Chapter 38

Addie’s POV

I wake up, and I don’t know if last night was a dream or not. But I remember it as clear as day. I remember texting and calling Lucy until she finally picked up and I told her everything, and she produced some curse words, aimed at me mostly, but after that, she spent the next hour convincing me of this lame, cliche way of getting Cal’s attention. I said I would do it. And it took me hours to get up the courage and by the time I did, it was 1am. I tried calling him, and promised myself if he doesn’t pick up I’ll throw the damn rocks at his windows. “Time to show the world that gender roles is just a social construct, and girls can do everything boys can!” Lucy said over the phone, which made me laugh.
So when he didn’t pick up, I put on a hoodie, and my rainboots and went outside. There is a faint light coming from his room. I got some small rocks from the ground and threw one. But it wen’t in. I realised his window is opened, and if he is sleeping, he won’t wake up by the knock on the window. He’ll just see rocks in his room in the morning. I quickly go back to my room and write on a piece of paper ‘I want to talk to you. PS: this would be only cool if you were awake. Otherwise it’s lame lol’ Might as well make him laugh in the morning, if he isn’t asleep already.
And then he actually popped his head through the window, looking confused and in no time he was standing in front of me and my hoodie was already wet. So I said all the things I wanted to say, even more that what I planned and I don’t know how it happened, but it’s like we read each other minds, and we reached for the other and then…we were kissing.
That memory alone makes me smile like an idiot. I can recall the softness of his lips and the urgency of that first kiss, as if we’ve starved ourselves for so long.
I reluctantly get out of bed and shower. It stopped raining outside, but it’s still looks cloudy and cold, so I put on jeans and a oversized hoodie and look at myself in the mirror. Cal said we’re doing this. So I should look like less of a hobo. I change my hoodie, and put on a cute t-shirt and a cardigan over it.
When I go to the door to put on my rainboots and my windbreaker, Aggie comes in through the front door holding a couple of letters, and a cardboard box.
“This is for you” She hands the box to me and goes to the kitchen to leave the letters.
I look at the box and I already know what it is without opening. The Bed Bugs. That was a pretty fast delivery, we literally ordered them a week ago.
I put the box in my room, and when I go out, my backpack on my shoulders, I see Aggie by the door, umbrella in hand.
“Hey” I say. “Are you okay?” I ask her. She hasn’t been looking like herself the past week. She’s been looking more like…well…me. I know, I know, we’re identical twins, but it was different before. We had the same face but that was it. Now she had my I’m-shy-and-wanna-go-home attitude that I sometimes get, and she was wearing clothes that were not making a statement, which was also very me. “You haven’t been yourself lately”
She shrugs, making herself busy with her bag.
“Aggie” I say and she looks at me “You know you can catch a ride with us anytime? And you can have lunch with us as well? I’ve noticed you’re not having it with Marissa anymore…”
“I don’t need that” She says, looking at the floor “I don’t need your pity Addie. I’m fine”
“It’s not pity.” I say firmly “It’s something you should’ve done for me. Because even though I haven’t completely forgiven you for being an asshole, I still don’t want you to feel this way. Because I now it too well, and how much it sucks”
She looks at me, hear eyes teary, and she nods. And then, she just walks up to me, and gives me a tight hug.
“You got all the good genes” She whispers to me, and laughs. I am stunned. Not by her hug or whatever, but by that thought. I always thought it was the opposite. And I always thought she thought it was the opposite.
When we get out, and I lock up, Cal is by his car. He is wearing ripped jeans, and his leather jacket. I suddenly get shy. How do I say hi? Do I hug him? Do I kiss him? WHAT DO I DO?! How do people do this thing? It’s nerve wrecking.
“Hey” He says, and hugs me.
“Hi” I manage to say.
He gives Aggie a small wave and walks to the other side of the car. When all of us are in, and strapped in, we drive off. I keep sneaking glances at Cal, and I am fighting a smile.
