Dreams vs. Reality

Chapter Twenty-One

Amber's POV

Hopping out of my shower all clean and refreshed, I met Chasity in my room in my clothes that she had picked out for me, and my towel-dried hair wrapped on top of my head with the towel. She set up my room as if it was a hair salon. Hair products were scattered on the center of my desk, hair straightener and brush at each end.

She saw me enter and smiled at me, pulling out my chair, motioning for me to sit. She got herself done as well, since there are two showers in the house. I took the one not connected to my room since Chasity wanted the place to herself for a moment. Obviously this was why. She pushed my chair in, so all I see now is Chasity and my reflection in the mirror in front of me.

“Alright, all that’s left is your hair. I didn’t want to put on makeup since I know that it’s going to get hot in there, and it would just turn out… You know. Gross. So that’s going to be saved for tomorrow.” She explained as she checked the straightener to make sure it was hot before passing a light coat of heat protector on my hair, then passing the straightener through it.

Light conversation filled the room of how we would imagine the concert would be like tonight, and the plans for tomorrow. In the back of my mind, however, I was leaping with excitement, since this is the first concert I have ever been to. Ever. Chasity has been to other concerts before, but this is her first One Direction concert, so we are almost on the same boat.

A little part of me is actually a bit terrified of tonight. After what happened at the mall earlier today, I became a little too self-conscious. When I took my shower, reality hit me hard, scratch that, a bit too hard. I am going to be in an arena, with thousands of Directioners, for about, what, three hours? Is that how long their concerts are?

I had a small vision followed small panic attack in the shower a few minutes ago, but I was able to recover from it rather quickly. I don’t tend to have panic attacks often, they were usually my visions without them, but this time, the vision was from a whole different perspective.

I was stood on an empty street, alone. No one was around me. It was raining and dark, not a clear light source in sight. The moon and stars were shielded by the dark clouds in the skies, pouring down its water onto the earth. The wind picked up, blowing my hoodie off of my head and falling to my neck. I tugged on my hood, trying to cover my head to get the least wet as possible. A light in the distant was shone, but was too far for my eye sight to make out what it was. My converse kicks pebbles along the street as they carry me toward the light. I hear a faint voice calling out to me, repeating my name.

“Amber.”

“Amber!”

“Amber wait!”

I tried to stop my feet from moving but they refused. I was no longer in control of my body, and it was freaking me out. The voice was familiar, but I couldn’t connect it to a face. I wasn’t in control of feet, so instead I tried to move my upper body, turn my neck at least, but I wouldn’t budge. I made it to the light source, realizing that it was only a street lamp. I stood under it, not making a move, as sounds of multiple pairs of feet was coming from different directions.

Next thing I knew, a large crowd formed, trapping me in the center of the small circle of light on the street. There were too many faces that were unknown to me. The faces were faded, and I couldn’t make them out correctly. Many different voices were heard, and flashes of light were everywhere, forcing me to shut my eyes. I cried out for help, falling down to my knees while cowering my face behind my eyes, finally gaining control of myself again.

I cried out for someone to get me out of this, suddenly feeling something run down my face, I wasn’t sure if it was the rain, or my tears. Another one streamed down my cheeks, landing on my lips. I tasted the salty liquid, realizing that it was indeed my own tears. The voice from earlier pushed its way through the other sounds around me, but I was too terrified to even look up.

I snapped awake to the sound of knocking on the door, which was Chasity. I looked around and found myself on the floor of the shower, hugging my legs closely to my chest.

“Amber, you alright?” Chasity asked me through the door.

“Yeah.” I called out to her as I picked myself up from the floor. A put my head under the running water, pushing my fingers through my wet hair, letting the cool water relax me, calm me down. Before I knew it I felt like myself again.

A burning sting on my neck snaps me out of my thoughts.

“OUCH!” I yelled, bringing my hand up to my neck. I hissed as I touched it.

“Sorry, sorry! I’m sorry!” Chasity quickly apologizes. I told her it’s alright before removing my hand from my neck, examining the damage on my neck. There was a noticeable red mark, tracing the outline of the straightener. Chasity jogs into the bathroom, frantically telling me how sorry she is.

