Dreams vs. Reality

Chapter Four

Harry’s POV

Paul waved his hand over her face, but she hasn’t flinched. It’s been a good two minutes and by now everyone was staring at her. I couldn’t help but take in her appearance. Her golden brown eyes sparkled as our eyes didn't disconnect. A smirk slowly came across my face as she continued to stare. Her face slowly turned to a light red as she blushed. She' pretty cute. The girl from the counter walked around and stood by her co-worker.

“Will you excuse us for a moment?” She says, dragging the girl behind her, finally snapping her back to reality.

They quickly disappeared into the back of the café, out of sight. Niall kept his gaze on the girl from the counter, as her free hand was continuously bringing her hair to her right shoulder. Once the door shut behind them, the three guys that joined us began to 'ooh', causing Niall, Paul and I to give them confused looks.

“What?” Niall and I asked them simultaneously, a smirk appearing on their faces. A grin involuntarily came across my face as Louis stood between Niall and I and patted our backs.

“I think that these gents have finally found a lover, don’t you think lads?” Louis said, turning to Zayn and Liam, as they nodded at the same time in agreement. Niall and I shrugged.

“I don’t think Chasity knows who we are though.” Niall said.

“The one from behind the counter, right?” Liam asked. Niall nodded.

“She acted like she had no idea who I was. Or Paul for the matter. Nor did the other girl.” Niall continued. We all looked to Paul who shrugged.

“But what about you, Harry?” Zayn asked, crossing his arms, smiling.

“I think she is either a fan, or she hates us. Either one. Both types would have reacted the same way, right?” They pretty much do...

“But you like her, don’t you?” Paul asked, crossing his arms across his chest. We all looked at him as he isn't one to be in these conversations. She seems cute, no scratch that, she is cute. I wouldn't mind being with her at all. I shrugged as my answer, shoving my hands in my pockets, looking around the room.

"Awe, wittle Harry has a crush." Louis pinches my cheek, earning a swat to the hand from me. I don't think it will go that far.

"Fuck off, mate." I tell him chuckling.

“What do you think is going on in there?” Paul said, looking behind the counter, quickly changing the subject.

“Are they the reason why you brought us here?” I questioned Paul. He motioned his hand for 'partially'.

“Paul, how much longer is our break?” Liam asked, looking down at his watch. Paul became wide eyed.

“What time is it?” he asked him.

“Its 6:40-“ I glanced at the clock on the wall.

“Okay guys back to the van, let’s go.” He said, walking towards the way we came.

“But, what about the coffee? The pastries? The girls?” Niall asked, placing his hand on the display glass and looking down at all the pastries, being dramatic. Paul shook his head.

“Another day guys. Promise.” He said, holding the door open. I patted Niall on the back gently, as he stood away from the display case of donuts and muffins and walked towards the door, all of us following in suit.

I looked back at the counter hopefully getting a chance to see the girl once more, but she wasn’t there. We all left the café and filled in the van again, sitting in the same seats as we came, the sweet aroma of the cafe gone and replaced with that new car smell. As we pulled out of the café, I realized something, I don’t even know her name.

“Paul?” I asked.

“Yes Harry?” He responds, looking at me from the rear view mirror.

“What was her name?” He stayed quiet for a moment, thinking.

“Amber, I believe.” He responded.

“Amber.” I spoke. I nodded my head, smiling at the name. I pulled out my phone and made a contact list, without the number... That's going to be my goal. Now, let's see if we can find an address...

Amber’s POV

“Will you excuse us for a moment?” I vaguely hear Chasity tell them before dragging me behind her. Only then I snapped out of my gaze, which was on Harry the entire time. I felt the heat rise to my face even more as I felt their gaze, watching us leave them for the employee’s only room. Once the door shut behind her, she began to laugh hysterically.

“What?” I asked her, offended.

“What do you mean 'What?'? What happened back there? You froze like a fucking statue!” She laughs. I sighed and sat in one of the old wooden chairs, burying my face in my hands in disappointment.

“I don’t know. I didn’t think that they would have come…” I confessed. She stopped laughing, and probably looked at me just like how One Direction just looked at me. Great.

“What are you talking about?” She asked, taking a seat next to me.

“Remember yesterday, when Marissa made me spill the 5 coffees on myself? And when I went to make him more, he made us do an extra?”

“Yeah?” She looks at me confused.

“That was Paul. He was the one in the security outfit. The coffees were for the five guys that were with him. You know who they are, right?” I slowly asked her while removing my face from my hands. She shook her head, now with pure confusion.

“Chase, they are the ones that I always listen to! You know, when I get those moments!” I said, shocked that she didn’t recognize them.