But then one thought comes to me, and I suddenly feel like I’m dreading school - how do we act in school? Do we kiss? Do we hold hands, or walk with his arm around my shoulders? I mean Mikey has done that plenty of times, but it never felt weird. This will feel weird. I don’t know if Calum is thinking the same things, or if he just senses that something is up, but he reaches across and gives my hand a small squeeze, as reassurance that everything is fine, and then he parks the car.
We leave it and the three of us walk to the entrance, his hand sometimes on the small of my back, leading me through the crowds.
“I’ll see you at lunch” He then says, when it’s time to separate, and gives my hand another squeeze before he walks in another direction.
“So you’re not dating, huh?” Aggie says. I completely forgot she was walking alongside us.
“It happened last night” I say, whispering. She raises her eyebrows in surprise, but not exactly the bad kind. “Yeah.” I nod and look away
“Well…” She sighs “If he dares to break your heart, he’ll have to deal with me” She winks at me and then walks away. There’s the Aggie I grew up with.
That morning is really slow, and all I want to do is hang out with Calum and talk to Calum, and I think about Calum on all of my classes. I texted Lucy last night, telling her what happened in short, and she just texted exclamation marks this morning, but I haven’t seen her. I haven’t told any of the others because I think Calum will want to, also because I think Calum already did, because when Luke sees me in the hallway he gives me a knowing smile.
“What’s up Addie” He winks at me, and then moves along, without waiting for my answer. When the hell did he manage to tell them?
At lunch, I get dragged away by Lucy, who waits for me outside my classroom.
“I need to know everything before we go eat” She says, dragging me further down the hall, which is emptying. We sit on a bench on the top floor of the school, and talk. I keep my voice down, but I don’t spare the details. She applauds me for my improvisation and gives herself all the credit for the idea.
We join the boys outside, all of them playing it cool. Lucy purposefully seats next to Mikey, so I have to seat next to Cal.
“Good of you to show your faces” Luke jokes.
I feel really awkward suddenly. How do act around Calum with everyone around now?
“Any announcements, Addie?” Luke talks again, and Mikey sniggers. I blush, and I don’t want to look at Calum. Lucy elbows Luke and he moves away a bit, still laughing.
“Okay!” I say “Yes me and Cal kinda…kissed last night. And we’re kinda dating-“
“Kinda?” Calum cuts me off, obviously joking and I elbow him, the same way Lucy did. He laughs.
“Now that that’s out of the way” I say, and clear my throat “Let’s get on to more important matters.” I take a small pause and then continue “The bed bugs came this morning”
“No shit! That was some fast delivery right there!” Mikey says, and the whole awkwardness goes away.
“So now we just need a plan, right?” Lucy says, excited.
I see Aggie across from me, and she is looking a bit lost. I wave her over and she gives me a thankful smile.
“Aggie’s joining us for lunch, by the way” I announce, and they all look confused, but no one has time to object in time. I make space next to me for Aggie, which means i have to kind of sit a lot closer to Calum, the outside of our thighs touching slightly.
“Hey” She says, sitting down. She has a coffee cup.
Silence falls, because everyone is unsure if we should continue talking about the bed bugs in front of her. She notices the sudden silence, and looks down.
I start talking about classes, and include Aggie, and everyone takes my lead. We get through lunch and then it’s time for classes, which I haven’t been looking forward to.
Cal gives me a quick kiss on the cheek and then he walks off with Luke and Mikey. Aggie, Lucy and I climb the stairs.
“I don’t have to sit with you guys. I mean I know you want to be a good sister, but I noticed how all of your friends went quiet” Aggie says to both Lucy and I.
“They’re just awkward and weird” Lucy jumps in, before I have to. “You’ll get used to it. Also, we were used to seeing you sit with the enemy, it’s kind of unusual for them. I mean, we don’t know your allegiance and how much we can say without it leaving the table”
I laugh, because it sounds ridiculous, but Aggie looks like she’s considering what Lucy is saying.
“Well, I can promise nothing will, and I’m no longer friends with Marissa” Aggie says, but she says it quietly and looks around before she does.
“Does she know that?” I ask.
