Always on My Mind

Imagine for a moment the most beautiful day of your life. You’re in a big open room, soft, sweet romantic music is playing in the background and everyone that you love dearest in this world is surrounding you. But best of all is the man currently holding your hand, fingers laced with your own, proudly leading you out to the dance floor.

Your newly wedded husband.

It’s the happiest day of your life so far. You just got married to the man of your dreams. As he holds your hand high above your head and twirls you around, showing you off for the world to see, you can’t help but smile and laugh. He finally wraps his arm around your waist and pulls you close to his chest, his long thick fingers resting just at the curve of your lower back. Setting your hand on his chest, you look up into his bright blue eyes. They are filled with all the love he has for you and your breath catches in your chest for the umpteenth time today. You always thought Niall was handsome, but today he is sailing past it straight towards devastatingly beautiful. His blonde hair soft and begging for you to run your fingers through it. His simple fitted tux has had your mouth watering all day.

His other hand grabs yours and he laces his fingers with it. He brings your joined hands to his lips and presses a soft kiss to them, then leans forward and touches his forehead to yours. He gazes into your eyes, a smile dancing on his lips as a familiar melody begins to play.
His voice is soft, filled with emotion, his accent a tad thicker than normal. “It’s our song, sunshine. Dance with me?”

You nod your head, not trusting yourself to speak at this very moment as the sweet voice of Van Morrison fills the room. You think back to the first time you and Niall listened to this song together.

He’d been away on tour for a few months and was back for only a short break. The two of you had hardly left his bed, let alone the house. Both of you wanting nothing more than to live and breathe each other until it was time for him to leave again. His phone had been on shuffle playing random songs all afternoon when this song came on. You remember Niall’s head popping up from the pillow as the music started. He turned to you and asked, “Do you know this song?”

You had laughed, “Doesn’t everyone know this song? Van Morrison. Crazy Love.” (listen to song for full effect)

He’d rolled over and pulled you to his chest and kissed you softly before saying, “This is my song for you. That’s why it’s on here because it makes me think of you.”

You smiled into his kiss and felt every ounce of love for him fill your heart. That was the moment you knew that you were going to marry this man and spend the rest of your life with him.

Now here you are in his arms, swaying back and forth with your cheek pressed to his chest. Niall is the man you were meant to be with. He makes you smile and laugh when you are feeling down. He makes each day better than the last. You can’t believe that you get to spend forever with him. You can hear his voice rumble softly in his chest.

He’s singing to you.

You lift your head, eyes locking with his, a bright smile fresh on your face.

His voice is soft and you know only you can hear him as he sings to you the song that already means so much to the both of you.

She’s got a fine sense of humor when I’m feeling low down

He takes your hand and suddenly twirls you away from his body before pulling you tightly back to his chest.

He holds your hand over his heart, dancing with you, taking you slowly around the room, never breaking eye contact. You can see the love he has for you written on every feature. So much love that your heart feels overwhelmed.
He keeps singing. Only to you.

His voice melodic and soft and one of your favorite sounds in the entire world. He spins you around once more and holds you close again.

You can hear your friends and family making small noises of appreciation, but you have eyes only for him. He looks seriously at you, his eyes filling with emotion. He rests his forehead to yours and he sings the last lines.

When the final chorus ends and the last notes float through the air, silence descends over the room. Niall is still holding you close, but he’s no longer swaying. His voice is barely a whisper when he speaks.

“I love you more than anything I’ve ever loved in this world and I’m going to keep loving you forever. I hope you know that, sunshine.”

You smile as a happy tear rolls down your cheek. Niall’s thumb swipes it away softly and he kisses you. Then, unexpectedly, he dips you backwards, his lips still attached to yours, and the crowd erupts in cheers.

This is the first day of the rest of your life and you wouldn’t have it any other way.