“Amber, I swear this has never happened before. I am so sorry! Wait, wait, wait!” She runs back to grab her phone, before running back. I hear her mumbling profanities I hear her feet walking around the room.

“Chase, it’s alright, it happens.” I continue to tell her chuckling as she comes back from the bathroom, grabbing a paper towel that looks wet in one hand and my towel in the other. She hands the paper towel first, telling me to apply it on my neck. I did as I was told as she drapes the towel on my back, covering my neck and shoulders.

“I read online that this should help.” She says as she removes any wrinkles on the towel with her hands, before cautiously reaching for the straightener. As she grasps the straightener in her hand, her phone goes off with a ring tone that I have never heard before, causing me to laugh out loud.

“Oi, it’s your Irish leprechaun! Answer the phone, babe I’m callin’ ya! Come on, you know you want to! Why aren’t you answerin’ yet? Answer please!!” A strong Irish voice said. Niall’s message continued to play quite loudly. She rolled her eyes as her face flushes a light pink before answering, placing her phone between her shoulder and her ear, all while taking a strand of my hair and passing the straightener through it.

“Hello, Niall.” She sighed into the phone. I could faintly hear his accent, but no words could be heard perfectly.

“Yeah, I’m alright… Yes Niall, I am alright… Yes, of course I am sure! … With Amber… Yeah, but it’s not bad… What? … No, she isn’t in the hospital, silly… What? No... Pssh. ... Okay.. Maybe…” She pouted. I could tell he asked if it was her, before a roaring laughter came over the line, causing her to scrunch her face up from the loud noise pressed against her ear. “Hang on, I’m going to put you on speaker.” She says, while removing her phone that was wedged between her ear and shoulder, tapping on the screen before placing it on the table, his laughter filling the room, bringing a smile to my face. One of the many reasons why I love Niall, his laugh can shine a light on any dark day.

“Hey, Nialler!” I said while containing my laughter.

Niall’s POV:

“Hello, Amber. What did idiotic Chase do to ya this time?” I asked once my laughter seized.

“Nothing, she just burned my neck with a straightening iron.” She says casually. My jaw dropped slightly before a chuckle escaped my mouth.

"Wow." I shifted in my seat in the audience, crossing my legs as I bring my free hand that held a water bottle above to my face, taking a quick gulp of water. I put the cap on successfully with my free hand, closing it tightly before placing my arm above my head, letting it rest between my head and the wall behind me. I am currently at sound check but we are a taking a quick break before doing one last rehearsal on stage.

“Chasity, was this on purpose?” I asked, know already what the answer is.

“Of course not it was on accident, dipshit!!!” She raised her voice, a clatter was made their end, followed by a slight shriek and a faint ‘Sorry’.

“Alright, alright. Chasity, did you apologize?” I asked.

“She won’t stop apologizing, Niall!” I hear a clatter and a couple loud screams, followed by a soft ‘sorry’ from Chasity before Amber speaks again, full of aggravation. “Niall… Make her stop!” Amber groaned at the phone.

“I almost did it again by dropping it twice! But this one would have been on you, Horan!” Chasity started to blame me, even though I could practically tell that she is smiling her gorgeous smile as she calls out.

“Hey, I just called to see what was going on with you guys…” I defended myself. I smirked even though I know that they can’t see it.

“Well, we are getting ready for your show, happy?” She sasses me.

“Jumping with absolute happiness.” I said sarcastically.

“Well good. So how are things over there?” She asks me.

“Pretty fine, taking a small break before we do one more pre-run for the show. How much longer is it gonna take for you ladies to be finished ‘getting ready’?” I ask as I see Louis looking around, probably for me. I hear Chasity say something but I couldn’t hear because Louis was now stood in front of me, with his back to me.

“Niall!” He shouts.

“I’m right here, no need ta yell!” I shout from behind him. He jumps and turns to me, before taking the vacant seat next to me.

“Who are you talking to?” He asks me, not lowering his voice, if anything louder than normal.

“Niall? Do you need to go?” I hear Amber say.

