Everything I Didn't Say

Game Over

“And?” I sat up straight and held my breath in as I waited for her answer. “I laughed at it first. Wouldn’t you?” She tucked her left side of her hair behind her left ear while her right side of the face was still covered by her hair.

“Uhm, doubt anyone would ask me out soon.” I tried to laugh the situation off to hide my anxiety. My voice shook a bit and I bit my lip right after. “Dumbass. I meant…you know what I mean. It’s Calum; he’s never serious about anything so I laughed first and told him to stop messing with me.” She stood up then laid on her belly.

“And? Did he? Tell me he did or I’ll punch the guy.” I made my fist into a ball and showed a tough face and it made her laugh. “Wow, since when did you get tough?” She fixed her hair again and just blew the little ones out her face.

“Just tie your hair, Ais.” Her fixing her hair was getting noticeable and I knew that this was a habit of hers when she thinks hard. “Nah, I’m good.” The other side of her hair fell one more time and she just bowed her head and gave up.

“Mhm, sure you’re good.” I rolled my eyes and laughed a bit. I wanted to stall, as I really didn’t want to hear anything about Calum. He can’t be dead serious, right? Last time I asked, he had no intentions at all about asking Aislinn out.

“Oh, man. You know, I’m bidding on this set of comics on eBay right now.” I tried to sound excited. I wanted to distract her. If this was going where I think it’s going then I really don’t want to hear anything about it.

“Really? You’re such a nerd.” She rolled her eyes and laughed. “Are you gonna buy another issue of that comic with the Flash in it and that monkey he fights?” She used her hands to explain it as if she knew what she was exactly talking about.

“Really? There’s a monkey? Tell me more.” I teased her a bit and she just stared at me, thinking of what more she can add to that statement she just said. “It’s a gorilla, you idiot. It’s Gorilla Grodd.” She just rolled her eyes as a response to my nerdy correction.

“I know, don’t say it. I’m a nerd and I’m proud of it.” I raised my right hand as if I was pledging to the nerd allegiance. “Oh my goodness. Is it too late to back out from being your friend now?” Friend: that word hit me harder than what I expected.

“I’m so sorry! Did I insult you?” Her tone changed; she was biting her lip and she was now sat up straight. “Huh?” I must have zoned out pretty long to make her worry like this.

Damn, Luke! Get your shit together!” I scolded myself in my mind. I punched my thigh as a punishment and smiled as if nothing happened. “No! I’m just trying to play with you.” I chuckled with long pauses in between.

“Are you sure you’re okay?” She was still just staring at me and I knew I wasn’t fooling anyone. “Yeah. Don’t worry. Anyways, we got off topic. Want to explain everything again about Calum?” I honestly didn’t want to hear anything about this but I didn’t want to confess right now either.

“Ohh, yeah. Sorry, I got distracted with your monkey business. Get it?” She giggled at her own joke and I laughed with her. “He’s a gorilla.” I blandly said then I reminded myself to smile.

“I’m sorry. Your gorilla business then. Anyways, I’m getting distracted again. So I laughed and we just kinda went off topic and played League instead. We played about two games.” She looked up as she tried to recall every detail that happened. Right now, it seems as if nothing really happened but I know life has a sick way of getting to the punch line.

“Just two games? Wow. That’s not a lot for him.” I tried to react as normal as I can to hide everything that’s going in my head. “Yeah, I know. He said after our second game that he was done for the day. And this is where things got weird.” I just nodded as she finished her sentence.

Great. This is it. Prepare to die. Game over, Lucas.” I sighed as I finished my thoughts and quickly glanced at her again. “So I thought he would hang up as we said our goodbyes but he still hung around after that. He told stories about his day and sometimes he would just stop and go on the Internet. There were a lot of silences here and there and although it felt odd, it wasn’t awkward.” She was right: he was being weird. He was the type of guy to hang up even before you’ve said your goodbye.

“And then?” I wanted her to get to the point. Are they going out or not?! “And then, I asked him if he still wanted to play ‘cause if not then I’m going. Then he just exited out of his browser and went back to our Skype call.” This is agony. Is she trying to kill me?!

“And was that it? So was it just a jo—” Before I can even finish, she held her hand up and cleared her throat. “So, uhh, you still haven’t answered my question. I’m not joking. Do you want to go out?” She talked in a lower tone to imitate Calum’s voice and cleared her throat once again after she finished.

“That’s what he said and I tell you, he never looked more serious in his life.” I raised my eyebrows to ask her what she said right after. “Well, you know I can never say no to any of you guys. So yes, I did say yes. We’re going out tomorrow.”

Notes

Hi guys! Sorry for the lack of updates. Been busy recently. Hope you do like this new chapter.

Also, do note that League in the story means League of Legends. Yes, the game that Michael just played yesterday. And yes, I play it too so I know things about it and do prepare for references from it. Thanks guys! :)
