A Month In Sin

06. Wedding Day

I knew things were going to get interesting the moment we walked through the door. Niall and Luke did good at hiding themselves, but our security team helped more than anything. They knew all about hiding, as they had to disguise us on many occasions.

Someone somewhere probably noticed, but right now, I didn’t care. There was a wedding we had to get rolling, and in three hours, Ori and I had to be dressed and looking decent.

The bride was in her t-shirt and sweats still, but her hair and makeup had been completed. Her bridesmaids had their hair and makeup done as well, and they were all trying to calm down a very frantic Claire.

At the sight of us, Claire nearly melted onto the floor.

“There you two are!” she squealed, and she shuffled over to throw her arms around us. “We’ve been worried sick! And it would look rather stupid for Andrew to have six groomsmen while I only had four bridesmaids.”

My eyebrows furrowed. “Not really.”

Claire rolled her eyes. “That’s because you think weddings in general are stupid. So, how’d everything go last night?”

Ori’s eyes grew wide, and she gestured back towards Niall and Luke. “They’re right here.”

Claire shrugged. “Yeah, well, they’re family now—at least for the time. They might as well get used to me, right?”

“How did you know that?” I asked, and one eyebrow raised in the direction of my crazy sister.

She snorted. “I was the one that helped Ori’s drunk ass get into the taxi.”

Out of the corner of my eyes, I could see Ori’s face growing very red in anger, but I simply rolled my eyes again. “You know, you could’ve stopped us. Would’ve saved her the headache.”

“Yeah, but what kind of sister would I be then?”

“A good one!” Ori exclaimed. She noticed people begin staring over in our direction, random people we didn’t actually know, so she immediately lowered her voice. “What made you think this was a good idea?”

“Well, you need to get laid,” Claire said, pointing towards Ori with raised eyebrows. “Apparently you need to get laid again because you are stiff as hell.”

“And me?”

“Well, you weren’t going on and on about how you had to get married, but you need something good in your life.”

A very loud sigh of relief sounded from somewhere behind us, and I knew our mother had arrived. With the crazy and rather frightening life we lived sometimes, I understood her anxiety, but sometimes, she took it overboard.

She didn’t even care about Niall and Luke for the moment. Instead, she wrapped her arms around Ori and me much tighter than I was ever going to be comfortable with. “If you’re going to lose your security, at least let us know where you are!”

“That kinda defeats the purpose, but . . . .” I managed to wiggle out of her grasps and sighed. “Mom? This is Luke and Niall. Long story short, we all drank a bit too much and ended up married. Figured you might wanna meet them at least.”

Mom took it far better than I thought she would. Dad . . . well, he was going to be a different story entirely, but Mom seemed normal.

“So you did break up with Chance after all.”

“Yes.”

Luke snorted. “Nearly broke my leg in the process.”

I turned back to him and glared. “I distinctly remember you saying something about me being good fortune?”

“Yes, but I’ve spent at least five hours with you, and I think I’ve changed my mind,” he said, but I could see the way he was smirking. When my eyes tightened, he only laughed. “On second thought, you just got a new phone, and I would rather not break that one as well.”

“You learn so quickly.”

“Well, as adorable as the two of you are, we’ve gotta get ready,” Claire said, before either of us could say anything more. “Ori, Eris? Come with me, darlings.”

Niall suddenly looked very uncomfortable. “Um . . . should we wait in the—?”

Mom cut Niall off when she grabbed each of them by the arm and turned away from us. “Come with me, boys. We’ll get you ready for this as quickly as we can.”

Niall didn’t seem to mind so much, but Luke sent me a very dark smirk. I couldn’t tell if it was real anger, or if it was just playful banter. It seemed to be playful, so I didn’t worry too much about it.

“You owe me.”

“I don’t owe you anything,” I said, and when I smirked right back at him, he seemed surprised. “Remember? I’m your mean old lady now, and I’m just here to make your life worse. See? I’m already doing such a fabulous job.”

And he just laughed about that.

The wedding went off without a hitch. It was far too spectacular for my liking, but I had never seen Claire look so happy.

Though I hadn’t really thought much about the two guys accompanying Ori and me, it was brought to my attention very quickly that Ori and I weren’t the only One Direction and 5 Seconds of Summer fans out there. I had always known that, but I was reminded of it when I heard squealing.

“OMG! Sarah, it’s Luke and Niall!”

“Look for Ashton and Zayn! They’re my faves!”

I hurried over to our table and sat next to Luke, placing one hand on his shoulder. “What do you say we get outta here?”

Luke’s eyebrows rose. “Can you even do that? You’re, like, important or something.”

I shook my head. “There are a couple of ten year old girls about to come over here asking you all kinds of questions. I’m pretty sure my sister would prefer we let the focus stay on her.”

Luke almost smiled as his eyes met mine. “Whatever you say, wife. I’m following your lead.”

Niall scoffed. “You two are idiots.”

His dismal attitude towards our newlywed state didn’t bring down my positive outlook on it all.
“Why? Because instead of pouting about what’s happened, we’ve embraced it and realized it’s not that big of a deal?”

Niall rolled his eyes. “That’s my point right there. It is a big deal, and you’re acting like it’s nothing.”

“I’m not gonna call it a mistake, and I’m not gonna act like it’s a problem,” I said. “Yeah, it’s a big deal in one sense, but it’s not that big of a deal that we should just sit around pouting, like you and Ori have done all day long. How does that fix anything?”

Niall didn’t have a response to that. Actually, what I said seemed to get through to him. Whereas he had been sulking before, now, he looked rather deep in thought.

I almost smiled. “I’ll be right back. I’m going to find my sister, and then we’ll get you both out of here.”

It was too easy to find her. She was where she was supposed to be. The bridesmaids and groomsmen had a table of their own, but the rest of the bridesmaids were too drunk and too annoying for my tastes. The groomsmen were all too busy trying to score with one of the bridesmaids for me to even waste my time.

Ori had a way of getting guys to leave her alone. I couldn’t do that quite like she could.

Then again, I couldn’t do most things like she could.
