Everything I Didn't Say

Long Way Home

“Hey, Ais.” I walked towards her and half smiled. “Hey there, Mr. Grumpy.” She chuckled a bit after teasing me then handed me a ball. “I wasn’t grumpy. I was just letting you guys have fun ‘cause once you see my skill, you’ll all whimper.” I teased as I took the ball.

The night went half decent. I was still affected by how Calum was acting. I finally admitted to myself that I do like Aislinn but then Amber had to point out something so obvious that I was too blind to see.

“Bye Iris! Bye Mike!” She yelled enthusiastically and waved goodbye as they both got down from the car while I nodded my head at them when they looked back.

“Where now, grumpy head?” She giggled at her own joke and drove off. “Woah! Slow down, speed racer. It’s a nice night, why don’t we just enjoy the drive?” I smirked at her and she just rolled her eyes then pressed lightly on the brakes.

“Happy?” She looked at me then smiled. She took her phone right after making sure no car was around. “Hey! Stop that!” I grabbed her phone out of her hands and she responded with a pout.

“You never told me why you were so persistent in going out last Wednesday?” She faced me with confusion drawn on her face. “Wednesday?” She faced the road again as she thought hard what happened last Wednesday.

“The one where you showed up at school, asked me to eat out…you know the day where I had to literally push you out of MY school.” I raised my eyebrows and just stared at her. She was so beautiful even when it was only her eyes I can clearly see.

“Ahhh. That day!” She nodded and smiled as if she finally remembered a long lost memory. “So? Mind telling me what was bothering you? And don’t pull the ‘nothing is wrong’ BS that you always try to pull. Was it Calum?” I looked away from her as I said his name.

She sighed as a sign of defeat. “Was I that obvious? Ugh! I hate the fact that you know me that much.” Her tone changed from being playful to being despondent. “You okay? You know I told you that you can tell me anything.” I looked out the window and noticed how far off we were from my house.

“But Luke, I feel bad how all I rant about is Calum. You really don’t want to hear this one.” She took a sharp left and fiddled with the steering wheel. I stared at her while she drives aimlessly with a worried look on her face.

“Talk. Now!” She parked immediately and looked at me. “Luke, I---” I held my hand up and stopped her from arguing. I raised my eyebrows prompting her to start explaining what I wanted her to explain.

“Calum, well, uhmm, you know that we fought, right?” I nodded and looked back straight to her eyes. “I dunno…Luke, we’ve been doing well; Calum and I, I mean. I thought that I don’t care much about him anymore but then we fought about something so immature and stupid and he retaliated back by throwing shade at me in Twitter which made me hate him even more. And then, two days after he texted me apologizing for what had happened.”

I just kept staring at her, baffled at what she just said. “Hold on, he apologized?!” She was taken aback by how surprised I was. “Yeah, and somehow all my hate is all gone. Luke, do I like him again?!” She cupped her face with her hands and exhaled out of frustration.

Yes, Ais. You just don’t like him. You love him and you know what? I hate that you do ‘cause I want you to love me instead.” I looked down as I finished my thoughts. I must have not looked up in a long time as I felt the car move again; silence filling the car.

“We’re here.” She finally spoke, finally breaking the silence. She parked the car on our driveway and I turned to face her. I realized it must have been rude that I didn’t say anything when she poured her heart out. She was quiet and was just waiting for me to go down.

“Ais, I’m s---” I was cut off by her vibrating phone that I was still holding. “Who is it?” She finally spoke and immediately looked at my hands. I looked at the phone and saw that it was a text message. “It’s a text.” I clicked on the message to see whom it was from. “Hey, do you want to go out?
