Make It Stop ⇼ Luke Hemmings

Six.

It’s a typical Wednesday night. We’re all hanging out at Calum’s house, watching some dumb horror film. Cal and Steph are chatting about something in the kitchen, most likely useless fighting, Ella and Mikey are snogging, and Kaylee has fallen asleep on Ash. Luke and I are pretending to ignore each other, keeping our relationship a secret, but all I want to do is lean over and kiss him. I would, too, if I wasn’t afraid Ash, Ella, or Mikey would catch us.
“Cal and I made arrangements for this weekend.” Luke glanced at Ash.
“Yeah?” Ash asked. “What’d we get?”
“Four bedroom cabin. I booked it for Thursday afternoon to Sunday.” Ash nodded. We have a ‘teacher’s workshop day’ this Friday, meaning we get out of school Friday for no apparent reason. They have teacher workshop days once a month.
“So are you and Romy going to sleep in the same bed, then?” Ashton asked, completely oblivious that he had brought me into the conversation.
“It’s fifty dollars cheaper for a four bedroom.” He shrugged. “If she’s really against it-” Lukes eyes burnt into me. “I’ll sleep on the couch.”

Finally, it’s Thursday afternoon, and we’re all gathered at Ashton’s discussing who is going to drive and who is going to stop along the way to get essentials—such as food, snacks, firestarter, bugspray. After a good hour of arguing, we decided to have Calum drive himself, Ella, Steph, Mikey, and Kaylee in his car and they’d stop to get the food, drinks and other essentials, while Luke, Ashton and I drove in Luke’s car. I wasn’t thrilled about the idea that Luke and I weren’t going to be alone at all, but it’s not like I could complain. We’d also decided it’d be best to put all our bags in the boot of Luke’s truck considering it was the largest. After throwing their stuff in the boot, the other car took off, leaving Luke and I waiting as Ashton finished his usual last minute packing. Finally finishing, Ash threw his stuff in the boot, and Luke cursed.
“Shit, Ash I left my keys in your room. Could you-” He was cut off with a smile.
“Sure!” As soon as he disappeared inside, Luke grabbed me, pulling me closer and pressing his lips against mine. I giggled, setting my hands on his chest.
“You did that on purpose.” I teased, causing him to kiss me again.
“What can I say?” He asked, “You look great.” Laughing, I pulled away from him, climbing in his car and waiting for Ash to return.

After Ash got back, we finally began to drive Luke’s arm was slung over the back of the seat, I was crammed between him and Ash. The radio was playing All Time Low’s Don’t Panic album, Ash was going on about him and Kaylee’s makeup sex. After about five minutes of him talking to an uninterested Luke and myself, I cut him off.
“Listen, Ash.” I stifled a laugh. “I don’t really care about what you two talk about in guy time, and all due respect, but I’ve already heard this story three times from Kaylee.” Ash laughed a bit.
“Alright, then. Insight us, Romy. What’s new in the sex life of Romina Baker?” I scoffed, rolling my eyes. before I could answer, Luke spoke.
“There is no sex life.” He teased, making me purse my lips as I forced a laugh.
“I beg to differ!” Ashton laughed. “She’s got hickeys. It’s not like she can give ‘em to herself.”
“It’s not like anyone else would give ‘em to her either.” Luke cockily spoke, immediately gaining a gasp from me.

“Fuck off, Luke!” I spat, Ash laughed, shaking his head.
“Why don’t you tell how you got those hickey’s then?” He challenged.
“Because it’s none of his damn business!”
“Well, I’m sure he’d like to know.” Luke rolled his eyes.
“It doesn’t matter, it was over as quick as it began!” I yelled, Luke’s eyes widened, getting my point that what he said hurt me, almost to the point of being done.
“Jesus Christ you two are like my fucking grandparents. Anything either of you say pisses the other off.” Ashton joked.
“Well maybe is Luke wasn’t such an arse!” I barked, Luke sighed.
“Maybe if Romy didn’t take everything so seriously!” He bit back.
“Maybe if you didn’t make dumb arse arrogant comments-” He cut me off.
“Maybe if you didn’t bitch about everything!”
“Guys!” Ashton yelled, breaking us away from the fighting. “Romy, calm down! Luke, quit being a douche! Both of you shut up and just enjoy the weekend!” He scolded. “Jesus.” He sighed. “Could you pull over?” He asked. “I’ve to take a leak.” Luke obliged, pulling over to the side of the deserted road. Ashton got out, his lower half disappearing in the thick bushes as he went to the bathroom.
“I’m sorry.” Luke mumbled, trying to pull my face to him, I jerked away.
“Save it.” I crossed my arms, looking away from him. Ashton came back, and the rest of the ride was filled with silence.

