Not Cinderella

Obey

I felt the world crash around me. My dreams, my escape, miserably gone.
"I can't let this happen." Jay said. I looked at her. "Not today. Not tomorrow. Not the day after. Not ever. I won't let it." I looked at her.
"I can't stop it. Have you not met her?" I asked.
"Yes. I have. and she's a bi-" I placed my finger on her mouth. She stared at me.
"Don't say it." I motioned towards the door. Her eyes grew wide.
"Mo-om! Ella brought Jay over and she about called you 'b' word!" Kaila yelled from the stairs. She turned, as Dana walked down the stairs.
"Jay, you need to leave. And, when I say leave, I mean, never come back. Alright?" Dana asked. Jay stepped forward in defense.
"Ella, she's right. Just go." She looked at me, in shock. I shrugged. "See ya Monday."
"I hope." She walked away. She shoved past Dana, and ran up the steps.
"She is such a monster. No wonder your manners are so terrible." Dana said.
"Better than yours. Locking your adoptive daughter in her room without dinner sounds worse to me. I believe its called child neglect? People get arrested for neglect. All the time." She laughed.
"I'm better than your father. Would you like to go back to him?" The images of my father's hand aimed towards me rushed through my mind. I looked away. "I didn't think so. Now, go clean up. Your a mess. Just being in the same house with you gives me wrinkles." She scrunched her nose.
"I believe that's called, your old." I said. She scoffed.
"For that, you get no dinner for the rest of the week!" She yelled.
"Yeah. No dinner for one night. Think I can handle that." Her cheeks grew red.
"No dinner for two weeks!" She yelled.
"The boys are bound to notice that you don't feed your daughter, they're gonna call the police." I snapped.
"Oh, honey. I'm not your mother. Even though you, sickly, think I am. You're your father's daughter." She said.
"He is not my father." I spat back.
"Oh, sweetheart, he is as much your father as much as your his daughter." She smiled. "Oh, if you tell anyone, including your friend Jay, about this little chit-chat, I'll have your friend expelled." She laughed, and walked back upstairs. "Pretty roomy down here, don't you think? Maybe this can be your room." She said, walking upstairs.
