•Chapter 004
•Niall’s POV•
As we stood in the quiet, small office, Jana took my hand and squeezed it tight, leaning her head against my bicep. ‘’I’m nervous.’’ She mumbles, releasing a heavy sigh as she gave my hand a tighter grip. ‘’I know baby girl, I am too, but it’s going to be worth it.’’ I assure her with a kiss pressed against the side of her head. ‘’I know.’’ She softly says.
My heart skipped a beat as the door on the other side of the room opened and Amy – the foster parent at the home (who’ve we been in contact with and already spoken to a few minutes ago) – came into the room with someone hiding behind her back, but I knew who it was.
‘’Come on sweetheart, don’t be afraid of them.’’ Amy says as she turns around and kneels down to the little boy. I caught a glimpse of his face, just as beautiful as the pictures we’ve received over the few months we’ve been eagerly waiting to finalize all the paperwork and such.
“Are they.. gonna leave me.. here?’’ I heard his sweet voice ask her nervously. ‘’No honey, I promise you that you are going home this time okay. They going to love you, and you’re going to love them I promise, they’re amazing people and they are so ready to take you home with them.’’ She assures him with a kiss on the forehead.
‘’But the.. the others brought.. brought me back.. they.. and so will they.’’ He tells her with a frown. ‘’I promise you.. that we love you so much already.’’ I spoke aloud, shocking myself lightly. Jana squeezed my hand tight before I released it, making my way over to the little angel in the corner of the room.
‘’Really?’’ He asks me as I kneel down beside Amy, hoping to help the situation some. ‘’Of course we love you, that’s why we’re here.’’ I say with a light smile as he stares into my eyes. ‘’Jacob, darling, I assure you that Mr. Niall and Ms. Jana love you so much, they’re going to be amazing parents to you.’’ Amy says, a smile across her face.
‘’Jacob, I heard you want lots of brothers and sisters.’’ Jana spoke from behind me. I look over my shoulder to see her walking over to us. He looks up at her and nods lightly. She leans over, pressing her hands into her knees as she smiles lightly at him, ‘’Well I bet you couldn’t guess how many you’ll have with us.’’ Jana grins lightly as she cuts her eyes at me for a second.
‘’Five?’’ He asks, holding up five fingers. ‘’Nope.’’ I smirk gently, knowing how much he wants a big family. We received a little book thing they let the children do so you will know what they are interested in before you legally get them. And lets just say Jacob will fit in very, very, very well with our kids. He loves toys, animals, and food – he’s definitely my kind of my boy.
“You have four brothers and five sisters.’’ Jana informs him with a smile. His big brown eyes light up, a smile on his pretty face, ‘’Really! That’s so many!’’ He says happily, shocked by the numbers, but hey.. aren’t we are?
“Yep, and you’ll have your own room and we have a big swimming pool and a tree house and-‘’ ‘’Do you have pets?’’ He cuts me off with a smile as he turns to face me, stepping away from Amy. ‘’Jacob, don’t interrupt.’’ Amy says sternly. ‘’He’s fine.’’ I say, glancing over to see her roll her eyes. I honestly feel sorry for these kids, this woman isn’t the kindest in the world.
‘’Yeah, we have four dogs and a cat.’’ I tell him. ‘’I love kitties.’’ Jacob says softly. ‘’Well our cat is fat and fluffy and loves to cuddle.’’ Jana adds in. ‘’And our big dog, Toby, he loves to play. He plays tag and hide and seek with us, you’re going to love him.’’ I say, trying to get him warmed up a tad – obviously it won’t be much but enough, just trying to tell him the basics.
‘’Can I call you.. you Mommy and.. and.. Daddy?’’ Jacob asks, his eyebrows lightly furrowed as he glanced between me and Jana. ‘’Of course sweetie.’’ Jana says as she rests her hand on my shoulder. ‘’Can we.. will you take me.. to your.. house?’’ He asks me.
I gulp gently, maybe this will be harder for him to get used to things being labeled as ‘his’ and not just ‘your’. Hopefully he will know it’s all his, too. ‘’Well yeah babe, but it’s your house, too.’’ I take his hand and I squeeze it a little. He gives me a grip back and steps in front of me, still holding my hand.
‘’I’ve never had a Mommy before..’’ He whispers to me, darting his eyes up to Jana a few times. We knew his background pretty well – his mother died at birth, he was a miracle baby, wasn’t supposed to live really long, and his father tried to take care of him but he didn’t have any family support and couldn’t do it on his own, so he gave Jacob up.