“I think she is getting the hint. It’s awkward to go to someone and be like ‘Hey I don’t want to be friends with you anymore. Bye’, you know?” She looks down “I’m just waiting for her to confront me, but I don’t want to get into a big fight.”
“If it get physical, count me in” Lucy says, gives her a little tap on the shoulder and then walks away to her classroom.
“You shouldn’t be scared of that. Just talk to her and all will be well” I say and give her an encouraging smile before i go as well.
After school, Calum waits for me by his car, and I don’t see Mikey, or Luke or Lucy or anyone.
“Where is everyone?” I ask and he just shrugs. “Ready to take me hooome?” I wiggle with my eyebrows, which makes him laugh.
“Get in, Benson”
“Oooohh, you’re calling me by my last name? Is this a new thing? Do I call you Hood?” I fake excitement, as I get into his car, and he just laughs.
When we’re in he leans in and quickly gives me a peck. I blush against my own will.
“So, I’m guessing no PDA?” He asks, as he is backing out. I look at him a bit scared. “If it was up to me, I wouldn’t mind.” He clarifies. “But you seemed kind of…nervous this morning, and then at lunch as well”
“Yeah. I’m just…I don’t want people staring, and people will stare because people are rude and stare at you when you are showing affection to each other” I say, probably talking really fast, but my brain is going faster “And I wouldn’t mind it as well, if people didn’t stare, but having Marissa in our school, and her group of friends, I really don’t think it’s going to be healthy, for her, to be staring at us, especially now that she wants you back, and we got together the very next day-“
“Addie, slow down” he laughs. “It’s fine. Don’t worry about it” He gives me his best smile, and then looks back at the road, but his hand travels to mine and we just hold hands in his car.
He parks it in his driveway, and looks at me.
“So we never got to hang out the other day” He says, turning off the engine, but not making a move to get out of the car.
“Yeah, because you blew me off” I say, and i can see worry in his eyes “Kiddiiiinnggg!” I poke him in the shoulder and laugh “Wow, I have the ‘You blew me off that one time for your ex-girlfriend’ card. Sweet!” I laugh to myself and he does too.
“Getting back on topic” He clears his throat dramatically “Do you want to hang out?”
“As a date?” I smile.
“No.” And I look at him super confused “Our first date will not be lying around your house. I’m taking you out next week, and it’ll be even more romantic than throwing pebbles in my room”
“Your window should’ve been closeed!!!” I playfully hit him on the arm, but he catches my hand, and doesn’t let go.
“So?” He awaits for my answer.
“A non-date it is” I nod, and he pulls me in for a kiss. I don’t believe how natural this seems. How easy it is to be with him in this way.
I go home, and he comes after 10 minutes, dressed in sweats and a t-shirt. I changed as well in leggings and a big hoodie. We move to the kitchen and start making lunch, when Aggie comes in.
“Hey! Do you want food?” I call out to her. She looks at us, in our kitchen making food and is confused for a second, but then seems to accept it.
“I’m good” She says. “I’ll be in my room”
“It’s not a date!” I call after her, and i hear Calum let out a small laugh. “You can come join us”
She comes back after a couple of minutes, and sits on one of the counters. We’re making pasta, and Calum is making some sour cream sauce. It’s suppose to be good. I’ll be the judge of that.
“So…you guys are dating?” She asks, dangling her legs. I look at Cal and he gives me an encouraging nod.
“Yep” I say, and I can’t help but smile. Aggie nods. “You okay?”
“Yeah” She says, and then glances at Calum, then back down.
“You sure?” She looks pretty down, but lately she’s been down all the time, so I don’t really know if there’s a specific problem.
“Umm…Marissa kinda cornered me after school.” She says reluctantly, and I notice Calum’s shoulders get tense.
“What happened?” I ask nonchalantly.
“She was asking why I was MIA and why I sat with you guys at lunch” She shrugs, still not looking at me.
“And?” I encourage her to go on.
“Andddd, I told her that I didn’t like the way she treated me, or talked about you, or Lucy, and I wanted to keep my distance for a while. And that I didn’t want to have a big fight about it, so I just been dropping hints about it.” She pauses “But she was really cool about it.” Aggie then looks from Calum to me “She actually apologised and said that she understands what I mean and that was kinda it. It was weird.”
