Diana

Chapter 21

21
Recap (because its been forever)
Niall is on a plane, on his way back to tour, leaving Diana in the care of her Aunt, Uncle, and cousins. Diana was just in her house exploring it for the first time since the beginning of the story. Macey is waiting in the back yard while she thinks Diana explores the house. However, Diana has been taken by Marcus and is in the trunk of his car as her phone begins to ring.
Diana's P.O.V.
I recognized the ringtone as Niall's. It was pretty easy because he set it to himself saying, "You've gotta help me! I'm stuck inside your phone! Answer it to set me free!" It went on from there.
Dork, I thought as I twisted around to reach my back pocket. It was a lot harder than I'd anticipated. When I finally did get it, I'd missed his call and the car was stopped. Why hadn't I thought to call anyone sooner? I typed in my password and called Niall back, just before the trunk opened a crack.
"What was that?" Marcus asked, roughly.
I did my best to smother my phone and didn't reply.
"What was that?" Marcus asked again, bending over to peek through the gap.
I stashed the mobile in an old grocery bag and prayed it wouldn't be too loud.
Suddenly, Marcus threw the trunk fully open. The bright daylight blinded me as he yanked me out by the arm. My head smacked against the side of the trunk. I stumbled, tears filling my eyes as the pain soaked in.
Niall's P.O.V.
Why isn't Diana answering? I thought as I waited for her to pick up. I started to worry as it went to voicemail.
Hey, it's Niall... As you probably already know. Uh, I just got off my flight. Call me back as soon as you get a chonce. Love you! Bye!
I made my way out of the terminal to meet my security. As I did so, my phone rang. Immediately, I pulled it out of my pocket and sighed in relief at the caller ID: Diana.
"Hello?" I answered.
There was no response.
"Hey, Diana?" I tried again.
I was only greeted with white noise.
"Diana, are you there?" I said, getting worried. I paused and listened as closely as I could. I heard some voices in the background but I couldn't make out what they were saying. Then there was a distant thud as if two very solid objects had just collided. Then silence.
"Diana?"
Nothing.
I resumed walking to my security at a much faster pace, taking care to not hang up. When I got there, I was relieved to see Prescott.
"Pres!" I called to him. "Something's wrong. Diana didn't answer her phone and then she called me back but there was just white noise and then a bang!"
The smile instantly vanished from his face. "What?" he questioned, more in disbelief than wanting more information.
I nodded.
"You're sure it's not some sort of prank?"
"Positive. She wouldn't joke about this. She knows how worried I was about leaving her after all the media attention she was getting."
He gave me a blank stare. Absolutely unreadable.
I just stared back, unsure of what to do. Luckily, he took action.
"Do you still have her on the phone?" he asked.
"Yes," I tell him.
"Don't hang up."
"I know!" I say, losing my temper a bit. It's not like I'd never seen cop shows before. They'd be able to figure out exactly where her phone was using the cellphone towers.
Within 20 minutes Prescott and I were standing in a very official office. Well, at least that's what it looked like to me. Everyone was hurrying around in suits. Prescott was explaining exactly what had happened and why we were there, asking me for details from me every so often. They'd already asked for my phone which I'd handed over readily. It turns out that they can't find out the exact location of the other end, only within about half a mile. Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. I thought sarcastically.
"Why don't you call Macey," Prescott says, handing me his phone. "Maybe she'll pick up and tell you Diana dropped her phone so the microphone isn't working or something."
I take the phone, glad to have a distraction. I find Macey in his contacts and call. It only takes about two seconds for a frazzled voice to answer.
"Hello? Prescott? I can't find Neala! I heard the garage open but I didn't think about it and it's been half an hour now but she hasn't come out!" She said all in breath.
"What? It's Niall. Diana answered her phone but she isn't saying anything."
"I can't find her, Niall!" Macey said, hyperventilating. "She's not in the house."
"Mr. Horan, we have a location!" an officer called to me. "We're sending a unit from the nearest station to check it out."
I breathe a sigh of relief. "Macey, they found where her phone is!"
"WHERE?!" Macey practically screamed into the phone.
"Where?" I passed on in a calmer tone.
"About half an hour from Grant County, in a rural area."

I pass the information on to Macey along with the officer's instructions to stay inside the house and lock the doors. She isn't too happy about having to stay in but mumbles minimal complaints before allowing me to hang up.
