Shooting Star

Let Her Go

Alayna’s POV:
“I’ll come back for you.” Those words lingered on my skin and it sent electricity throughout my body. He leaned in closer and all I could do was close my eyes. Our lips touched and it felt like fireworks has exploded in my mouth; the passion between our lips was incredible.

“This is not real.” I pulled away and looked deeply into his green eyes. “What do you mean? This as real as it can get.” He smirked as he leaned in closer. I panicked and lost my control.

“You’re not real.” I kicked him on the shin and closed my eyes. “Ow!” I fluttered my eyes and tried to adjust to sudden change of lighting around me.

“What was that for?” I stood up as soon as I recognized whom the voice was coming from. “Where are we?” I tried to look around but everything was too bright.

“The library.” I focused on his face and it made it easier for my eyes to see. “Good morning.” His morning voice gave me chills. It was deeper than the usual and I’ve never felt so uncomfortable around him like this before. Did I really like it that much?

“Why are you here?” I backed up a few inches from where I was standing and almost fell. “Woah. Be careful there. No need to fall for me.” His joke made him chuckle and just like the first time he laughed, he got to me.

“I’m fine.” I pulled away from him and straightened my clothes. It seemed that I might have spent the whole night here and so did he. How did he find me here? Why is he here?

“I’m going.” I picked up my bag and hurriedly walked away. “Hey, wait. Wanna grab breakfast?” I was caught off guard by his question and I quickly turned to face him.

“Breakfast?” I tilted my head and purposely showed irritation on my face. “Yeah, breakfast. The meal you eat in the morning.” I turned and walked away. “I don’t have time for breakfast.” I walked faster than before and headed for the door.

“Everyone has time for breakfast.” He quickly caught up to me and grabbed me by my hand. “Let me go. Besides, I haven’t changed or washed my face yet.” I tried to make silly excuses and tried to pull my hand away from him.

“My flat isn’t too far away. I could lend you some clothes. I won’t take no for an answer. Besides, you owe me.” I stopped walking, or in this case tried to stop from being dragged.

“Owe you? For what?” He was still able to drag me even without any effort from me. The scenery felt familiar all of a sudden. It was just like the second time we talked, or maybe the first time we actually had an ongoing conversation. “For looking after you.”

Harry’s POV:
“What? If you stayed ‘cause you think you had to look after me, then you shouldn’t have.” I sighed; she was and always has been really stubborn. She protested every time I suggested on us doing something.

“I can’t take the chance.” I swallowed. That was all that I could say. “I can’t take the chance of letting you go again.” Those were the words that I was too afraid to say.

“We’re here. Are you okay?” I looked back at her and she looked unpleased as always. “Yeah, I don’t have a choice anyway, right?” I didn’t know what to say to her. Here I am again; forcing myself unto her just like I always did.

“The door’s wide open. I’m sorry I forced you to come.” She sighed and stood up and walked towards the door. “But Alayna, if you’re walking out that door since you’re afraid of the past, know that I’m not here to bring it back. I’m here to show you the future, and if friendship is what that future offers to both of us then I’ll gladly accept that fate.”

“What?” I turned around and faced her. “Why can’t we just be friends? You’re happy with Jared and I’m happy for you but I’m not just going to erase you in my life because of that. I like you, I like your presence; can’t I do that whilst being someone you could just lean on no matter what?”

She let go of her breath that she was holding in and sat back down. I don’t know what I did to convince her that fast or what I said to make her realize it was worth to try.

“Thank you.” I uttered those words with great relief. “Where’s my change of clothes?” I handed her a sweater, which looked a little big on her, but she gladly accepted it.

“Thanks.” She went to the washroom to change and I changed my attire as well. I looked at the mirror to look at my weary face. “I’m letting you go…for now.”