I look stunned and over to Calum, but he doesn’t look at me.
“It is weird.” I say thinking hard, but then I decide it’s not worth thinink about it. “Whatever. You having pasta?”
“Nah. I have to study for a test tomorrow. I’ll eat later.” She then hops off and starts walking towards the stairs, when she stops and turns around “Thanks for listening. And…thanks for this morning” She gives me a smile, and then walks off.
I join where Calum is stirring the pasta, and lean on the counter.
“You know Marissa better than us” I say “Was it sincere? What she said to Aggie, I mean.”
“I think so” He says and then turns around “I think she’s trying to change, however late that might be” He puts his hands in his pockets.
“You serious?” I ask taking a step back, confused if he’s joking or not.
“Yeah” He looks down, and then runs a hand through his hair “I mean, when I talked to her…the other day, she seemed different. I think that’s why she wanted to get back together with me, because she wants to change, and if she did change, I would tolerate her more” He shrugs and comes close to me, putting his arms around my waste “Kinda too late though. Because someone else has my attention” And then he leans in and kisses me. I can’t help but smile and lean into him as well. “Who knows, I might even give you my heart” I laugh at how cheesy it is, and he does as well, but he still continues to kiss me.
“You’re so corny” I say, moving away and stirring the pasta. He hugs me from behind.
“You love it” He kisses the top of my head, and i hope he doesn’t see me smile.

After we make food, eat and clean up, we go into my room and spread out some school work - it’s our cover when my mom comes back, because I’m pretty sure she’ll add it to my grounding, no hanging out with friends at home. But we just end up talking and kissing. At one point he gets a text, and he blushes and laughs, before he shows it to me
‘I am thinking of enrolling into High School somehow just so I can be updated along with everyone else not like eons later!’ It’s from Ash. I laugh as well, and Calum quickly writes a text back and then puts his phone away.
“You didn’t tell him?” I ask, playing with my pen.
“I didn’t have when. I barely managed to snatch Luke and Mikey before lunch so I can tell them about it and they wouldn’t be weird during lunch” He laughs, and shoves me with his foot. I laugh and shove him back and then he attacks me with a hug and soon after we’re kissing. He tickles me, and I can’t move because he is basically lying over me, still kissing, trapping me underneath him.
“Addie, what ar-“ My mom walks in and quickly stops in her track. Calum jumps away and sits on the other side of the bed, blushing hard.
“Mom!” I say as a way of greeting, a bit panicked. I hope she doesn’t get the wrong idea.
“Hi, Mrs. Benson” Calum says, giving her an apologetic look.
She looks from one of us to the other a couple of times and then her eyes rest on me “I thought being grounded meant something these days” She gives me a stern look.
“Technically, you never said I couldn’t bring friends home. And besides…we’re studying” I say tucking my hair behind my ears. I notice her lips curve upwards for a moment when i say friends, but then she composes herself.
“That didn’t look like studying” She finally smiles. I feel blood raising to my cheeks, and I know she is enjoying this more than she should.
“Yeah. We were taking a break” I say and she raises her eyebrows “Also, we’re dating now” I smile and I see her noticing that I got onto her sadistic enjoyment of embarrassing us.
“Alright” She smiles, and I read her expression as ‘you won this, fare and square’ “But I want you guys actually studying. Also…I’m leaving the door open” She winks at me when I groan and then leaves, leaving the door slightly opened.
“I’m sorry about that” I say to Calum and he laughs.
“You handled that very well” He gives me a quick kiss, and then just for the sake of it, we really start studying.
At around 8, Calum leaves, through the front door, and kisses me, with first giving me a look that said ‘can I do it in front of your mom’ followed by me laughing and giving him a nod.
When I close the door, my mom just appears, from the living room.
“So” She says, sitting on a chair in the dining room. She has a mug with tea “You and Calum? How did that happen?”
“It was building up” I join her, knowing there is no avoiding this “Kinda happened yesterday, and now I guess we’re dating”
“Do you like him?” She asks innocently, taking a sip.
