Icing on the Cake

I turned around to see Mimi, looking angry, standing with a guy in our grade, Brett. He was at least seven feet tall and a muscular football player. And they looked pissed.

Fear and panic washed over me. I tried not to show it, though.

“Is this your boyfriend, Mimi?” I asked. “You got over being dumped quickly.”

I turned around and walked away, and tried to walk quickly. A big hand slammed on my shoulder, causing pain to shoot through me.

“You’re not going anywhere, fag.” Brett snapped at me.

“What do you want?” I asked.

“You stole Calum from me, you fag!” Mimi said. “He dumped me to shove his dick up your ass at prom!”

I made a connection in my head that I was going to use on them. “Mimi, you only went with Calum so that you could dump him, right? You were always going to go with Brett? But Calum asked you and you said yes just so you could dump him, and now you’re pissed because he dumped you first.”

“You’re going to hell, faggot.” Brett said and then punched me in the face.

The shock didn’t hit me and I didn’t realize what happened until after a second after it did. I realized I was on the ground and there was blood coming out of my nose. The entire right side of my face ached, and the pain was so unbearable that tears were coming out of my eyes. I then realized my right eye was half swollen shut. I heard the two of them walking away, laughing.

I just laid on the ground for minute, too shaken and embarrassed to get up. I then realized how humiliated I was over what just happened.

I was temporarily planning on just laying on the ground. Then I realized that there would be people around, gasping at what happened. I got up and everyone was staring at me. A few people walked up to console me, but I just walked away, looking down. As I was out of the school vicinity, I started crying some more.
