Tattoos
Unintentional.
LIAM'S POV
"Why are you shaking?" Riley asked me while I was driving.
"Shaking? I-I'm not shaking." I lied, I was nervous as hell.
Riley grabbed my hand and gave me a reassuring smile, "My family aren't rude people, I promise you'll love them. Just beware, my sister Lauren is a little opinionated, but she's great."
I nodded and lightly smiled. I've never had a real girlfriend before, it was weird. Riley and I went on dates and moved in together and now I'm meeting her family, it's just different.
The only thing is, when I first met her, I was head over heels for her. I was so in love, I didn't even take time to know what kind of person Riley was. Now that I know her, and it may sound cruel, I just don't really love her.
I love her as a person, but not anyone I could have a future with. We have nothing in common, she's actually bossy and expects me to do everything for her. But since I'm new to all of this, I have no idea how you break up with a person you live with.
"Okay take a left." She said.
Taking a left turn, I saw the large house she was telling about all day today. Riley grew up in a rich family with loving parents and a wonderful sister, or so she told me. She had the perfect life, and then there's me.
I parked the car on the street, I wasn't just nervous about meeting her family, I was actually going to break up with her tonight. Meeting her family today was completely unplanned.
"Oh I'm so excited!" She chirped and grabbed my hand and led me toward the large house.
I plastered a fake smile on my face and just let her lead the way. Once we were at the door, she knocked three times and soon after, a girl who looked a bit like Riley opened the door. She grinned when she saw us.
"Lauren!" Riley screeched and hugged her sister.
Lauren looked at me and rolled her eyes, "You must me Liam," She laughed, "Riley knows I hate hugs but she hugs me anyway."
I awkwardly laughed, "Yeah, she loves hugs."
Lauren nodded and held out her hand, "I'm Lauren."
I shook her hand, but the second our hands touched, it felt like a bolt of electricity went through the my arm. Lauren pulled her arm away and jumped a little, so did I. We both looked at eachother with wide eyes.
"Did you..?" I asked, hesitantly.
"Yeah." She mumbled, "I only felt that with..." She grabbed my wrist and flipped it up revealing my tattoo. "No, it can't be."
"What?" Riley asked, "What's going on?"
Lauren let go of my arm and revealed her tattoo, the initials saying L.P. I looked at my wrist again, L.R.
"I-I don't understand." I said while shaking my head, "But Lyn, was my soulmate."
"Lucas was mine. Lucas Peterson." She was just as clueless as I was.
That's when I wanted to take a hammer and hit myself in the face with it. How could I have not put the pieces together, Lyn was her nickname, Adlyn was her name. Fucking great, Liam.
"What's your name?" She asked me.
"Liam Payne, and you're Lauren Rowan." Riley's last name was Rowan and I only heard about her sister today, what a small world it was.
Lauren shook her head, "How can this be? Did the government make a mistake?"
"Wait," Riley exchanged glances between the two of us, "So you two are, soulmate's?"
"How far away is the nearest Capitol Building?" I questioned, looking at Riley.
"Only ten minutes." She pursed her lips, "Let's go."
I don't think I've been in any worse awkward situation in my entire life. I was sitting in the driver's seat with my girlfriend who loves me, and her sister in the back who might be my soulmate because the government made a mistake.
The drive was the worst because this car's radio is broken, so music wasn't an option to break the tense atmosphere. The second I killed the engine, everyone got out of the car and headed toward the large building.
We passed by the people waiting in line to get their initials and walked to the front where the guards were waiting. One of them stopped us.
"Can I help you?" He asked.
"The government made a mistake, this is my soulmate," I pointed to Lauren, "But I was given the wrong name."
The guard's eyes went big, "That's impossible, we've never made a mistake!"
"First time for everything. Now who do we see?" Lauren snapped, obviously frustrated with the situation.
The guard flicked his head toward the main enterance, "Go in and say Andrew sent for you. He's the man who sets up everyone."
I nodded and the three of us walked past the guard and inside. After telling countless people that Andrew sent for us, they lead us to his office.
