Break Up

(The story will continue to start in Luke's point of view unless said otherwise)

"Ugggh," Michael groans, slouching further into the couch.

"Mike, stop it, that's the third groan of the minute." Calum says, tapping his pencil against the table over and over.

"I can't," Mikey whines. "Max has been gone for like a week now and my little heart can't take it."

"Your little other thing can't take it either." Ashton murmurs and Calum laughs.

"Mostly my heart though." Michael chuckles. He looks over at me, probably because of my creepy staring blankly at a wall. "Are you hungover, Luke?"

"What?" I ask. "Why?"

"You just have that look." He shrugs. "Are you okay?"

"That'd be an overstatement." I whisper.

"Is it Riley?" Ashton asks. I just nod, putting no effort into controlling my neck as I tip my head back and then down. "Didn't you just Skype with her last night?"

"For exactly two minutes." I grumble. "Then she had to go, and oh, everyone already knows why."

"Cole?" Michael asks hesitantly. I give him a thumbs up. "Soo then you went to a bar? For the fourth time this week?"

"I guess, yeah." I shrug.

"Mate, you've got to get it together." Calum says quietly. "She's just a girl, she'll give you more attention when she has time-"

"And what if she never has time?" I ask. "I don't even feel like I have a relationship with her anymore. Or like I'm being cheated on in the most visible way ever."

"You think she's cheating on you?" Ashton raises his eyebrows. "I figured she'd be to shy to even try that."

"I mean, she's confident now I just- No, I'm just being dramatic." I shake my head, "I'm okay. We're okay. Calum's probably right."

A couple minutes pass, full of silence as if we're mourning a death, and then Ashton speaks up. "Does anyone have a song to show us yet?" We all shake our heads, and Ashton rolls his eyes.

"Then should we keep working on Invisible?" Michael asks.

"Sure." Ashton nods. Should I even suggest my song? It's personal, probably the most personal song I've written. I don't know if I should give it to the whole world. "So, we've got the chorus already, should we maybe-"

"I have a song." I murmur.

"You do?" Michael raises his eyebrows. I usually write with other people, it's not normal for me to write an entire song myself. I nod.

"Let's hear it." Calum says. I take the crumbled, beat up paper from my pocket. "Oh." I hear him whisper.

"What happened?" Michael asks, trying not to laugh over it.

"I got frustrated." I say quietly.

"It's fine, he's okay, just sing." Ashton smiles.

I take a deep breath and grab my guitar from the wall. "Replay the scene over again, before the credits rolling in, inside my head. I don't recall a single word, you hit me faster than I heard, inside my head. And now I'm shaking, wearing thin, I always wonder where you've been, tell me if you wanted it at all." I forget I'm singing for them, while little flashbacks spin around in my head like a soap opera scene.

"I love you so much." She mumbles. More butterflies.

"Aw, I love you too."

I look up at Calum, his eyes starting to water. I didn't even know Calum could cry. "An epilogue before we're done, a sequel to what we've begun, I'm hanging by a thread and now before our hope is lost my heart is here, it's such a cause, tell me if you wanted it at all."

"I want you to be my girlfriend? But I mean. I know you don't want to be.. Famous."

"We'll figure something out, Luke, I love you."

"Draw me, beside you where I'll be, to remind you, we're still first in line for the front row of last resorts. One last ditch, a new beginning, so take this heart, put yourself in it this surprise ending I'm depending on- I got a long-term plan with short-term fixes, and a wasted heart that just eclipses and I push my luck from trust to dust enough that's the story of another us. One last ditch, a new beginning, so take this heart, put yourself in it. This surprise ending I'm depending on, could be the story of another us. The story of another us. The story of another us. The story of another us. Could be the story of another us." I sing. I open my wet eyes a little bit to a picture of Michael crying, Calum crying, and Ashton sitting there in shock.

"Are you guys going to break up?" Ashton whispers. Once he says it, I feel it, which brings me to burst out in tears along with Mike and Calum.

"I know it's one of our songs and it sounds stupid but we're as close as fucking strangers right now." I sob. "It's only getting worse, and my- my drinking is only getting worse and I can't stop I just don't know what I'm supposed to do I love her so much I don't want her to-"

"Luke, Luke," Ashton says calmly. Calum tries wiping away his tears, but Michael just cries more. "Talk to her. Before you do something stupid, talk to her." I nod, and quickly hurry out and into my bedroom.

Ashton's POV

I grab the paper Luke wrote the lyrics on carefully, and look it over. I'm confused. There are no lyrics on this paper. Just a somewhat well drawing of Luke, with a bunch of scribbles around his head, with him in a position that shows he's trying to contain them, and Riley with her hand on his chin, smiling so he'll smile back. The part her hand is touching is where the scribbles are erased, but over that extremely powerful drawing, is a big, scribble-y X over it. Oh god. I haven't even- I forgot he- Shit.

I slowly walk to his room, where he's sitting on his bed and rocking back in forth, in the position he is on the drawing.

"Luke." I whisper. "Is your mental health.. Okay? I know before Riley you almost... You weren't doing well." I say gently. He just cries, and shakes his head.

"I can't feel anything good." He says into his knees. "She was my good, and now she's slipping through my fingers and I.. I'm so messed up about it." He looks up at me, "Is it me? Am I just being possessive and clingy?"

"It's not you. She barely.. She barely talks to you anymore." I just look at him. I haven't seen him so bad in two years. I think he mentioned he was depressed to Riley a couple times, but it's most likely he never actually told her how bad it got. "I'll come back in a few hours." I say, and walk to the hallway.

I take a picture of the drawing, and text it to Riley. 'Luke drew this & probably didn't mean for me to see it. you seriously need to talk to him and quit avoiding him so he can get it together and not hurt himself again'

Riley's POV

I lye on my bed, tapping my fingers on the blankets.

"Riley when are you going to move out?" Jason rolls his eyes, leaning on my door frame.

"As soon as you do, bucko." I sigh, sitting up.

"And where's your friend? Shouldn't he be here while you emo it up in there?"

"Cole's with his family for the next week, I told you that." I say, annoyance growing in my voice.

"Um, no, I mean your boyfriend. Luke. I haven't heard any gushing about him lately." He pauses. "Did you break up?"

"No! God, don't even suggest that, that would be awful." I shake my head. "Why do you even care?"

"You just haven't looked very happy lately, okay? I know you can't have your phone for too long because of what happened, but Luke makes you happy. I just thought he could visit. I don't know sis, believe it or not, I may not be all gushy all the time but I actually like you." He huffs, and walks away, shutting my door.

Notes

sO WHAT DID RILEY DO TO LOSE HER PHONE THO?

I can tell you right now it wasn't just because she was being rude to her mum, real shit happened.

Also, is this story still good? I feel like it maybe isn't as great anymore and I'm trying to keep it great.

also also, did the title throw you off :) xD