“Why would I be dating him otherwise?” I laugh and she shrugs.
“We’ve never actually had the talk” I groan but before I can say anything she adds “I know, I know. Awkward and unwelcome. You’re too smart anyway, so I don’t need to have it. Just gonna go through the basics” I put my forehead to the table and laugh “Don’t do anything you don’t want to do. Use protection. We can get you on contraceptions, they are safe and tested, what else?” I look at her, and she is also laughing
“I know mom” i say, smiling.
“Well” She says and stands up “If you need anything, if you have any questions, just ask me. You know you can always come to me, right?”
“Of course mom. And Cal and I have been together for less than 24h, so it’s kinda too early for this talk” My mom shrugs as if to say ‘Don’t look at me, I’m just doing my mom-job’ “But thanks anyway. I know you do it because you care” I say and stand up to hug her.
“Okay then.” She hugs me back “There are some dishes in the sink waiting for you. Let’s not keep them waiting longer, shall we?” She taps me on the back and then goes to the living room.
I roll my eyes, meaning well, and get on those dishes.
That night I get a text from Calum.
‘I’ll give you a ride tomorrow’ I read it and smile.
‘I know. You do it every morning.’ I reply
‘I know. Just wanted an excuse to text you’ he replies after a minute. I laugh out loud.
‘You are so lame. Goodnight’
‘Goodnight’
He replies and then I go to bed.
On Friday morning, I wake up, feeling rested and fresh. I braid my hair, and put on a skirt. I almost never wear skirts to school, but I think to myself Well, I’m not going out tonight so I might as well look good in school!
When Aggie and I lock up, Calum is locking up his house as well.
“Morning” Aggie says, and enters the back seat door.
“Morning” Cal calls out to her, and then he walks to me. “Hello” He says, and kisses me. He tastes like toothpaste and he smells of his boyish perfume, which he always smells like.
“As much as I enjoy watching you guys making out from inside the house, I think we’re gonna be late for school if you continue at it” Aggie says, from the opened door, which she closes as soon as she finishes. We both laugh, and then pull away.
When we get to school, and walk to the front doors, Cal sometimes puts his hand on my lower back, and then removes it, and he also opened the door for us, which he normally does all the time, but it felt different this time, which is really stupid because how can a person open a door differently than the week before. Makes no sense.
At lunch we are, again, sitting next to each other, and he sometimes puts his hand on my knee, but no one can actually see that, so it’s fine, it feels intimate, and it feels private.
Luke and Mikey tease us again, before we get into the bed bugs bsusiness. We decide to go to Ash’s after school and discuss it there, when Aggie joins us. This time, she is talkative and gets along with Luke quite well actually. I look at Lucy, but she doesn’t seem as if she’s jealous or something, she is deep into conversation with Mikey and Calum.
“Just get it back to your natural hair color!” Lucy says, and drinks from her coffee cup. “It will fall off!”
“I like it” Calum says, but with a mischievous smile which gave me the impression that he’s just saying that to piss of Mikey.
“I guess you’re right” Michael says to Lucy, ignoring Calum’s comment.
“There are all kinds of product that remove hair dye from naturally light coloured hair, so you won’t have to re-dye it.
“But I don’t like it blond” Mkey says “I am very faired skinned, and I look weird."
“It’ll be just until winter break, which is in July so it’s totally weird, but, it’ll get healthier and then you’ll dye it black or something, which won’t you know…kill it!”
He finally agrees.
“Aggie needs to dye her roots” I say, and Aggie tunes in when she hears her name and gives me a look like ‘thanks a lot sis, anything else you wanna point out?’
“It’s kinda obvious” Luke laughs, and she does too, shaking her head.
“We can do it together!” Mikey says, and it feels as if Aggie has been a part of our group all along.
They discuss hair dye brands and Cal gives me a little squeeze on my knee.
“What?” I ask quietly, only for him to hear.