Once we were there, we looked up at large gold metal doors that went all the way up to the ceiling. I opened the door, and saw a man sitting at a desk, he was on the phone and waved us all over.
"I have to go," He was American, "Bye."
"Andrew?" Lauren asked, he nodded, "Great. Want to explain how the fuck I have two soulmate's? And one of them is dead."
He stood up and rubbed his temples, "It's no ones fault but mine. Liam's soulmate, was Lyn Reacher, but her first name was Adlyn. Whenever she was asked to give a name, she never used her first name."
"So how did I get into this?" Lauren was asking all the right questions.
Andrew sighed, "Your soulmate, Lucas, was supposed to be paired up with Lyn. You two were supposed to be paired up, I must've gotten the files mixed up or something. I sincerely apologize for all of this."
The only thing that I was curious about, was how this Andrew guy didn't even know who I was. But at the same time, I was thankful for his stupidity.
Lauren clicked her tounge and had a pissed off expression on her face. "So," She started, "Because of your mistake, I married the wrong man and cried over the wrong man when he died?"
"Y-Yes." Andrew stammered, "I'm so sorry. What can I do to make it up to all of you?"
Riley spoke up, "I think you owe these more then a lame apology, Andrew." For once, she said something that didn't piss me off.
"I know. How about guaranteed home, food and money for life? For the two of you I mean that's the least I can do." He was sweaty now.
I nodded, "Sounds good to me," I looked at Lauren, "What do you think?"
"I mean, I guess." She sighed, "Alright."
"So I guess that's it, then." Riley said while laughing a little, "This will be a great story to tell."
I nodded, "Yes, it will be."
"Well take care of my sister, yeah?" She asked.
I smiled, "Yeah." I gave Riley a hug since kissing her would be inappropriate, and I didn't want to.
I faced Lauren, who I guess is my soulmate. "So, I guess we're soulmate's." God, this was awkward.
She laughed, "No shit. How about we get some coffee tomorrow and just go over the basics? I mean, if you want."
"Sure." I gave her my number and we said our goodbyes, what a story that is.
ED'S POV
*a month later*
"Babe!" I called out from the kitchen.
Emma poked her head out from the hallway, "Yes?"
"You know we have to leave in ten minutes. I really want you to meet these guys, they're great." I smiled knowing that it would take longer then ten minutes for her to get ready.
"Yes, I know. How did you meet this Louis guy anyway?" She asked walking back into the bathroom.
I sighed, "If only you knew," I mumbled, "We went to high school together!" I called.
"That's so nice, meeting up with old friends." She walked out of the bathroom a few minutes later looking as beautiful as ever.
"You look stunning." I kissed her forehead and grabbed my keys, "Let's go. Louis hates it when I'm late."
"And he has a girlfriend, right?" She asked, "I don't want to be stuck with just to two." She joked.
"Yes, Claire. She's the best, but you're better." I assured and we both walked to my car.
Once we were inside the car, I drove off, eager to finally see Claire and Louis. It's been too long, almost three months. I missed Claire's sass and Louis', well, Louis.
It took twenty minutes to drive to the restaurant, but once we were there, we got out and ignored the line of waiting people.
"Reservation for Tomlinson." I said to the worker.
The worker nodded, "Right this way, sir."
He lead past several table and booths. Once I saw Louis and Claire sitting there, a smile etched across my face. Louis stood up and gave me a hug, "It's been too long, lad." He said.
"I know, it has." I faced Claire, "How are you, love?" I kissed her on the cheek and she gave me a hug.
"Hi Ed. Oh, and this must be Emma." She smiled, "I like your tattoos." She said.
Emma grinned, "I think we'll get along very well."
The girls hit it off and began to talk about random stuff, leaving Louis and I to finally catch up. "So what's new?" He asked me.
"Well Emma and I are getting pretty serious." I honestly answered, "You?"
Louis grinned, "Claire's pregnant."
"What! Congrats, how far along?"
"A little over two months, isn't that fantastic?" It was obvious he was very excited about the idea.
I nodded, "It is, I'm so happy for you two. So, do you plan on getting even more serious then that?"
"You mean marriage?" He whispered, "Evenutally, yes."
