Romancing The Jungle

Flower. (7th Chapter)

…Back At the Ship…

..........................

Valerie's POV:
.........................

I am surrounded by an inner void; a void that is swallowing my joyfulness. A void that poaches my heart. A void that could only be gone when my dull eyes meet the wild beauty again. From the moment that I returned, all I could think of was him. How he smiled when he wore his first pair of undergarments. How he listens to me, yet he doesn’t understand a word coming out of my mouth. How he has the ability to speak to me, with a look from his emerald jewels.

Have I gone insane? Why am I so captivated by him? Could the reason be that I feel guilty in some sort? I swear I haven’t choked him on purpose. In fact, I wish I would have choked myself than him. For some unidentified reason, I see this wild beauty as an only flower in a bucket of thorns. Him, like this lonely flower, is surrounded by nature’s danger. Him, like the flower, is deserted and all alone. Him, like the beauty of the flower, is shining through the field of stinging thorns.

…At Night (During Dinner)…

“(He states lightly) Since you were seven, nothing would cheer you up more than a steaming plate of pasta. Your mother and I made sure that you’d have this meal, on your first day of school each grade. Even when she departed us, I kept this regime and prepared it for you each first day of your university. Darling, why is pasta not working this time? (He places his palm over mine) What is troubling my pretty girl?” I stop twirling the pasta strings with the fork, as I look up to my dad; allowing myself to release a deep sigh.

“Its nothing to worry about. (I change the topic instantly) Tell me something. Did you find anything interesting in your exploration today?” He smiles for some untold reason, as he nods excitedly. “You won’t believe it, Val. The crew and I found the remains of a wooden board. From what I could tell about the age of the wood, it equals to twenty-two years back. That’s only the age of the crashed wood. (He sighs sadly) However, Gerard and the rest discovered something awful…”

I stare at the sadness of my dad’s face, curiously begging him to proceed with my eyes. He huffs his breath and proceeds: “We found two skeletons belonging to a female and a male under the sand. Gerard’s expertise in the field of biology was able to help us determine some clues about them. (My eyes sadden as he continues) The man and women passed away from dehydration. Their ages are similar to mine at the moment. (His tone shifts to seriousness) However, the women’s body has not fully decayed, especially from her belly area and her reproductive organs. Gerard took a sample of her skin and ran a test to determine the reason, on his machine. He was able to indicate that this women suffered from an early birth, probably in the seventh month. (His tone shifts to suspicion) If this is true, where would this baby disappear? That’s the clue that is yet to be discovered tomorrow.”

My mind flashes the information that I just learned: a man and a women found dead. The women was pregnant and gave birth. The woman and man are the same age as my father… My eyes glow in shock as I take a sharp breath in; no it can’t be! The wild beauty is the baby!?