“Nothing” He smiles and gives me a tiny kiss on my temple. I know it’s not nothing, but I also know it’s not bad. I think he just seems glad that I am all happy and cheery, which I am because my friends are accepting Aggie, and not judging her too hard. Maybe I should do that.
After school, we pile in Cal’s car, Aggie walks home, and we head over to Ash’s to discuss the bed bugs problem. I unboxed them this morning and put the two vials, which are tightly sealed, in my bag.
“I’ve been paranoid all day that they will get loose in it” I say, taking them out. They are in an coldbox or whatever it’s called, and I set them down on the floor.
“So, how are we doing this?” Mikey asks.
We are all sitting in a circle on the floor.
“Isn’t this a bit childish?” Luke asks, and we all look at him.
“Yes” Lucy says “What’s your point?”
“Nothing” He adds quickly “Just pointing it out” She nods gives him a little tap on the knee, and turns back towards the centre.
“So” I begin “I was thinking, we have to let them loose directly in their rooms” I say. Cal has his hand around my shoulders, and it all seems so natural. “We can’t guarantee that they won’t notice them in their gym bags or whatever”
“True” Ash points out. “So we need to be super stealthy. Like ninjas”
We all laugh at that.
“There’s that party tonight” Cal says “One of the 12 graders is throwing it, and I think they’ll all go”
“What party?” I ask, confused. “Why do I never know about any of these things?”
“Because you only hang out with like 4 people at school” Lucy says to me and they all laugh.
“So do you” I say, laughing as well.
“Hey! I’ve made more friends than just you losers!” She defends herself, and flips her hair dramatically “So, tonight is our chance!” She gets back on topic.
“We need look outs” Mikey joins in “We need people at the party, in case one of them decides to leave early”
“True!” Lucy points to him.
“We need to be careful and efficient. I mean, they have parents, and their parents will notice if some teenagers try to sneak into their children’s homes” I say. “We have to split into teams of two. Two teams distribute bed bugs to four houses, one team is at the party.” Calum smiles at me.
“What are the teams?” Luke asks, and they are all looking at me, as if I’m in charge. So I take charge.
“Lucy and I are team 1, Mikey and Calum are team 2, Luke and Ash are team 3” I say.
“Can we not be numbers?” Ash says, before I can continue
“Fine. Pick a colour” I say.
“Blue” Cal says.
“Yellow” Luke adds and Ashton looks at him “What?”
“Yellow? Out of all the colours, you pick yellow?” Ash laughs.
“It’s an okay colour” Luke defends himself
“Okay is not good enough, Luke!” Ash says, in mock seriousness.
“Can we focus please?” I laugh and they all turn their attention back on me.
“What colour are you?” Cal asks me. I feel his breath close to my cheek.
Lucy and I exchange a look, and somehow we agree “Red” I say.
“Alright, so who’s on bug distributing duty?” Luke asks.
“Red and Blue” I say.
“What? Why?” Luke whines.
“Yeah, we have a car!” Ash seconds him “You guys should go to the party, and we’ll distribute bugs.”
“They have a point” Mikey says.
“Um, your car is super loud” Lucy says, to Ash “We need to be stealthy ninjas. Keyword stealthy! Besides, me and Addie showing up to a party we don’t know the host of is suspicious”
“True that” I say and give her a high-five across the circle.
“Fine” Luke says.
“Don’t be whiny” Lucy says, and taps his arm “You guys are our lookout”
When the teams are ready, and we’ve all planned out, Cal drives me home. Lucy takes one of the vials, and Mikey takes the other one.
I get home just in time, because 10 minutes after that, my mom does as well, and she wouldn’t know if I wasn’t actually home after school.
“Hey honey” She says to me.
“Hey mom!” I say, and go to my room. I need to plan this out. I take out a box I still haven’t gotten around to unpack. It’s full of bathroom cosmetics which I almost never use, so there has been no point. Then I rummage through it, hoping to find- “Hey mom!” I say “Look what I found!” I say and hold up two bath bombs from Lush.
“Oh! I was looking for them a couple of weeks ago!” She says taking it “Were they in your room the whole time?”
“Yeah, I had this books full of random stuff I don’t really use, and i just found them.” I say, and turn the other one in my hand.
