Shopping (Chapter 9)
(Bai’s P.O.V)
“Why do you wear glasses instead of contact lenses?” Harry asked me once we reached the mall to buy new glasses for me. “I prefer glasses because I don’t need to put as much effort in to wearing one,” I told him truthfully. “I never thought in a million years that you would say that,” he chuckled. “What? What do you mean by that?” I glared at him.
“Well….you are a nerd and all…..I didn’t expect you to be lazy,” he grinned. “Pssst…..just because I don’t want to wear contact lenses…..you are calling me lazy?” I raised my eyebrow. “Yeah….I am calling you lazy,” he laughed. “In all honesty though….you do look a lot better without your glasses,” he complimented. “Since when do you care about what looks good on me and what doesn’t?” I asked curiously.
I know he is just giving me tip on my fashion sense or something, but just because he said I look better without glasses doesn’t mean I am going to start wearing one every day. “I honestly don’t but if you ever wanted to get any boy attention….you better start wearing context,” he winked at me and I just glared at him in return. “Why do you think I want anyone to notice me? I think I’ve already been notice enough without wanting to,” I muttered.
It was true, at first it was only Harry and then Finn. I don’t mind Finn; I mean he is really nice and funny. Since Harry notice my existence, other people start to notice me too, for example, getting beat up in the toilet and I hate the fact that, out of all the people in our school Harry was the first one to notice me.
“Bai….I’m really sorry for being unpleasant to you since you’ve been here,” he apologized again. He has been apologising a lot lately. It might be his broken record. “Harry….I’ve already told you I forgive you alright,” I sighed. “By the way I was joking about the glasses thing alright…..you can wear whatever you want because you look good in anything…..even with a granny glasses,” he gave me that childish suck up smile.
“Harry….just because you suck up to me doesn’t mean I can’t tell that you are lying,” I chuckled. “I am not joking….I mean every word,” he winked which made me laugh louder because I know he is lying. I mean he used to call me four eyes because of my glasses.
“Yeah as if I will ever believe anything that comes out of your mouth,” I said. “Hey…..I am trust worthy,” he whined and at this moment in time, he actually looks a lot younger than his actual age. I wonder if any of Harry’s friends have seen him like this. Like I said before, he apologized a lot and let’s not forgets the playful side of him.
“Yeah right…..so trust worthy that your mum had to let a stranger who she never met before do the supervising of your little sisters birthday while she was away for a couple of hours,” I point out and every single word is true. “Hey….um…,” he started but stopped himself because he knows I was right.
“It’s o.k. Styles….I know I am right,” I playfully winked at him which made his jaws dropped, like literally. “You better close your mouth or you might catch a fly,” I pushed his chin back up to close his mouth. I have no idea where all this confidence is from. I mean I’ve never winked at a guy before. Heck…..I’ve barely talk to any guy and for some reason, when I am near Harry, I am a completely different person. It may be because I am starting to consider Harry as a friend?
“Wow…you’ve definitely come out of your shell,” he chuckled after I snapped him out of his surprising expression. In all honesty, I haven’t really come out of my shell….I am still a shy person, but this attitude is something I’ve never experienced before.
“I like this side of you,” he told me with a smirk. “What side of me? There is no this side of me…..what are you talking about?” I rambled. “Oh don’t try play coy with me Baiiiiii,” he laughed while exaggerating my name.
“Aww you guys are cute…..are you looking at buying anything for your wife sir?” a kind female from the register asked with a smile on her face. She is around her early fifties and grey hairs are starting to show but it’s obvious that she has dyed it many times.
“Oh we….” Harry and I both started but the lady cut us off again. “Oh there is nothing to be shy about it……if I am not mistaken….you both are new to this and let me tell you a secret. I hope you both will treasure these memories forever and enjoy each other’s company as much as possible because you never know how long when it will reach it’s end point,” the older lady frown at her last sentence.
She must have lost her one and only lover. Is this why my dad never cares about us anymore because he lost my mother? Harry and I both decided to ignore about the statement that she made about us being husband and wife. That is something very strange to hear from a stranger.
“Could you help her to see which glasses are recommended for her eyes? At the moment she is wearing a contact lenses,” Harry asked politely. I guess he also pick up about the lady’s sad advice about love. “Oh course love….right this way.”
“Out of all the glasses, why this one?” I complained. I’ve never wore this type of glasses before because I think it is a little fancy for me. I normally wear the really big ones because I honestly think it suits me better. “Oh stop complaining Bai…..I think this one looks the best on you and I am starting to fancy girls with glasses,” he winked playfully.
I stick my toughed at him and as a result it only made him laugh. I know I am acting like a child at the moment and I can’t help but feel very happy. Since my childhood was taken away from me at such an early age, I can’t help but wonder what I’ve missed all those years. This is why I am never really normal.
“Oh you guys are adorable and looking at you two makes me happy,” the lady chuckled at our relationship. “By the way….your man has a good taste because he is right….this glasses does look amazing on you love,” she patted Harry on the back. My man? If only this lady knows how wrong she really is. I mean Harry is not ever close to my man….I don’t even know if he is my friend.

“Where are you going?” I questioned as Harry started to walk in the opposite direction from the exit door. “We haven’t done shopping yet,” he grinned cheekily. What is he talking about? We only came here to buy new glasses for me. “What? I thought we are done,” I groaned. “I’ve never met any girls that hate shopping as much as you do,” he smirked.
“Well I am not like the girls that you’ve been with obviously….come on lets go,” I whined. “No! Come on….I need to buy something,” he got hold of my hand and dragged me to where ever he wanted to go. “Victoria secrets? What the…..what do you need to buy in here? I thought they only sell women stuff,” I stated in surprise tone.
“Harry don’t tell me you need my help to buy something for your girlfriend because…..I am literally not the best person for advice when it comes to clothes,” I whispered in his ear as we walked through the entrance.
He is still holding my hand and if people didn’t know, they would think we are together. Heck….even I would think so too. As realization hit me, I tried to take my hand away from his but his grip only tightens.
“Harry….let go of my hand….people are staring,” I hissed. I could see people glaring at me, well the women who are in this shop. Harry is without a doubt handsome and I am assuming, people are surprise to see such a handsome person with a nerdy Asian girl holding each other’s hand.
“Let them stare.”