“You mean, One Direction?” she asked. I nodded my head. “Oh." Give her a moment... "OH..." She says, now understanding. I nod. "Uhm.. Quick question, though..." She asks, picking at her nails.

"What?"

"Who is the blond one?” She asks, now playing with the ends of her hair.

“That’s Niall. Why?” I ask, remembering that he and Harry were at the counter with Paul before Zayn, Liam, and Louis joined them. She stays silent, refusing to make eye contact with me. A smirk began to appear on my face slowly, putting the pieces together.

“No reason.” She said, playing with the ends of her hair, as if it was something incredibly amazing to her.

“What happened?” My smirk began to turn into a grin.

“Nothing, he's just... I think... Well he's... He's just... Cute.” She told me, blushing slightly. A grin came upon my face. I shoved her lightly. She was in a relationship before, a couple weeks ago actually, but certain things happened and now they are both single. If anything, I'm glad she is moving on so quickly. He was no good for her anyway.

“Ooh, Chasity has a crush!” I said. She rolled her eyes.

“Like you don’t like Harry. You couldn’t keep your eyes off of him.” Now it was my turn to become rosy pink. I still can’t believe that they actually came, and I basically had a staring contest with him. The way he smirked at me, with one of dimples showing made me blush even more.

“Come on, we got coffee to make.” Chasity said, standing up. I shook my head quickly.

“No way I’m going back out there.” I said, standing my ground.

"Why not?" She crosses her arms.

"They are going to think I'm weird, and ask why didn't I say anything, making me freeze up again. I would have to look down at my hands and not make eye contact... Especially Harry..." I explained to her. She shook her head in amusement, and began to pull me up before both of us walking out.

"Come on, just try." She bargains. I sighed. What are they going to say? How will they act? What if they think I’m weird? What if they treat me weirdly, just because I didn’t even say hello?

I didn’t even say hello! Who does that! I rubbed my hands in my face, trying to calm myself as Chasity pushed the door to the dining area open. We both looked around, not seeing them. I looked outside, and saw a van driving away, with Paul in the driver's seat. Of course.

“Great, I scared them off.” I sighed, slouching in one of the empty chairs nearest to the counter. I scared away the ones that meant the most to me, that weren’t related to me. I put my head in my hands, disappointed in myself for reacting the way I did. My fuzzy mind went dark for the second time today, great.

“You are weak, ignorant, and a waste of time. You don’t even deserve the things we have slaved to get you. Why should we even bother trying to get you an mp3?! Why not just play with the doll your grandmother gave you? Do you know how much music can brain wash you? It’s unacceptable. Absolutely a waste of time and money. Why can’t you ever just be like the rest of the good girls in your class? The ones that don’t ask for everything?” The mother yells, storming out of the little girl’s bedroom, with the father closely behind. He was shaking his head at his daughter, who sat in her bed, afraid to speak, tears brimming her eyes.

“Ambos?” I heard Chasity say, making me jump. I removed my head, looking up at a concerned Chasity. “Where’s your iPod?” She asks, getting up. I felt my face, and it was stained with tears. I thought for a moment. Did I even bring my iPod?

“It’s at home. With everything that happened today, I must have left it behind.” I said, looking up at Chasity. Before she could speak, the door to the Manager’s Office swung open.

“Ms. Amber Hudson, my office, NOW.” He raises his voice, retreating to his office. The café was empty and it was about closing time so no one heard him but us. The other employees’ have left already, and it was just Chasity and I. He liked the other employees, like Matthew, who was like a son to him, but not Chasity and I. I looked up at Chasity, who had a hard face. I stood up from the seat and began to walk to the office, bracing myself with whatever may happen. Once I was in, Mr. Sanchez looked behind me angrily.

“I only addressed to Ms. Amber Hudson, have I not?” He's becoming aggravated. That isn't good. I turned around seeing Chasity leaning against the door frame.

“What you say to her goes to me as well.” She stated, standing her ground. She is like an older, protective sister to me. Reasons why we are best friends.

“Go, Ms. Simmons, this does not concern you.” If you look closely, you can tell that he is trying to keep himself from losing his temper.

“If it concerns Amber, it concerns me, sir.” She said, sneering at him.

“Chasity-" I started, but was cut of by a pissed off boss.

“GET OUT!” Mr. Sanchez screams, standing from his seat, pointing at the door with one hand and slamming his wooden desk with the other. It echoed a loud bang through the room, scaring me for a moment before re-building my composure.

“No!” She says furiously. It was then that we realized that we have never gone this far with Mr. Sanchez, and we are going to regret it.