“Oh this is neat!”
“So” I say setting them down, and sitting on the armchair in the living room. “What are your Friday night plans?”
“I have that date with the officer” She says, and blushes a little.
“Oh! I almost forgot! Where are you guys going?” I ask.
“I don’t know if we are. I might cancel” She says. This could be an extra cover up.
“Why?” I ask, trying not to sound like I want my mom out of the house.
“I don’t know. I haven’t been on a date in a while” She says.
And then I manage to convince her, without sounding too suspicious.
At around 7 ish the officer picks her up, and she says she’ll be back in a couple of hours. Which for my mom means she’ll be back at around 10. It’s not late enough.
When she leaves, Aggie and I discuss the officer and our first impressions of him. He seems nice, and his face is kind. He had dark eyes and light brown hair, and he was around my mom’s age by the looks of it, but definitely handsome.
“Hey, so I want to go out tonight. With Calum” I say and she looks very interested “But I’m grounded, and if mom comes back before I’m back can you just say I’m using one of these” I say, pointing to the lush bombs “And I’m like taking a long bath or whatever?”
“Where are you going with Calum?” She asks, leaning forward.
“Ummm” I say, not wanting to lie “I think just dinner somewhere, and then maybe drive around” She nods, taking one of the bath bombs and looking it over.
“Under one condition” She says, and I’m afraid, but I nod “I can have this one” She says, holding up the bath bomb. I nod and then go to my room to get ready.

The party starts at 9 which means, people will be going in at around 9:30, 10. Luke and Ash will go then as well, and tell us when Marissa and her friends arrive. I check if everyone got their vials, and if everyone knows their jobs. I then take out black clothes from my closet - I choose stretchy black leggings, a black top, and a black hoodie. My boots are already black, so that just works. So I put everything on, braid my hair in two french braids, and text Lucy to make sure she’s home, so I can come over soon.
At around 8, I hear a knock on my door. I open it and I see Calum.
“Woah” He says, looking at me “You are really taking this black ninja stealth thing seriously” I laugh and wrap my arms around his neck.
“You should too. We can be a powerful ninja couple” I say giving him a kiss.
“A couple? We’re a couple?” He asks, and i pull back a little bit. Did I say the wrong thing? Am I making it awkward? But then he pulls me in again and laughs. “Kidding!”
We kiss for a while and then my phone buzzes.
“That’s probably Lucy, giving me the green light to go over at her place” I say and he smiles.
“I should get my ninja outfit on” He says, and i nod. “Wanna ride?” He then offers and I nod.
I get a small backpack - black with a grey pattern, I used to use this all the time - and put my wallet, my phone and my keys inside it.
We then get to Cal’s car, and he drives me to Lucy’s, although he drops me off a few houses back, on a crossroad.
“So Marissa doesn’t notice my car” He says and leans in to kiss me.
“Nice touch. We are taking this really seriously” I laugh, kiss him again, and then I’m out.
I creep around, and text Lucy to meet me at her back door. She sneaks me in, and we are up in her room. My aunt and uncle are downstairs watching tv and they don’t notice.
“What time is it?” I ask, and she shows me her phone clock. It says 8:30. “I’m getting nervous” I say and laugh.
“Relax. We’ll be in and out. I have the vial” She says, showing it to me. “Phone’s on silent, and, just in case, I have two black hats. One of them is a baseball hat and the other is a beanie.
“I’ll take the beanie” I say, and put it on, checking myself in the mirror.
“Suit yourself” She says. Her hair is in a pony tail, and she changes into her black clothing, putting the baseball hat as a finishing touch.
We sit around, talking in low voices, when Luke texts her around 10
A and S are here. Don’t see Chris or Marissa yet
We look at each other. We were planning on hitting Marissa’s house first, since it’s across the street, and then take Stephen’s, but it’s fine.
On it’ Lucy texts back.
So in no time, Lucy sneaks me out back, and then puts on a coat and takes off her hat, to announce to her parents that she is leaving and then we are out of the house and walking to Stephen’s.
