Icing on the Cake
Chapter One Hundred and Fifty-Five

“Why do you think Megan was there?” Calum asked the next morning after I came down to be with him.
“I don’t know.” I responded.
“Do you think she…had something to do with this?” Calum asked.
I cringed at the thought of that. “Sadly, I wouldn’t put it past her.”
“What…happened after I was shot?” He asked.
“The guy that shot you was shot in the head, by a security guard.” I answered. “Immediately. You fell to the ground and blood was pouring out of you. I grabbed the flag and wrapped it around you. It was only a few seconds before there were people around you.”
“I barely remember anything.” Calum confessed. “I just remember the intense pain, but then nothing.”
I felt like both of us were about to get emotional.
“Hello.” Julia said to us as she walked down the stairs with the twins. They both ran and jumped up on the couch.
We were with the children for a minute before I looked at the time.
“It’s time to get ready for your physical therapy.” I said to Calum. “I can go start the car so it cools down a little for you before we leave.”
“I can go by myself.” Calum said. “I’ll take a cab.”
“Don’t be ridiculous.” I said. “Why wouldn’t I take you?”
“Luke.” Calum said to me seriously, with almost a hint of warning anger. “I need to be independent. Let me go.”
My heart, Oof.
