We're on Fire

I pull on my jeans and grab a shirt to put on over my inked up chest. After I pull on the nearest Rolling Stone t-shirt, which was one of my favorite bands, I walk out of my room. As I begin to make my way down the hall toward the stairs, I hear Liam on the phone. I wonder who he was talking to. As I neared the staircase, I rest my back against the nearest wall as I continue to listen in on his conversation.

“Alright, see you soon, Ash! Can’t wait to see you!” he concludes and sets his phone down somewhere, after ending the call, most likely. She was coming today? I couldn’t wait to see this girl and see how fit she was. The pictures probably wouldn’t do fucking justice. I bring my lip ring in between my teeth slowly and run a hand through my hair as I head down the stairs.

I make my presence known once I got to the bottom of the staircase. I grab my shoes that were near the door. Once I grab my shoes, I make my way past Liam, who had a cheery look on his face, to the living room. I stop and look at him for a brief second, a slight smirk on my lips.

“What’s with that look, Liam? Excited ‘bout somethin’? I ask as I take a seat on the nearest couch so I could slip on my shoes. I was going to meet up with a few of my mates then possibly go to a party after a while. Tonight, I’d asked for the night off because I simply didn’t feel like working, but I told them I was feeling a bit “under the weather” and my manager, Mark, surprisingly bought it.

“Ashton’s on her way, Haz! You knew she was comin’ today, right?” he asks and pushes my shoulder. I roll my eyes and tell him I sure did, I couldn’t wait to get a look of her myself.

“I can’t wait to meet her, Li. Is she hot?” I ask with a smirk as I look at him.

“Haz, you and your need to know if the bird is hot… yeah, I guess you could say that,” he says and rolls his eyes.

“Just curious, geez, Li, don’t get your feathers ruffled too much, it’s just a question,” I reply, a tone of sarcasm in my voice.

“Mhm…” he says before he makes his way to the door. I bet he was going outside to wait for her like a watch dog.

After he was out of the room, I sit there for a minute or two before my phone begins to buzz in my pocket. I had a new text message from someone. I was sure it was one from Niall. I pull my phone from my pocket so I could read the message.

Hey mate! You comin’ to the party at Alpha Sigma Phi tonight? Won’t be fun without you or Liam there! Be here at 9 if you do.

After I read the message, I begin to reply back. The smirk never left my face as I finished reading his message. Fuck yeah I was going. I’d never miss a party, hell, I never do. Almost right away, I begin to type my reply.

Hell yeah I’ll be there! Still at home now, though. This new girl, who’s best mates with Liam, is comin’ to live with us…and she’s new to campus this year.

I stand there for a few minutes before I put my phone back in my pocket and head toward the kitchen. I was hungry and wanted something to eat but have no idea what the hell I want. If there’s anything left, at all. Just as I step foot in the kitchen, the front door swings open and I hear voices carry inside, a girl’s voice along with Liam’s.

Their voices traveled into the room, the front room near the stairs. I couldn’t help but walk toward the doorway that led into the living room from the kitchen.

“C’mon, Ash, there’s someone I want you to meet…” I hear Liam tell her and I hear their footsteps coming closer. I can’t help but stop in my tracks when I see her standing there. She was gorgeous with dark hair that looked almost black and these captivating dark blue-green eyes. My god this girl was beautiful. She was so fit and had perfect curves in all the right places. I can’t help but smirk a bit as I look at her when I notice she was looking me up and down. I couldn’t help but want to get to know her better.

“I’m Harry, nice to meet you, babe,” I say with a smirk and bring my lip ring between my teeth. She smiles a bit and shifts her gaze away from mine. Just by looking at her, she seemed a bit nervous by my appearance, I’m sure. She seemed pretty damn nervous as she stared back at me.

“Ashton,” she replies with a small smile.

After standing there a few more minutes and not saying anything, Liam finally speaks up. “Ash, how ‘bout I show you to your room then I could give you a tour ‘round campus if y–” he tells her with a smile and moves forward so he was next to her. I can’t help but let my eyes continue to look her up and down. She wore a pink shirt and jeans that were ripped in the knees along with a pair of combat looking boots that went to her ankle.