“Uh, give me one second.” I say before pressing my phone to my chest tightly. “What is it Louis? Are we going back on already?” I ask him. He shakes his head at me, laying back slightly and knitting his fingers together on his lap.

“Nope. Not yet, at least. But you didn’t answer my question. Who are you talking to, Niall?” He asks, repeating himself, as he tries to pry the phone away from me, but failing to do so. I sigh.

“The girls. Happy?” I tell him. His eyes widen.

“Chasity and Amber??” He exclaims. I nod my head, smiling widely, and adding a few chuckles as well because his excitement.

“Yes, them.” I confirm. I was about to ask why he is getting excited but before I could ask him he ripped my phone out of my grasp, making a run down the aisle.

“Hello, Tommo here!!!” He shouts into the phone. I shake my head, now laughing hysterically, as I get up and out of the seats in the front row and chase after him.

“Oi! Get back here and give me my phone, you turd!” I call out to him, still laughing, soon gaining behind him.

“When you're ready come and get it, na na na na. Na na na na!” He shouts back to me, now going through the hallways to backstage. He runs past a door opening from the makeup room, where Lou, our hair stylist stepped out, not seeing Louis. Louis did see her though, as he runs to her and does a 360 in front of her, causing her to jump.

“Watch out!” He says, before sprinting down the hall. When I got to Lou, she caressed her head with her hand, looking down the hall at Louis who was laughing, either from his success at scaring Lou, or something that was said on the phone.

“What is up with that young man now…?” She grumbled. “You’re going to get your hair done first, Louis!!!” She calls out to him by cupping her mouth to act as a megaphone, hiding her smile before turning to me, silently asking for an explanation.

“He stole my phone when I was talkin’ to Chasity and Amber.” I explained to her, watching Louis turn another corner and sticking his tongue at me before disappearing. She looked at me puzzled.

“Who?” My eyes widen slightly as I remember not informing her on them.

“Amber is a friend, and Chasity is my, uh...” I said, scratching the back of my neck while shrugging my shoulders. Her face breaks with happiness.

“Who?” She says again, her smile widening even more.

“Well, we’re dating.” I say shyly.

“What is she like?” She asks, gripping my arm and I can’t help but laugh.

“She’s something.” I smile as I thought of her different sides, the one where I am on, or in other words her good side, how sweet and caring she will be, always around. Then there’s her other side, the bad side, and the time at the café came in, immediately bringing a frown to my face.

“Are you alright Niall?” She asks me, taking me out of my thoughts.

“Yeah.” I say, smiling at her.

“You were thinking about her weren’t you?” I nod once, rocking on my feet. “I have to meet her! Is she coming to the concert?” She asks, tugging at my forearm.

“Yeah, she is. That’s why I was calling, to make sure that she is coming, and how long it will be until she is here.” I pause for a moment, thinking about what I just said, and how that came out. “I didn’t mean to sound too stalkerish. That sounded a lot better in my head than out loud.” I laugh and she joins me.

“Alright, whatever you say, Nialler. Go get your phone back from that rascal, and tell her that I want to meet her! And make sure Louis knows he’s first in line.” She says, shooing me in the direction that Louis disappeared from.

“Okay. But, you might want to keep an eye on Harry and how he is around Amber… He is trying something, I know it.” I say smirking. She widens her eyes.

“Oh, good lord. Just make sure they both know that I want to properly meet them.” She says, with a tired smile before walking away in the opposite direction from me. I shake my head and turn the corner Louis went to, and found him sitting a couple feet down against the wall.

“Yeah, but honestly what you really have to do is—uh oh, Niall’s back! Running!” He says as he gets up and runs again, not looking ahead of him but at me.

Because of his clumsiness he crashed into Harry who came out of the bathroom, not paying attention to anything but his phone and fall to the floor, landing with a small thud. I ran towards them, watching my phone slide against the tiled floor a good few yards away from them. Harry and Louis groaned from their spot as I reached my phone and picked it up, checking for any scratches or cracks, luckily there were none. I heard loud laughter from the girls as I pressed it back to my ear.

“I got my phone back!!” I cheered happily as I made my way back to the two blokes on the floor, placing one foot on Louis’ arse, standing in a heroic pose.
