Fanfiction 101

How to comment:
To comment on a story, you're going to have to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page. Then, when you've realized that you're looking at other people's comments, scroll up just a little bit. You will see a box labeled COMMENTS. Click on the blank box and type out your message. Once done, hit submit once.

What you should comment:
Comment something you like about someone's story or something you wish would have or would like to have happen. Author's are interested in your opinion as the readers; they want to write something that people will be interested in. When you comment ideas or thought, it lets them know what you want to read about. It also shows that you are interested in a story. If you show no interest, an author loses encouragement to write.

What you SHOULD NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, comment:
DO NOT comment "update" on a story. Not only does a bug the fuck out of authors, it makes them want to not update. "Update" is the worst possible thing to comment, so DO NOT do this. Another thing you shouldn't comment is hate. If you don't like their story, don't read it. It's as simple as that. You don't have to be telling an author how to write their story.

*Edit 1/11/15: Some authors actually don't mind you just saying "update", but there are a lot of authors who do mind when you do. Also, it's okay to comment that you don't like something about a story as long as it's not written in a hateful manner. Try giving nice suggestions or saying something like, "Instead of this… maybe you should…" or something along those lines. If you rate someone's story poorly, at least have the decency to tell them why, but again, don't do it in a hateful way.
