Icing on the Cake

After arriving back home, I dreaded walking in because I knew Calum would be mad at me and I really didn’t feel like fighting with him.

As I walked in, I was immediately hammered with Calum’s questions.

“Why did you do it, Luke?” He asked. “Why did you go see her?”

“Because I wanted to.” I said. “Because I had to.”

“You didn’t have to go see her.” Calum said. “Didn’t you think she would just mess with your head like she did all those years?”

“You just don’t get it.” I said.

“What don’t I get?” He wasn't really angry, just upset, confused, and hurt.

“I had to look her in the eyes and as her why. What did I ever do to her to make her hate me so much that she did everything in her power, putting all of her energy every day for five years into making us miserable.”

Calum was silent for a moment. “Did you get an answer?”

“Yeah. I did. And it’s really simple. Money. It was all for money. Market us as a straight boy band. That’s what sells, you know.”

“Root of all evil.” Calum added.

“Speaking of money.” I said. “My parents are continuing to ask me for money for my mother’s chemotherapy.”

“Are you going to pay for it?” Calum said.

“That’s sort of our decision, not just mine.” I said. “Our finances are intertwined.”

“It don’t care about that.” Calum said. “I’ll support either decision you make.”

“What would you do?” I asked. “It’s obvious they don’t accept me or are even very sorry, but…it’s my mom.”

“I would…probably pay for it.” Calum said.
