Predestine

Prologue

July 24th 2015- 3 Years Earlier

Walking out of the corner shop with Amy and Kate, I felt so happy, we had just finished school and it was time for summer. The sun beamed down as we strolled down the pavement towards our homes, a cool breeze blowing over us and our uniforms, I ripped my tie off casually throwing it into my bag.

“What are you going to wear tonight Seffi?” Amy asked, tugging at my arm gently. It was Marcus Jones’ party tonight and Amy was getting worried, she had a huge crush on Marcus and stressed about every little detail, trying to make sure Kate or I didn’t upstage her.

“Probably just my black skinny jeans and that new top I showed you” I replied, and I saw Amy smirk at my choice, clearly planning a much better outfit in her head. “What are you wearing Kate?” I titled my head to look at her as she shrugged, I smiled despite my confusion. Kate always knew weeks in advance what she was wearing; she was the most organized one out of us.

My thoughts were interrupted by a loud groaning coming from the alley in front of us; I knew the girls had heard it too because of the strange looks we were giving each other. It began to get louder as we slowly walked closer; I stayed behind, hesitating slightly.

As we approached the entrance my breath hitched in my throat, a man lay sprawled out on the floor, face down and he wasn’t moving. Amy and I stayed put as Kate wandered into the alleyway and towards the man. I watched her carefully kneel beside him; she gave us a concerned look before looking back down.

“Sir” Kate said, her voice shaking worriedly. “Sir, are you okay?” She questioned. Taking her hand out of her pocket she delicately reached forward, placing her hand over his back, unsure what to do. “Sir” she repeated, quickly putting her hand on his back and giving the stranger a nudge.

A loud, inhumane noise escaped the man’s mouth as he swiftly pushed himself up off the concrete and pounced on top of Kate, she cried out for help as the man was on top of her. Amy ran over, attempting to pull the man off a now lifeless Kate. He roared in anger and jumped on top of Amy. I looked around for any form of weapon, spotting a metal pole beside some bins and rubbish. I jogged over and picked up the pole, gripping it firmly I charged towards the man. I swung the pole like a bat straight into his skull, smashing his head to pieces. Amy breathed harshly as I helped her up and pulled her into an embrace.

“Are you okay?” I said as tears ran down my face, the realization that I had just killed a man hitting me like a ton of bricks. Amy pulled away from our hug and her face was pure shock.

“I’m okay, but Kate isn’t” she whispered as I heard another groan. Spinning round I saw Kate standing there, her skin had quickly rotted and eyes had turned red. I unfroze from my position, grabbing Amy’s wrist and forcing her to run. We sprinted out the alley way and into the street, Kate only seconds behind us. My hand left Amy’s as she failed to keep up. I heard her screamed and looked over my shoulder, just in time to watch Kate devourer her best friends face. Tears began to stream down my face as I finally approached my front door, running inside my house I locked and bolted the door.

“Mum!” I screamed in fear, desperation laced in my voice. My mother, Carissa, walked into the room and her face turned sympathetic as she used her thumb to wipe my tears.

“What’s wrong sweetie?” she asked kindly, but my words fumbled, I couldn’t explain what was wrong, how could you ever explain what just happened? “You can tell me” my mother continued as she began to grow concerned at my silence. Everything flashed in my mind, the man; his head smashing; Kate changing; Amy dying. Everything made me weep, shocking my entire system repeatedly. My mother rubbed my back as I cried, mourning my friends and trying to comprehend what happened in order to explain.

My eyes burst open as I heard another loud groan; my legs forced me off the couch and towards my father’s baseball bat. My mother stared at me in confusion, she must have thought I was going mad, but so did I. The groaning became clearer and fear struck through me as I realized it was coming from the kitchen. This time my mother heard it too, “it’s just your father dear” she tried to explain as a half decomposed version of my father stumbled into the living room, dripping with blood.

Notes

This is my idea for a new Fic, hope you guys like it! I am going to finish Notorious first and then start working on Predestine, but I have been planning this for a while! Also what do you think of the cover art? I am extremely proud of it :)
