Icing on the Cake
Chapter Twenty-Five
~25~
“Why?” I shot back. This felt a little bit like a stranger offering us candy to get in their van.
“I’ve been seeing several different videos on the Internet in the last few hours about what appears to be misconduct and discrimination towards you two students and I would like to do a story on you two. Would you be willing to be interviewed for the six o’clock news tonight?”
Calum and I looked at each other. “Let me talk to my parents about this quick.”
After talking to his parents, Calum was on board. So was I. Basically all she did was ask us a few questions about what the principal told us, about the video we made, and what we thought about it going viral.
“Thank you, boys.” She said to us after interviewing us by the school. “This will be on the six o’clock news tonight. Make sure to tune in!”
Calum and I started walking back. I got a text from Ben.
I’ll pick you up at Calum’s at 6:30.
I texted back, knowing I would be able to watch the six o’clock news since it was only a half hour broadcast.
Perfect.
I looked at Calum. “Do you think we just made a huge mistake?”
“Of course not!” Calum said. “We need to fight back. Maybe there will be enough social pressure to make the school let us go to prom.”
“Maybe.” I said, skeptical. “So you have no regrets over what we just did?”
“Well,” Calum said, “I regret not asking for that fro-yo she promised.”
