There's Someone Always Watching

Tessa's POV

"Listen, Tessa," Liam said while he sat down in front of me. "Niall said your 'coronation' is coming up, yeah?" I nodded. "This is a big event where a man or woman of royalty becomes king or queen. In your case, you're going from princess to queen."

"But what about a king," I ask nervously. Liam gives me a knowing look, and I shut my eyes.

"Tessa, I don't mean to drop a bomb on you or anything," Liam said, "but if you don't pick someone to be your king soon...the Council will. And trust me, the people they pick are horrible. Awful people," he says. He shakes his head.

"Tell me why I can't go out of the castle grounds," I demanded, just I did at Niall.

"It's not a safe place for a princess like you. Remember? Louis and Zayn are still down there." I get up, placing my hands behind my back.

"Thank you, Liam," I say politely and leave the room.

Mystery POV

Creeping in the castle wasn't as hard as I expected. There was barely any guards, and even then, they weren't that bright. I got past them in a flash.

Smiling cockily, I continued with my venture. It's quite funny how, with a princess to so much ability, there was abandoned hallways and scarce protection from the realities of the outside world.

Well, of course. Why should the princess know that over half the village is starving? Or that a third of it has gotten sick?

No, she's got her own problems.

I roll my eyes at the thought. She is special though. She has those abilities--that I can take for granted. I smirk at my own thoughts.
