Icing on the Cake

I walked into the restaurant with an excessive amount of anxiety. I decided not to bring Calum with me. It wouldn’t have ended well.

I walked over to the table, and saw my brothers sitting down with my parents. I hadn’t seen my parents in years.

“Hello Luke.” I saw my mother say. She looked like she had aged more than five years, and she looked tired, but she wasn’t bald and didn’t look too bad.

I wanted to confront her right away. Even though I knew that wouldn’t be the best decision, I decided to be brutal right away.

“Are you sure I’m allowed to sit next to you?” I asked my mom. “You know, after you kicked me out and let me for good as dead when I was sixteen.”

“I’m sorry about that Luke.” I heard her say, but her voice was weak. “That’s not something I should have done.”

All the bad emotions came rushing back to me. “Why did it take you five years to realize it? How could you have done that to me?” As soon as I started calling her out, I couldn’t stop. “You, both of you Mom and Dad, you left me, you kicked me out. I was sixteen, I was scared, I was alone. What was I supposed to do? Did you even care if I had a place to go? Did you even care if I lived or died?”

“Luke,” Jack said while touching my hand to get me to stop talking.

“They didn’t kick you out!” I said. “You don’t know what it’s like! Why did you even want to see me?”

“Luke,” Dad said. “Your mother starts chemotherapy next week. And it’s expensive, so I was wondering if we could get some help-“

“Un-fucking-believable.” I snapped. “I go and make something out of myself after you abandon me and now you want money. All you want is my money.” I stood up ready to storm out. “I am done.”

Notes

A little announcement, only three more chapters until the 50th. And in the 50th, there will be a MAJOR development announced. It's huge. The story had been building to this development for over half the story. It's huge. I know I said that already, but it is. Chapter 50.
