Zerraya

Chapter 2~Memory

"Oh my god." Perrie said, putting her hand over her mouth. "Ze-Zerraya? Is that you?" I gave them a look of confusion. I looked at Zayn.
"I'm sorry. I guess the name must have been pretty popular back then." He said. "You just look like our daughter." I knew it.
"Zayn. She's our daughter. She must be. Look at the eyes!" Perrie exclaimed. He looked at me. Then Perrie.
"Perrie, love, our daughter is in an orphanage." He said. My heart raced. She walked away, but Perrie looked at me one last time, before looking away. A flashback played in my mind. I saw Perrie and Zayn, crying as someone carried me away. At first, I didn't recognize them. But, it all soon came to me.
"Mum, wait!" I called. They stopped, and turned. Perrie's, or mum's, eyes grew wide. Tears filled my eyes. I stood up, and ran to them. "I only have a small memory. A memory of someone crying and screaming my name. And, it was you guys. You were screaming my name." They began to cry, bombarding me with hugs. But, I didn't care.
"We found you. Thank God, we found you!" Perrie said.
"But, our daughter is in an orphanage. It just can't be." He said.
"I am in an orphanage." I said, looking back at Teresa's Home for Girls. He looked at where I was looking. He choked out a cry.
"Zerraya. My precious Zerraya." He said. That's when flashes appeared everywhere. I screamed each time a light flashed before me. He clutched me, and they guided me back to the orphanage. People screamed questions at me. And flashes appeared everywhere. Zayn, or Dad, finally picked me up, and carried me inside. He slammed the door shut, locking it closed.
"Zerraya!" Mother Teresa yelled. I jumped. She ran in. "You've better not have-" She stopped when she saw my parents. "Oh, I'm so sorry! Zerraya, did you steal again?" She spat. I jumped. Still in shock from the flashes and bangs from outside.
"Steal?" Zayn asked, looking at me. I looked at the ground, ashamed.
"I am so sorry for her behavior. She has a tendency to try to be a rebel. How much did she steal?" She asked. It was only once. Or twice.
"Nothing. I-" Perrie started. Or three times.
"Please say she didn't steal from the fountain, did she?" She asked.
"No. We're her-" She said.
"I know, I know. She needs to be in a mental institution. Believe me, I know-" She said. Zayn stopped her.
"She does not belong in a mental ward!" He yelled. She stopped talking. "We're her parents. And we're here to take her away from you." She tensed.
"I remember you. I remember you all to well." She spat at them. I felt my muscles tighten. Perrie's grip on my should intensified. And I could feel her pulse rising through her palms. "You monsters! I was just saving your child from dying of starvation!" She yelled. The girls were on the top stairwell, eavesdropping.
"Then why do you starve us?!" I yelled. She stared in horror of my back talk. The girls had smiles plastered on their faces. She turned.
"You! All of you! Didn't I teach you that its not polite to eavesdrop?! You'll pay the piper tonight!" She yelled. I shook. She turned to me. "And you. You'll get the worst of it." She threatened, forgetting about my parents behind me.
"No you won't! We're calling the police!" Perrie yelled. Mother Teresa laughed.
"I have connections, sweetheart. They'd never believe a tramp like you." She said. I opened my mouth in protest, but Zayn, er, Dad, spoke up instead.
"Never call my wife a tramp again!" He guided me and Perrie out the door. I turned to look at Diana. Who had fear written all over her face. But, his grip was too hard to escape. I mouthed to her, I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry.
