Northern Downpour

Chapter One

"Can you believe that Poli Sci 3 is full already?" My best friend whined. Her posture was slumped in the chair as she frisked her right wrist and clicked the mouse furiously. Her dyed red overgrown bangs fell onto her eyes. Lazily, she tried to huff them away. I began to laugh at this ordeal, watching her fuss with the laptop in front of her. "Why didn’t you tell me class registration started a week ago?" She cried out again, now pulling her hands away and fixing her hair. I pull out a bobby pin out of my own disaterly hair and motioned to chuck it ay her.
"Here, I’ll save your life." I joked as she turned. I tossed it as smoothly as I could and she barely caught it. She mouthed a ‘thank you’ before turning back to the monitor.
"Quinn," A distant voice came from the other room, "We reminded you everyday." The red head groaned pulling her left hand up to flip off the voice.
"Well now I’m going to have to take later classes because you guys didn’t help me." She complained. She looked at me with sad puppy eyes, but unluckily for her, I never melted against her begging.
"I even invited you to come over to my house to schedule our classes together." I shrugged at her, noticing my bangs already sliding towards my face.
"Really? I don’t even remember." She tried to play it dumb.
"You were still fucking Nathan, remember?" The voice was clearer now. We both turned to face the boy, leaning against the wall with a smug look in his face. Quinn groaned again and closed the laptop.
"Don’t remind me," she stretched, "He just texted me."
"What did he say?" The boy on the wall and I said in unison, barely even acknowledging it.
"The usual." Quinn stood up and walked over to the kitchen, maneuvering around the still closed boxes. " ‘I love you still. We can work it out. It’s all my fault’ blah blah." She tried to sound nonchalant when we all knew she would taken back if we weren’t already in a bad situation. She opened the fridge, and looked deeply, hoping that she could find something in the emptiness. "I didn’t like him that much anyway. He’s such a typical jock douche high schooler and honestly has no taste in clothing and music. He listens to Katy Perry, how lame."
"You listen to Katy Perry." The blond boy peeped up. I snapped my head staright to him, glaring at him to tell him to stop. Quinn had pulled a carton of milk out and pulled out an already used glass to pour it in .
"So? One fucking song doesn’t make me a fan." She said before pulling the glass to her lips and drinking it quickly, "Besides, you’re so in love with John Mayer, you might as well be gay, Trevor!" She said more excitedly than anything else. He rolled his eyes, and stepped into the tiny hallway that led to the rooms.
"I’m going to finish unpacking. You guys should start sometime before the semester ends." He said cooly. He wasn’t one for conformation. I sighed in agreement and slid off the giant box I was sitting on. By now, Quinn had refreshed herself and went back to the laptop to choose her fate. Hopefully living with these two will stay civil, enough, and not damage our friendships. Cheesey as that sounded, it was true. Three kids from high school decide to go off to a nice college out of town and live in an apartment together instead of suffering through dorms. This apartment wasn’t even that nice compated to the rest of the street. The front door opened to the living room, where we barely shoved a three seat sofa, a dingy televeision, a bookcase, and a rug. There on the opposite side was the eating area. A squished in table of four chairs and a fake red head pounding away on her new laptop. The eating area was seperated from the remodled kitchen as its counter tops were granite and the fridge, oven, and microwave was all new models, not to mention the wall was repainted throughout the place. The apartment was $800 per month, which wasn’t too bad considering the area and redone bathroom. We only had two bedrooms, though. One for Quinn and I and the other for Trevor, although he was aalreadt convinced of bringing another male in the place.
"I’m going to put my shit away." I told Quinn, she uh-huhed me as she looked at papers, still confused. I walked into the tiny hallways, about to turn when my eye caught Trevor’s room. Instead, I pulled myself to his room, looking at him sit on the ground, figuring out how to build an Ikea bedframe. He noticed me by the sound of the creeking door and turned slightly.
"If you help me, I’ll help you with yours." His white pearled teeth shown from his smile. His family was on the nicer side of our town, although our town was already "nice" compared to our neighbors. His mother was a former actress, now homemaker, and his dad was a leading engineer in a big state project. Although his family had a lot of cash to flaunt, Trevor never looked like the type to show off his wealth. He was the kind of guy who wore a nice relaxed flannel or band t-shirt, looser fitting skinny jeans a must. He had a sense of humor and listened to your opinions.
As a birthday gift to Trevor, his parents let us go on a shopping spree to IKEA to buy what we needed for the apartment. We ended up buying a lot more than we needed but his parents insisted on more when we got back. “Okay.” I agreed, knowing I would need it more than he would. I sat next to him, looking at the instructions to the contraption.
"You guys totally put that on backwards." Quinn pointed out after we showed her our masterpiece.
"How do you know?" I said defensively, "you didn’t help us." She stepped closer to it, letting her index finger glid on the bed frame.
"Look the part that’s going to face the wall has smoother edges, and a design." She pointed out, making my stomach drop. We worked hard on this frame to have it torn down by the same girl who can’t remember to register for her classes. "But I’m here to help!" Quinn shouted with glee, showing off again for finished her schedule. Trevor and I looked at each other, knowing we had two more beds to create. It was going to be a long night.
"Pizza should be here in thirty." I called out as I peeked into my room. Trevor and Quinn had began the wardrobe as both new beds were standing proudly still and decorated.
"Good, I’m starving and it’s already 11." Trevor whined, sounding like Quinn.
"Yeah, " She agreed in the same tone, "and the first day is tomorrow. I saw we quit for today and get ready for our new lives!" For the first time, Quinn was making sense. I yawned loudly as I finally felt drained.
"I’m going to go take a shower, give the pizza guy fourteen bucks, ok?" I told them as I pulled out a pair of shorts, a gray tank top, a towel, and my bathroom bag. They agreed and kept working on the funky wardrobe that already looked nicer in the picture than in person.

Notes

Ok so I wrote this and I really don’t like where I ended it but I think it’s ok for a first chapter. I have this whole fanfiction plotted out, kinda so all I have to do is actually write it. The tag for this series is “northern-downpour-fanfiction” also. Hopefully you guys like this and don’t think it’s too long. It’s about 1,250 words and I might keep the chapters roughly this long. What do you think? And most importantly, Louis and Harry will be in the next chapter!
