I Can't Hold Back

Chapter 15

I looked at myself naked in the mirror. My dark brown hair was now well past my breasts, and my cheeks seemed fuller and rounder. I brushed my fingers across them, feeling how soft my skin was ever since I started taking the prenatal vitamins. My hands then traveled down to my boobs which, if it all possible, were larger and even more perky. I cringed at how tender they were, and continued to trail my body until my hands reached my stomach. I rubbed around the small bump that had developed just twelve weeks earlier. I closed my eyes and smiled. In a few short months I’d be holding my actual child; I’d be a mother. This was nothing I ever expected of myself. Growing up so fast and starting a family – it was all too surreal. I had never been happier, and honestly, I never wanted it to end.
I opened my eyes when I felt a pair of arms wrap themselves around my own. He stared at my reflection and smiled. I turned my head to kiss him, the stubble on his chin tickling my lips.

“I love you so much,” he whispered as he turned me around to face him, holding my face in his hands. He was so happy that it made me even happier. Wherever we went, he would giddily tell anyone who was listening how he was going to be a father. It was all so precious, especially how he announced it to the world. It was simple yet perfect – an Instagram photo of a pregnancy book with the caption “better catch up on my reading!” Everyone was ecstatic, and we were already getting calls from the tabloids on who could be the first to get the baby photos. The media attention was quite shocking, but I wouldn’t change it. It came with the territory, and to me it was all worth it.

“I love you, too, Niall.” I grabbed his hands off my face and left the bathroom. “What time are we meeting him again? I asked as I struggled to put on a pair of shorts that fit just four days ago.

“In 20 minutes if at all possible,” he laughed as he stared at me from the bathroom doorway. I finally got the zipper closed and flipped off my boyfriend.

“Shut up! You’re not the one carrying a child,” I huffed as I felt my phone buzz. Checking the screen, I quickly turned it over and shoved it in my back pocket.

“Can you grab me my shoes so we can get this show on the road? My pink TOMS.” Niall did as he was told as I shot a text back to Dylan. I’d been secretly texting him ever since he contacted me that one day with Eleanor. It’s not that I wanted to lie to Niall; I just liked being able to talk to someone back home. The only reason I hid it from Niall was because well, given his Irish heritage, I could tell he might get a teensy bit jealous. There was nothing to be jealous of, of course, but I decided to play it safe. Niall emerged with my shoes in tow and I put them on.

“Ready!” I grabbed my purse and followed him out the door.

-----

“So we’re meeting him at the office first, and then he’s going to show us two houses that fit into what we are looking for,” Niall explained while he sped down the inter-state. With the baby coming, Niall decided we should start looking for a house together. I was happy to oblige, but I was going to miss being roomies with Naomi. I hadn’t seen her in a while because she was off in Mexico doing some Habitat for Humanity project with her family. Kim had been living with me instead just to make sure I didn’t have any dire emergencies in the middle of the night. It wasn’t all that necessary, seeing as how most of my nights were spent in Niall’s hotel room (we had this awkward trio going with Harry), but Kim’s lease was up on her own place so I didn’t mind having someone to look after my apartment. It felt a little fast to be moving in together with Niall, but, seeing as how I was baring his child, I figured this was the order things should go in.

My parents couldn’t agree more. Maybe it was how they were raised, but my father expected us to be married by now. He kept dropping subtle hints when my parents came to visit, much to my mother hushing him, but as soon as he got to know Niall he stopped. I think he realized how great a man Niall truly was, and all his fears soon left his mind. My mother was in love with Niall from the very beginning and I was afraid she was going to stow him away back on the plane to New York. We had this perfect little family going, and all we really needed was a home to put it all together.

The first two houses we saw were alright. One had awful carpet throughout it, including the master bathroom, so right away we could tell it was a no. The second was nice, but it just didn’t feel like “home” to me. After we talked to the realtor a bit more about what we wanted, a grin plastered onto his face and he drove us to the next location. We drove up to a beautiful neighborhood in Burbank called Magnolia Park. Cute little antique shops and family-owned restaurants lined the boulevard, and the buzz of the people was the perfect mix of city and suburbs.

As soon as we pulled up to the house I fell in love. It was a beautiful Mediterranean-style home with elegant greenery out front. The inside looked something out of Rome itself, with high ceilings and gorgeous hardwood floors. The kitchen was huge, and I could see myself baking with our little girl or making pizza with our little boy. The master bedroom was built for a king and queen, and I didn’t know what I was going to do with all the closet space. Once our tour was over, I looked at Niall, pure love in my eyes.

“Niall, this place is…”

“Perfect.” He finished my sentence for me and grabbed my hands. “I could see us building a family here, Charlie. I really do.” I bit my lip to stop the tears and we turned towards the realtor.

“We’ll take it,” Niall said, pulling out his checkbook.

“Great news! But I have to warn you, the owners aren’t willing to budge past $1.5 million.” I took a huge gulp. That was a lot of money to spend on our first home together, and I knew Niall wouldn’t let me pay a dime for it. Before I could protest, Niall grabbed my face.

“Anything for my princess.” He kissed my lips and we were off to negotiations.

----

Three long hours of negotiations later, Niall dropped me off back at my apartment so I could start packing my things. We would be moving in just two weeks because the buyers needed to haul ass across the country to move into their own new home. I kept thanking Niall in the car, but he kept shushing me. “It’s for us, babe. It’s what we need” was all he said and it took all of me to not jump his bones in the car. Whether it was the hormones or not, Niall was becoming ten times more attractive now that he knew he was becoming a father. It’s like he had this paternal instinct that was taking over him, and I wanted nothing more than to be all over him 24/7.

When I walked into my apartment, I noticed Kim’s smelly shoes in the kitchen. I picked them up and walked over to her bedroom.

“Kim! How many times do I have to tell you –” I stopped talking as soon as I opened the door. There was Zayn, completely naked, on-top of a completely naked Kim. My eyes grew huge and I quickly shut the door, trying to burn the picture of Zayn’s perfect ass out of my mind. “I-I’m sorry! Don’t mind me!” I ran into my room and shut the door. Turning on Imagine Dragons to drown out the sex noises, I started to pack up my things to move into Niall’s and my new home.

----

After most of my non-essentials were packed away, I left my room with my hands around my eyes – just in case. There was silence throughout the apartment and I saw Kim had left a note on the fridge. Awkward much? But I know you loved seeing my perfect tits. ;) Zayn and I will be back later, call if you need anything! I laughed and threw the note away.
A knock at the door startled me and I walked over to open it. Niall was standing outside, a huge smile on his face. Before I could say anything, he held two tickets in front of my face. I grabbed them to read them. It was two British Airways tickets to Dublin Airport, booked for this weekend. My mouth wide, I looked back up at my boyfriend, who could barely contain his excitement.

“Now you’re going to meet my family!” he laughed his infectious laugh and grabbed me so we could dance on my front porch. I had never been to Ireland before, but, if I was going alongside Niall, I knew nothing could possibly go wrong.