In my opinion that’s just horrible, I mean you can’t give your child away only because you don’t want to watch him. You have to at least try. I mean, yeah, it might be hard but still. It’s your baby, you should want to love him. But Jacob can remember his father, but never refers to him as ‘Dad’ as we were told, only ‘that man’.
‘’Well she’s a very good mommy, I promise.’’ I whisper back with a smile. He smiled again at me, showing me his dimples, what a cutie. ‘’She’s pretty. I know why you love her.’’ He softly says. ‘’Yeah, she’s pretty isn’t she? She’s the best Mommy in the world.’’ I assure him in a light voice.
I was ready to get this little man home, I can’t wait to introduce everyone to him. Hopefully it will all go well, hopefully that is.
With Talya things were so different, she was so little and everyone took her in well and they were younger too. I hope to God that everyone will love Jacob and accept him, I love him so much already I know for sure. Talya and Jacob are our only adopted kids, and Jana and I are the legal guardians of Melanie and have been for a few months thankfully.
But there’s just this worry I have that things will crumble, I hope it’s just a thought and not a reality.
MEMPHIS
•Harry’s POV•
Honestly I was losing my mind, handling all of Niall and Jana’s kids are like working at a zoo. But I think even the animals at the zoo are more civil than the all the damn Tarzans I have to deal with. I love them though, I guess that’s why I’m around all the time.
‘’When will Mommy and Daddy be home with our baby?’’ Tiffany asks me curiously as she sits down on the couch beside me. ‘’Well, babe, he’s not a baby. He’s four.’’ I remind her yet again today. ‘’Oh.. but when?’’ She says, wanting to know her main question.
I sigh, trying to remember when they’ll return from Los Angeles. It pops in my head, ‘’Tomorrow night.’’ I tell her and she just groans, such a grump sometimes. “Hey, Tiff? Everyone’s looking for you outside.’’ I heard Tori’s voice say. I look over from the couch and see her and Selena entering the living room from the kitchen doors.
Without a word, Tiffany jumps up and runs to the kitchen to go out the back doors. Apparently she was anxious about the demand for her out there. ‘’Hey.’’ Tori sighs as she sits down beside me. ‘’Hey.’’ I reply, looking over to see her with her hands in her lap, messing with her fingernails.
‘’Go on.. ask him.’’ Selena says as she takes a seat on the couch to the left of Tori and I. ‘’Ask me what?’’ I say with question, probably something simple that she’s nervous about, but yet it could be something important. ‘’Do you think.. Mom and.. and Dad.. are adopting again.. to.. to. Um.. I can’t, sel. I can’t.. ask him this.’’ Tori stops midway, looking over at Selena with a doubtful expression.
My eyes roam over to Selena’s position on the couch to find her staring at me, releasing a sigh lightly to herself. ‘’What is it?’’ I ask her, knowing she’ll tell me – she’s truthful about some things.. “Well,’’ Selena starts off, ‘’Tori has herself convinced that Niall and Jana are adopting again to replace her, because she’ll be moving back in with Cody soon.’’ Sel admits Tori’s fear to me.
‘’Tori, love, you know that isn’t true.’’ A deep sigh comes from my parted lips as I look over at her beside me, clenching her jaw as she stares at the coffee table. “I guess I’ve always been.. unwanted by.. by everyone.’’ She mumbles with gritted teeth.
‘’No baby, you aren’t unwanted.’’ Selena says as she stands and comes over to us, sitting down on the other side of Tori. “Then explain my real father, he left Mom because he didn’t want me. He loved her, but he didn’t love me.’’ The words hurt my heart as I heard her voice speak them.
The truth hurts, but it isn’t supposed to hurt a bystander so much. I didn’t know very much about him, all I knew was exactly what Tori just said aloud.
‘’From the very first second I met you, Tori, I have loved you so much. You are like a little sister to me, and I know you love me too babe. I hate that you’re feeling this way, and I can completely understand where you’re coming from.. but your parents love you so much – more than you’ll ever know. Everyone in this house loves you, don’t doubt it.’’ Selena tells her, trying to assure of this.
“Exactly, and I love you too baby. Hay Hay’s loved you since day one.’’ I give her a small smile, but she just shrugs her shoulders. I wasn’t sure what she was thinking, but I know she had her heart set on the thought of her being unloved, unwanted. Even though she’s certainly not.
‘’That’s not what she wants to hear.’’ A voice spoke from behind us, it startled me a little. Selena and I turned at the same time to find someone we’d never expect to say something like that. That person usually isn’t so into talking about depressing stuff. So why now?
He knows.. that’s why.
