Everything I Didn't Say

“Hello? Aislinn? Did I wake you up? I-I’m so sorry. I was just wondering if you got my text.” It was Calum and he sounded tense. I didn’t know what to do and I didn’t want to wake up Aislinn either.

“Beeeeeep.” I slapped my forehead at the stupidity I just did. A beep?! Was he stupid enough to fall for that?! “Ohh, okay. Uhm, I was just wondering if you’ve read my text. I know it is late but I—I don’t know…sorry to disturb you. Kay, bye.” He quickly hung up and I sighed.

“Was he really serious?” I asked, louder than I should have. Aislinn grunted and adjusted herself as she was slipping down from my shoulder. I speedily dialed my brother, Kane’s phone.

“What?” He answered his phone after two rings and spoke with a disgruntled tone. “Open the door.” I ordered sternly and he cursed under his breath thinking I wouldn’t hear him.

After about two minutes, our front door opened and my not-so-happy brother met me. “You can’t open the door on your own?” He rolled his eyes and opened the door wider when he saw Aislinn sleeping soundly on our patio.

“I didn’t know you guys sleep together now.” He sarcastically commented. “Shut up, Kane. Just help me.” I moved back and let Aislinn fall on my other arm then picked her legs up with my other arm.

“Not a word to mom or dad.” He waved his hands to gesture that he understood. “You know they’ll see her car outside, you idiot.” I tilted my head towards the patio to order Kane to go get her bag.

“Can you check her bag for her keys?” He sighed and followed. My parents wouldn’t mind much that she slept over here but I just don’t want them to find out the situations that led to this.

“So, what do you want me to do?” He held on the bag and waved the keys around. “Just put it there. I’ll just tuck Ais into bed.” He put down the said items down the sofa and I went down the basement where my room was.

I kicked the door of my bedroom and it bounced back causing Aislinn to flinch from the sound. “Oops.” I looked at her immediately but thankfully, she was still fast asleep. She looked so peaceful and I was happy that I’m the one sharing this moment with her.

I laid her on my bed and tucked her in under my blanket. She quickly repositioned herself to a fetal position and hugged the pillow beside her. I chuckled as quietly as I can; she was beyond cute.

“You’re in too deep, huh?” I quickly snapped my head towards where Kane’s voice came from. He was already standing by my door, which overlooks my bed and was just staring at both Aislinn and me.

“Go away.” I threw a pillow and he dodged it right away. “Hey!” His voice got a bit louder than it should be so I had to shush him.

“Luke, I’m just saying, if you like her, then go tell her. You obviously have something…going on.” He tilted his head as he was processing what he was saying. Although Kane is a part of the group, he doesn’t hang with us much as he thinks it is weird to hang around his older brother.

“As if. Stop pulling things out of your ass, Kane.” I stood up and made my way towards my room’s door. I smacked Kane’s head as I was passing him. “Ow. What was that for?!” He rubbed his head and punched my arm.

“I told you to shut up. You might wake her up. Now, c’mon. Help me move her car.” He followed me up the steps and we made our way to the front door as quietly as we can as we might wake our parents up as well.

“We’re not going to push the car, are we?” I rolled my eyes at the stupidity of that question. “Yes, Kane ‘cause it’s too much work to back it up the driveway and park it near the sidewalk.” Kane wasn’t really the best at picking up sarcastic comments so I just held the key up so he knows what I was talking about.

We got in the car and quickly backed it out of our driveway so it wouldn’t be blocking my mom’s car in the morning. It was a quick chore to do and we were in our house in no time. Before Kane went up the stairs up to his room, he tapped me on the back. “Luke, just go for her.”