We finally arrived at the cabin. It was absolutely beautiful, equipped with four similar bedrooms, each with their own small bathroom, a kitchen, and a living room. I wish I could come here everyday, as it’s honestly breathtaking. The others hadn’t got here yet, so Ashton, Luke, and I got the things out of the boot and put them in the cabin. Luke and I took our things to the room we were sharing, Ashton following our lead with his and Kaylee’s things. As I put my things down, I felt Luke’s arms wrap around my waist, his chest pressing into my back as his chin set on my shoulder.
“I’m sorry.” He whispered.
“Luke, stop.” I rasped, attempting to push him off me.
“I’m sorry.” He repeated, “Don’t be mad.” I crossed my arms as he kissed my cheek. “Are you mad?” He asked me. I didn’t reply. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said anything.”
“No, you shouldn’t have.” I snarled, pushing him away from me and kneeling down, in hopes to busy myself long enough for him to leave. He grabbed my hand, pulling me back up to face him, holding me close by my hips.
“I’m sorry, Romy.” He told me again. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” Pulling away, Luke grabbed my wrist. “Would you just talk to me?” He began to get irritated.
“Talk to you?” I spat. “Fine. Luke, the things you say to me when other people are around, yeah, they fucking hurt. You have no right to talk to me that way, especially not in front of our friends! And I don’t want to be with you if you’re going to treat me like shit!” Luke frowned, his eyes falling to the floor. “And you’re fucking crazy if you think I can just forgive you after saying something like that to me.” Luke pulled me in for a hug, but I stayed still as his arms wrapped around me. I stared out the window, watching the sun as it got ready to set. Tearing my eyes away, I pushed Luke off me. “Don’t touch me.” I spat.

“I just want to hold you.” He spoke, his eyes sad.
“Why?” I challenged. “No one wants me, remember?” I shot his words back at him, pain immediately crossing his features. My hands were shaking as I pushed my hair behind my ear, trying not to cry as I recalled his words.
“I-I didn’t mean that.” He stuttered. “You know I didn’t.”
“No, Luke. I don’t know.” I scoffed.
“Baby-”
“Don’t call me baby!” I ordered.
“Please.” He whimpered.
“Just go.” I looked away from him. “I don’t want to see you.”
“I’m not leaving until you forgive me.” He said.
“I’m not going to forgive you.” He bit his lip, exiting the room. I sat on the bed and sighed, putting my face in my hands. The door opened and closed once again. Looking up, I saw Luke had returned with Calum’s guitar.
“Would it help if I sang to you?” He asked, sitting next to me.
“No.” He began playing the guitar anyways, singing along to Lego House by Ed Sheeran.

“I'm gonna pick up the pieces,
And build a Lego house
If things go wrong we can knock it down

My three words have two meanings,
There's one thing on my mind
It's all for you

And it's dark in a cold December, but I've got you to keep me warm
If you're broken I will mend you and I'll keep you sheltered from the storm that's raging on now

I'm out of touch, I'm out of love
I'll pick you up when you're getting down
And out of all these things I've done I think I love you better now
I'm out of sight, I'm out of mind
I'll do it all for you in time
And out of all these things I've done I think I love you better now, now

I'm gonna paint you by numbers
And colour you in
If things go right we can frame it and put you on a wall

And it's so hard to say it but I've been here before
Now I'll surrender up my heart
And swap it for yours

I'm out of touch, I'm out of love
I'll pick you up when you're getting down
And out of all these things I've done I think I love you better now
I'm out of sight, I'm out of mind
I'll do it all for you in time
And out of all these things I've done I think I love you better now

Don't hold me down
I think my braces are breaking, and it's more than I can take

And it's dark in a cold December, but I've got you to keep me warm
If you're broken I will mend you and I'll keep you sheltered from the storm that's raging on now

I'm out of touch, I'm out of love
I'll pick you up when you're getting down
And out of all these things I've done I think I love you better now
I'm out of sight, I'm out of mind
I'll do it all for you in time
And out of all these things I've done I think I love you better now

I'm out of touch, I'm out of love
I'll pick you up when you're getting down

And out of all these things I've done I think I love you better now

I'm out of sight, I'm out of mind
I'll do it all for you in time
And out of all these things I've done I think I love you better now
I'm out of touch, I'm out of love
I'll pick you up when you're getting down
And out of all these things I've done I will love you better now.”

His eyes stared nervously at me as he set the guitar down, judging my reaction. I couldn’t help but smile, shaking my head.
“You’re an idiot.” I laughed, biting my lip.
“I’m sorry.” He whispered, pushing my thick, black hair behind my ear.
“I know.” I whispered back at him, standing up and sitting on his lap, setting my head on his shoulder as his arms protectively wrapped around me, his blue eyes staring at me. My hand travelled to his hair, playing with it as the other remained on the opposite shoulder, I lifted my head to look at him. “You hurt me.” I whispered. “When you said what you did.” A tear slowly rolled down my cheek. “It hurt me really bad.” Luke wiped the stray tears away, his hold on me tightening.
“I know.” He croaked. “I’m sorry I hurt you.” His hands moved slowly down my back, settling on the small and staring at my lips. He pressed his against mine briefly, and I pulled away.
“I’m still mad at you.” I giggled, kissing him again. He mumbled an ‘I know’ into my mouth as his tongue slid in. In a bold move, I slowly moved my hand down his chest, as I reached the waistline of his pants, Luke chuckled into my mouth, pulling away.
“What are you doing?” He asked, smiling.
“I want to touch you.” I whispered, biting my lip. Luke swallowed a lump in his throat, playing with his lip ring as he stared at me. I moved my lips to his again, attempting to clumsily palm him through his skinny jeans. He throatily moaned into me, bucking his hips up slightly. Our tongues battled for dominance as one of Luke’s hands slid to my stomach, finding it’s way under my shirt and crawling up, squeezing me over my bra. Before we could carry further, the door was knocked open and Ashton cursed, slamming it closed once again as I, panicked, climbed off Luke, I covered my face in embarrassment. “Luke!” I started, hoping he’d get the message. He did, nodding quickly and hurrying out of the room, after Ashton. Shit!
