Spiderman

I’m Niall Horan. That name is no significance to you or to anyone really. Niall Horan is my identity. But it’s not who I am. At least not completely. However I’m getting ahead of myself. To know who I am you have to know a bit of background right? Okay good. Ahem. You can say I pretty much live an average life. Except for the fact that my aunt and uncle have taken it into their hands to raise and treat me as their own. At least since I was in grade 9. See they never had their own kids but made themselves wealthy. So when they offered to pay my way though one of the best private schools in the UK my parents sent me off from Mullingar, Ireland to Manchester, UK where I’ve been the past 5 years except in the summer when I head back. At first I didn’t see the appeal. I wa leaving all my friends for a school full of snobs, where I wear uniforms almost everyday. Not even good uniforms Tan slacks, white button down shirts. The only difference was shoes and if you wore a tie. The only good things I saw were the girls who look quite fit in the plaid skirts and button downs, and the science lab was amazing. So the first few weeks if my head wasn’t in the books I was in the lab no in between. The loner new kid minus one friend I managed to make whom I’ve had all four years now, Liam Payne. Me and him are like a brothers. That’s all you should know more information comes along the way.and of you don’t hear if than don’t worry this brings us up to when it all went from ordinary to unbelievable. About 3 months ago in my last class of the school day, Biology.
"so no one can tell me anything about photosynthesis?" My teacher Mr. Tellman asked the class room of less than enthusiastic students. My hand was already up like always but he knew I knew the answer. The rest of the class was always hesitant.
“ahh ms. Preston”
“photosynthesis is the simplest terms is the process of plants using sunlight and carbon dioxide to make food and energy” Ahh Brooke Preston. The girl from across the street. I had known her for a little longer than Liam but we aren’t exactly friends. She talked with me but nothing on a friendship level small talk school, current events, and weather. I mean why she would do more than that is questionable especially now she is Senior class representative, gymnastics team leader, extremely brilliant, popular and majorly out of my league. I mean she is gorgeous. With her long auburn hair, hazel eyes and naturally olive skin she is a masterpiece.
“thank you. Glad to see someone besides Mr. Horan does the reading”

the bell sounded and everyone shuffled from their seats
“Leave the proposals for your experiments on my desk. And Don’t forget your permission slips for tomorrow’s trip to the science center” my teacher shouted as everyone tried to shuffle out.
I grabbed my knapsack and pulled out my proposal. Putting it on the stack with the rest.
“what are you proposing like nuclear fission or something?”
I turned my head to see Brooke trailing behind as I walked out the door . “h-hi Brooke”
“sorry yeah hi is the way to start a conversation.” Her perfect smile practically shining.
No I’m just a complete imbecile when it comes to talking to girls. “My project is actually just finding the type of nut that has the highest protein levels and using that to create a protein bar that will effectively provide the most energy for those who eat it.”
“wow very scientific”
“what’s uh what’s your project?”
“which kind of flower do honey bees visit most. So profound huh?”
“extremely. Say if roses would attract more honey bees than any other flower. You could open windows .From that you can narrow it down to color of the rose. Of maybe if they have varied scents. In an essence optimizing what honey bees on honey farms should be surrounded by in order to yield high amounts of honey”
“I didn’t look at it like that. Mr. Science keeping me looking good ”
she doesn’t need help with that. “Must be my superpower.” I replied laughing like an idiot.
“glad to know you’ll use your powers for good and not evil”
“yeah we’ll I should be going go to get home and work on my project” I said slowly backing towards the door outside.
"You mind if I walk with you its a nice day and we are on the same street"
She wants me to walk her home. I mean we did that occasionally and it was only 2 blocks but that was because we would occasionally walk the same way. But this time she asked. Just be cool Horan. “Uh yeah sure”
"cool so do you walk like everyday? I know we’ve walked together before but that was like last year so I wasn’t sure if you got a car in between now and then" she asked as we pushed open the doors to outside it was a normal crisp fall day. Chilly but still nice.
“no I still walk everyday sometimes I bike.”
“at least your getting exercise”
“yep” I was quickly running out of things to say. She was so beautiful. Was I staring to much? I probably was. I swooshed my hair from my eyes and looked forward. And now it was deathly quiet. Okay. “So you uh looking into anywhere specific for university?”
“ummm I though about maybe going to the states because I was born there and all but Sheffield said they took a look at me so maybe there. What about you? Somewhere like Oxford?”
“Oxford is actually in the running.” Actually I was waiting to hear about my early admission to Oxford but who wants to look like more of a nerd.
“of course. You were always a genius since I’ve known you.”
“nahh not really”
“seriously you are the smartest guy I know. It’s refreshing talking to you and not the jocks I’m around all the time” this is the most we’ve talked about me like ever. And it was about to end as quickly as it starts.
“like the ones pulling up beside us” I pointed over to the car pulling to the curb
“huh?” She turned her head to the street where a car full of soccer players and other athletic people pulled up
“Brooke! Were all going to the brew to talk about the next assembly and we need our team captain you coming ?”
She looked at me and back at the car. Time to get ditched
“should probably go to that. Need a captains help in keeping things organized”
she smiled “um yeah I’ll see you tomorrow at the science trip thing”
“first things” I waved goodbye and kept walking as she squeezed into the car. It only took a few more minutes until I was at my house. Thankfully. I threw my bag down and scurried up to my room. First thing first was changing from my uniform. This stuff didn’t breathe even on a skinny guy like me. I looked in the mirror. Nearly no muscle tone. Skin and bones. As always. I threw my gray hoodie and some basketball shorts and sat down at desk behind my laptop.
“Niall are you hungry?” My aunt Lydia called up the stairs
“uh what’s cooking?”
“I have some of last nights beet soup left over”
yuck I hated it yesterday hate it today “no working on my project . Be down for dinner later”
“okay honey”
My Aunt Lydia was inventive with her cooking sometimes and it just didn’t pan out. I couldn’t tell her though. Nether could my uncle we just kind of grinned and bared it. I reached over into my desk drawer where I was keeping my snack stash. Besides the protein bars from my experiments that’s the only other food I had to eat.

"knock knock" My Uncle Ben, said as he entered my room.
"Hey dinner done?"
"Right here, brought you some pizza. You’re aunt burned her cheesy potato/Reuben sandwich perogies she had planned for dinner."
"Darn I was really excited about those" I looked up from my laptop and mounds of papers and took the plate of pizza slices.
He just chuckled “Yeah yeah smart-ass. How was school?”
"Just fine. Field trip tomorrow so no classes for a day" I added putting my eyes back on my screen while stuffing my face
"Basically out of one lab into another. How exciting can that be?"
"More than you think. anything can happen on a field trip"
