Worlds Apart

Destiny

*2 days later*
Alayna’s POV:
“Harry, I wish you’d wake up already so I wouldn’t feel like this.” I held Harry’s lifeless hands and cried. I stared at him for hours, talked to him endlessly but all the answer I got was the beeping from the machines.

“You promised you’ll be alright. Why aren’t you?” I feel like his life is slowly slipping away from my hands. This misery I’m having is too much to bear. “You know I’ve been thinking, wouldn’t it be wonderful if we met on different circumstances?” I smiled through my tears.

“I mean, just imagine it. If I wasn’t so stubborn and have been nice to you at first, maybe all of these wouldn’t have happened.” I wiped my tears. It’s funny how I’ve been crying for days yet I still have tears to cry.

“Imagine if I hadn’t run away from you the first time I met you, we could have grabbed a cup of coffee together and known each other better that way. But Jade would have still been in the picture.” I touched his cheeks and was glad to feel the warmth of his body.

“Oh, I know. Imagine if we met in class and we were partnered by our professor. Then we meet up to do our project and slowly get to know each other. And then, I’ll slowly fall in love with your smile and maybe you’ll do the same. We’ll be a normal couple and we’ll have a normal love story.” I cried harder, imagining what life could have been if we did meet like that.

“Wouldn’t that be amazing? It’s like destiny itself made sure that we were in the same class and partnered up by our professor. Not like this, every time we find our way back to each other, fate made sure that we could never be with each other.” I felt lifeless myself; I felt like I was the one losing my life, not Harry.

“I can’t believe you held on to this.” I held the bracelet up and smiled. The medics say that he was still holding it with a tight grip besides being in a wreck and fighting for his life. “I promise to hold on to you just like you did with this. I can’t let you go, Harry.” I rested my head on the side of his bed and sighed.

“Just imagine…I’ll leave for Canada and you’ll run after me at the airport, just like in the movies. And then, we’ll promise to still keep in touch and then maybe, you’ll surprise me back home and I’ll hug you tight.” I looked at him, hoping I’ll see his eyes open and his bright smile beaming at me.

“Or maybe, we can make our own story; any story you want. Just please come back, Harry. I need you.”

Harry’s POV:
Just imagine…” Her voice was echoing around me. I’m trying to find her but it was too dark. “Why can’t I see anything? Alayna!” I shouted for her name but she was nowhere to be found; I closed my eyes and took a deep breath

“Do they really have to do this?” I opened my eyes and exhaled. “There you are.” She looked at me, dumbfounded. “I’m sorry?” I looked around and everything felt familiar. “The carwash.” I looked back at her but she was already making her way back to the halls.

“Wait!” I caught her arm and she spun around. “Can we grab some coffee? Uhm, I’m Harry by the way.” I held my arm out and I saw her smile. “Sure. I’m Alayna.” She shook it and I was bewildered by the sudden turn of events.

“So, you study here?” I was shocked how open she was already. “Yeah, I’m studying Sociology and Business.” She smiled so big that I did the same. “I miss this.” She looked at me with a questioning look on her face.

“Uhm, I mean the weather. The sun is out, it’s nice.” I took a deep breath, hoping she’ll buy my excuse. “Oh, yeah. I miss the sun too. And by the way, I’m in Business too. Could it be possible that we’re taking a class together?” It was weird how comfortable she was beside me; it doesn’t feel the same.

“Uhm, maybe. What do you want?” We reached the café and we both ordered. “So, may I ask, what were you doing there at the carwash event?” I looked up and I remembered the reason I was there. I closed my eyes, hoping a good reason might hit me; a reason that wouldn’t cause this to all fall apart.

“Okay, Harry and Alayna you’ll be presenting about the basic concepts of International Management.” I opened my eyes and I was in a different setting. I was in a classroom I’ve never been in before.

“Are you Harry?” I looked up and there she was with her beauty standing before me. “Uhm, yeah.” I stood up, took my bag and followed her. “I’m Alayna, by the way. Did you hear what Mr. Murray assigned us?” She spun around and I was speechless.

“Uhm…” She looked at me, waiting for an answer but I couldn’t speak. “International Management. He assigned that to us. When do you think we could start?” I snapped out of my daze and looked her in the eyes.

“Tonight?” I took a step towards her and it seemed that the time went fast forward. It was too fast for me to keep up but I remembered some of it. I remember being in my flat and we were preparing for our presentation. Her hair swooped down on her face and I brushed it off. I remember how her eyes twinkled and how her smile made my heart thump faster.

“Harry!” Suddenly, everything played at the right speed again and I found myself in the middle of the airport. “What are you doing here?” I hesitated to take another step forward so she walked towards me instead.

“Where are you going?” I asked without even knowing what was happening. “I need to go back home.” My heart dropped and I felt a tear drop from my eyes. “I promise, I’ll still call you and we can video chat. It’s like I never left.” I looked around and everything felt wrong; I was utterly confused as to what was happening.

“I’ll miss you, Harry.” She gave me a peck on the cheek and walked away. “Alayna, wait! You can’t go! I need you.” She smiled and I felt more baffled than ever. “I need you too, Harry. That’s why you need to go back.”

“What?!” I shouted as loud as I can but everything went black. “Alayna!” I spun around to look for my way back to her but it seems that I’m loss. “Go back, Harry. Go! I need you!” Her voice echoed again and everything seemed darker than before. “But how? I’m lost without you.”
