Beneath The Lies
War (Chapter 1)
“Sargent Styles you know what to do, the war is getting out of hand and by the time we know it, the enemies will reach our homeland,” Major Steve informed me. “Gather each man from every family in every part of every town there is in England. One extra man means one step closer to gaining the peace for England.”
“Yes Sir,” I replied. He was right, the war is outrageous and it is just getting worse as we speak. The world is falling apart, war are happening everywhere all over the world and there is nothing we can do to stop it but just simply defend our country.
The Chinese, North Korean and Russians are holding allies which is a huge disadvantage for the rest of the world because not only they have the wealth and the army but also the latest technologies. That includes the nuclear bomb.
The Americans, Australia and our neighbouring countries joined force with us but then there are some that stabbed our back and join the enemy. It is hard to keep up with everything; Japanese are invading pretty much all the South East Asia like they did so in World War II.
I don’t know exactly how this war got started. I was too young when it all happened but I know well enough that it was due to money that leads to the destruction of this world. Money can buy everything, anything and solves everything, they told me once.
But growing up in a time like this, in a time of danger made me realize that money can’t buy everything and money is not the solution to every problem. In fact money ruined us, ruined mankind; it made us selfish and greedy.
I’ve always hated violence and war ever since I was small but I didn’t manage to escape my nightmares. I mean look at where I am now, a Sergeant leading men to war, leading them to face their fate. The one thing I dread to become, yet here I am contradicting every possible emotions I uphold against war.
I couldn’t escape it even if I wanted to, fighting for the country was part of my blood line and I have to take the responsibility for the family honor. I can’t let my ancestors down and I had to sustain the pride in the family’s name. I know for sure, in this life I have to live under the orders of others and be a puppet to my life choices.
“Liam, contact the other bases all around England to inform them about the news from Major Steve,” I ordered. I hate to treat people like they are lower than I am even though they are my best mates.
The only good thing I see from becoming who I am now is the fact that I am doing this for my country.