“I could show ya ‘round, love, was about to head out and meet up with a few of my mates for a bit,” I say with a smile and shift the weight from my left foot to my right, crossing my arms over my chest. “We’re goin’ to a party tonight as well, you up to come with us?” I ask as I look over at her and wait for her reply, a smirk on my lips.

She doesn’t answer right away and stays silent a moment or so before she opens her mouth, “Uh, sure, I-I guess so,” she replies and looks back toward the staircase where I noticed some bags were sitting, hers I presume, on the second step. I smile a bit as I look at her.

“I…I may go freshen up a bit and take my bags to my room first off,” she replies a bit nervously and turns to walk toward the stairs. As she goes to grab her bags that were sitting on the stairs, Liam beats her to it and she lets out a sigh.

“I got it, love, no worries,” he tells her with a smile and retreats up the stairs, her bags in hand. She thanks him with a smile and he returns the smile and nods before going forward and grabbing the bags in one swoop, tossing them over his shoulder. “Oh, and Haz, tell Niall that Sadie and I’ll be there ‘round nine-thirty,” he says and turns to look at me, a small smile on his face as he says her name.

“Will do, mate,” I reply and take a step toward Ashton.

“What kind of name is Niall? It sounds weird,” she remarks with a slight laugh. I just shrug my shoulders and continue my way to the door. As I reach the door, I look back to find her staring over at me.

“You comin’ or what?” I question as I cross my arms over my chest while I stand there and wait for her.

She nods before walking toward where I was. I reach for the door handle and pull it open and hold it open for her after I walk out, deciding to be nice for once, especially to a bird like her. Something, I don’t know what, made me want to be nice for a change. I was hardly nice to anyone, even my best mates, Liam included.

She steps out onto the porch and puts her phone in the pocket of her jeans. I grab hold of her wrist before I walk down the steps toward my car that was parked in front of the small ass flat we were living in. I can’t help but chuckle a bit and bring my lip ring between my teeth as I look at her. The look on her face was priceless as she looked at me and then back at the car in front of us.

“You’re taking me ‘round in this?” she questions, pointing to the old beat up black Mazda in front of the house, which was mine, obviously. At least it still ran, being a little over four years old, being through hell and back, basically.

“Why so many questions?” I ask as I walk to the passenger side door to open it for her. She shrugs her shoulders as I pull it open so she could get in. After she climbs in, I shut the door behind her before I go ‘round to the driver’s side, keys in hand.

“Don’t know, I’m the curious type I guess, you won’t know things if you don’t ask,” she replies as I climb in the driver’s side and slam the door shut and stick the keys in the ignition. After I put my seat belt on for plenty of safety reasons, I start up the car.

“You’re right I guess,” I mumble as I pull onto the street and begin to head toward campus so I could show her ‘round.

There wasn’t much to show her, it’s like every Uni campus, really, with a university quad, student center, and academic buildings for specific courses or whatever. I begin to show her around the campus and tell her everything I knew. After I went and showed her where to get her schedule, she gets that and I take her down Greek row, where we were going to be tonight.

In the midst of all things, we soon run into a few mates of mine, Louis and Zayn, along with Liam, obviously. As they approach with a few cases of beer in each of their arms, they call out to me, “’Ey Haz! What’s up, man? You comin’ tonight? And who’s this pretty bird ya got with ya?” Zayn speaks up and brings up one of his hands and high-fives Louis as the two of them walk up to where I stood with Ashton beside me.

“This is Ashton, lads. She’s comin’ with us tonight, just moved in with Liam and I earlier, was showin’ her ‘round,” I tell them and shrug my shoulders a bit as I look over at the beautiful girl who stood beside me. She had fixated her eyes on the concrete. A few minutes later, she looks up at the inked up guys with piercings just like I did, and gives them a slight smile.

“See you tonight, babe,” Zayn tells her with a smile and a wink. I roll my eyes at his actions.

After a few minutes of standing around and chatting with them, the two walk off with the beers, presumably for the party tonight. It was going to be a fun night, that’s for sure.
