Worlds Apart

Mystery Girl

Alayna’s POV:
“Great, first day here and this is what I see.” I sighed as I walk into what seems like a commotion. What seems like an emergency from afar now looks like an act taken out from a circus.

I stopped walking just right in front of the cheering “lads”, as they call it here. “Do they really have to do this?” I raised my eyebrows, irritated with this event.

“Not a fan, huh?” I jumped, a little bit shocked. “Oh, sorry. I thought no one heard me over the loud cheering.” I moved to my right, away from whoever spoke. A little bit embarrassed, I looked for the unknown speaker.

“No, no. Actually, not a fan either.” I look startled at this tall, curly haired boy. I tried and examined him from head to toe but stopped when I noticed him smiling awkwardly. Clearly, he noticed me intensely observing him. I felt blood rushing to my cheeks. I tried to clear my throat but I was too taken back by this boy in front of me. He looks like someone taken out from a magazine. He had a blazer on, skinny jeans and suede shoes. After I cleared my throat I looked at his face and once again I was blown away by what I saw. I ---

“Harry.” He held his hand out. I was cut away from my thoughts and I, once again, cleared my throat. He must think I have a disease or something. “Yeah, not a fan of girls exposing themselves like this.” I said as I looked away. I bit my lip knowing that I was a bit rude.

“You know this is a charity carwash, right?” He took his hand back and put it in his pockets. “Thought you weren’t a fan as well?” I shuffled my feet, a little bit nervous. “Yeah, but well at least it’s for a good cause.” He said it with much confidence. “There are some other ways to help though. Degrading themselves like this is not the answer.”

I stepped back and made my way through the crowd. I was barely successful but I was able to reach for the door that led to the big halls of this university.

“Hey!” I heard his faint voice coming from the crowd. I decided to ignore it as I had embarrassed myself enough. I made a fast stride away from the doors to make sure he wouldn’t be able to catch up. Could he be actually studying here as well? I shook the thought of him away from my brain. The least that I need right now is a distraction for first, I would only be here for a semester and second, I need to actually do great here or else I would be in grave trouble with my mother.

Harry’s POV:
I made my way through the cheering and very loud crowd. “Every single spring.” I whispered and shook my head. It’s like people here haven’t seen the sun for ages. Every time the temperature goes up, people go crazy: shorts, bikinis, tank tops are definitely out of the closet. I scanned the girls sensually washing the car and saw Jade. There she was, smiling brightly at her adoring fans. This is why we never got along; she was too out there. I mean I’m “out there” as well but I guess she was too out there for my liking. She was too open to the public while I like keeping some of the details to myself.

“Do they really have to do this?” I took my attention away from the girls in front of me and looked at the girl standing by my right. She wasn’t clearly from here as she had a different accent. US? Canada? I don’t know but I know she’s not “English” in any way. Her beauty, though, I’m at lost for words.

“Not a fan, huh?” What?! Of all that I could say, that was the lamest. I was glad though that I had gotten her attention. The moment she looked at me, I felt like the wind blew her brown hair and she glowed like the ones in the movies.

“Oh, sorry. I thought no one heard me over the loud cheering.” Her voice even fits her. It wasn’t too loud, maybe because she felt embarrassed as I saw her blush. I was a little bit disappointed when she moved away from me.

“No, no. Actually, not a fan either.” Again, lame! I shook my head lightly at disappointment for my lack of “smoothness” as they say. As I looked up, I saw her staring at me. Her stares were drilling into my skull. I flashed my famous smile. Again, I was happy I had her full attention.

“Harry.” I held my hand out hoping she’d reach for it and I could catch her name. She took her eyes off mine and I think if anybody saw my face they would know I was a bit disappointed.

“Yeah, not a fan of girls exposing themselves like this.” I let a soft chuckle. She’s different from others. She wasn’t like the other girls that would drop everything to have the same attention as Jade and her friends are getting. I actually feel that she’s the opposite of Jade.

“You know this is a charity carwash, right?” Okay, now I just sound like a complete jerk. It sounded like I just dissed her opinion but I could assure anyone I wasn’t. Why am I this nervous around her? “Thought you weren’t a fan as well?” I don’t know how to answer this without actually taking my word back. If it was possible, I would have had punched myself already.

“Yeah, but well at least it’s for a good cause.” That was exactly Jade’s words every single time we had an argument about her doing this and every single time I hated it because I don’t know how to counter that. And I hate myself for actually using it as an excuse for backing up my stupid comment.

“There are some other ways to help though. Degrading themselves like this is not the answer.” I looked away from her lingering at every word she said. That was actually a good counter. “I ---” I looked back at her but she wasn’t there anymore. I turned my back and tried looking for her and saw her quickly making her way back inside the university halls. Her dark brunette hair flowing as she moved. “Hey!” I tried calling her out but I’m not sure if she heard me. Who was that girl? I felt like I needed to know who she is and today won’t be the last she’ll see of me.
