Saving A Fallen Star (Book 1 in Saved series)

Chapter 23: Kaya's Story

Harry's P.O.V.
I felt a chill come over me. Slowly cracking my eyes open I saw the door was wide open. Yawning I stood up and walked toward the door, beginning to close the door I stopped when I heard someone crying. The voice was to high-pitched to be one of the lads so that left Cassy or Kaya. Selfishly I hoped it would be Cassy so I could leave her to cry in peace and I could go back to sleep. I peeked my head out the door I saw who was crying. It wasn't Cassy it was my dear Kaya. She wasn't even crying, no she was sobbing and rocking slowly back and forth. Seeing her upset shattered my heart to millions of pieces. I stepped out into the brisk night and walked over to her. "Kaya." I say softly. She looked up at me eyes so full of despair that I wanted to sit down next to her and sob with her. She then said between gasps,
"H-Hi H-Haz. D-Did I wake y-you? I-If so, I-I'm s-sorry."
"No Kaya. You didn't wake me up. Love, come here. Now tell me, what's wrong? Did I do something?"
She ran into my arms and cried on my shoulder. ‘Well that answers that question.' I thought. I swept her off her feet and got the strong sense of de-ja-vu. Carrying her sleeping form to my bunk, carrying her to the flat, carrying /running away from the pop, carrying her to the hospital bed, holding her and crying, running offstage with her in my arms. Had that much really happen in 3 days? Shaking my head I walked inside the flat keeping Kaya close to me. I sat down on the couch and held her tightly. I stroked her hair saying, “It was only a bad dream baby, it's alright, I'm here and I won't leave you." How did I know that? I don't know but she calmed down and held me fiercely. So fiercely in fact I felt her heart racing, matching mine perfectly. When she stopped crying I said, “That’s better." I dried her tear stained face with my thumb and said, “Now babe. Tell me what's made you so upset?"
She took a shuddering breath and began.
"Ever since I can remember I've been different. I wasn't like the other girls; I didn't play princess or tea party or anything like that. I raced. I ran against the fastest boys and girls and beat them every time. The boys despised me and girls ignored me. Being three I didn't understand why they hated me. Every year it got worse, the faster I got, the separation became insane. My only friend was my older sister Kristy. Even though she was way older than me, we were best friends. But all of that changed when I was 8. I almost never saw her and when I did she was always yelling at someone or something. It scared me a lot. I wondered if I had done something to offend or hurt her. Then when I was 10 she disappeared only leaving me with this note." She closed her eyes as if trying to remember what the note said then said,
"K,
I'm really sorry for not being there for you when you needed me. I'm sorry for scarring you (yes I knew about that.)
I feel terrible for leaving you but I have no other choice. Please don't try looking for me, you won't find me. I'm not coming back, ever. You are an amazing person who has great potential and a great personality. I know you'll make me proud. I love you very much Kaya. Please don't hate me for this but if you do I understand. Goodbye Kaya.
-Kris
I was in 4th grade then. I was torn between anger, sadness, and worry. How dare she leave me! Especially if she did know what I was going through. But I couldn't stay mad at her for long I forgave her a few weeks later. It's just how I am." Pausing for a minute or two, tears rolling down her cheeks. She wiped them away and continued."About a week after I forgave Kristy I met Cassy. Cassy was a great listener and completely sympathetic for me. We became best friends even though we were complete opposites. She has been completely loyal and has always stood up for me. My life was good for the next few years. I became an older sister to twin brothers. I finally made some friends on the track team and led the school to victory. Some people praised me and others were jealous." Taking a shuddering breath she put her head in her hands. I rubbed her back and she began once again.
"A few weeks after I turned 14 my life took a complete nosedive. My kind father died of a rare type of heart failure which hasn't been seen in a while. Oh papa....." Kaya began to cry again and I held her close, rocking slowly back and forth. Her story was swirling around in my head. How could someone endure so much pain and be so cheerful? And why did she keep this to herself? Kaya had calmed down now and continued,
"My mother scrambled to find work. She has to work 3-4 jobs a day, she even works nights. My grandparents didn't even bother to help. They hadn't bothered to come and visit me when my father was alive. My mom couldn't take care of my brother's. So I stayed home from school and raised them. Cassy brought me my schoolwork and helped me raise my brother's. My life was like this until they were in kindergarten. With them in school, I could go back to school. So I did go back and every day after picking up my brothers I ran on the track while Cassy watched them. Determined to get into college I timed myself and every week I got faster. I ran to escape reality and for pleasure. But I seem to be a bad luck magnet. I could care less though these trials make me strong, sort of I'll keep trying though, and never give up. As long you’re with me I'm perfectly happy." She whispered that last sentence and I barely heard it. Smiling at her fiery determination to be happy I pulled her into a gentle kiss. She smiled but I could tell she was still bothered. I wanted to know what else was bugging her. As if reading my thoughts she said,
"Haz. There is one other thing."
I looked deeply into her eyes and I could feel, almost see her pain. It came in powerful waves and it was heart-wrenching. I knew this look she was giving me. The look of a past love that went wrong and left the girl broken-hearted. I said,
"It was a boy, wasn't it? Did he...."
"Break my heart? Yes. Fool me into thinking he loved me? Yes. Do that? Thank goodness no."
"That....If.....He..... What was his name?" I stuttered furious. 'What type of self-absorbed jerk is this guy????!!!! Breaking girl's heart's, as a HOBBY!!!!?????!! Oh I swear if I meet this guy I'll.....' Kaya interrupted the thought.
"His name was Timothy. He was devilishly handsome, too charming, and an expert actor." She closed her eyes and shuttered. I held her close and said,
"Baby if you don't want to tell me you don't have to."
She shook her head and said "No. It's been concealed for too long." She told me all about Timothy, their past relationship, and the break up. When she finished she said, “Harry."
"Yes?"
"Don't leave me; don't break me like Timothy did."
"Kaya, I couldn't do that even I tried, which I won't ever do. Baby I would never hurt you."
"I know. I just needed to make sure." She then rested her head on my chest. I kissed the top of her head and rested my head on hers.
"I love you babe." I whispered into her ear.
"I love you too Hazza.”
