Icing on the Cake

~1~ (LUKE’S POV)

After walking into the high school where I went, I immediately started panicking. I always panicked when I was alone and my friends weren’t around. I soon breathed a sigh of relief when I saw them across the hall.

Ashton, Michael and Calum had been my best friends since elementary school. We had stayed banded together through all these years, through thick and thin.

We told each other everything, mostly.

I was feeling like a bit of an outcast that semester, because I only had two classes with any of them. Luckily we all had lunch together, though.

Once we were all sitting down at lunch and chatting about various subjects, one of the biggest bitches in the school walked by.

“Oh look, the four faggots.” She snickered as she walked by.

Ashton always chimed up to defend us, because he could always think of a comeback. “The only girls we wouldn’t be interested in is you!”

I was starting to fear that I wasn’t interested in any girls at all. Worst of all, I was starting to fear that I liked someone…Calum.

Calum and I had always had a special relationship. We had always been friends, even closer than we had been with the other two, for a while. We used to “play” after school all the time in elementary school. We were such typical boys, too. We would always play monster trucks. Literally, monster trucks. That was our thing. And hot wheels, too.

That’s why it was so confusing when I started to think I could be gay. If I was gay, then my choice of toy as a child should’ve been a Barbie, right?

I had no one to talk to about this. I couldn’t talk to my parents, they were homophobic. I couldn’t talk to my friends, I was afraid of how they’d react. And I couldn’t talk to Calum…I was starting to fall in love with him.
