Last One Standing

Chapter Twenty One

*Hannah’s POV*

We came out of the elevator and emerged from the doors. There weren’t many paps and I was so glad; the last thing that I needed was to embarrass myself in front of a bunch of people. A few would service just fine. Harry and I easily walked over to his car and he opened my door politely. I blushed lightly and climbed in. I couldn’t keep the smile off of my face as Harry walked around to the driver’s side of the car. He climbed in and I was surprised as he actually smiled and waved towards a few of the cameras.

Right now, it didn’t matter what was going on, because I was keeping myself busy; it was the plain moments that bothered me most. They gave me the time to think and reminisce. Thinking was going to kill me. When things were quiet, I had all the time in the world to let my mind come up with everything that had happened, but would I ever tell Harry that? Of course I wouldn’t.

He climbed in and put the car in drive. His hand easily gripped mine as we left the car park. I was honestly excited. Normally, Harry didn’t do things like this for my birthday. He always remembered it, but this was the first time that he basically could have been kidnapping me for all that I knew. I crossed my legs in front of me, on the seat, and placed his hand in my lap, playing with his fingers and tracing patterns in the palm of his hand. “Ugh!” I groaned.

“Do you ever stop complaining?” He smiled and took his eyes off of the road for half of a second to raise his eyebrows at me.

“You know that I don’t,” I said sarcastically.

“Well, what’s the problem?”

“This is taking too long. We’re never going to get there!”

“Then entertain yourself,” he winked at me and looked back towards the road. I bit my lip, unbuckling my seat belt. “What are you doing?”

“Just keep driving us to wherever we’re going.” A smile crossed my face as I leaned over and kissed his cheek. I pulled away slightly before relocating to Harry’s neck.

“I’m trying to drive…” He tried to sound uninterested, but I knew him too well.

“And I’m trying to entertain myself.” I leaned further over the center before brushing my lips softly against his collar bone that was just barely exposed by his white, button up shirt. It was really very fit on him. His breathing became unsteady after I gently slid my lips up his neck. I smiled before kissing his neck and I felt the car swerve. “Okay, I’m entertained.” I tried to hold in my laughter as I watched a very flustered Harry try to regain his content manor.

“That bit needs to stop, or I’m going to be the one complaining about us never getting there.” He smiled lustfully and winked at me. I giggled and he sped up, effectively shutting me up.

It wasn’t much longer and we pulled into the car park of a large building that had many windows. The whole place was covered in soft fairy lights. The windows were illuminated with the same lighting; you could tell that they hung from the walls on the inside of the building as well. Stepping out of the car, I stood and I didn’t care if my mouth was gaping open. Harry came over with a pouty look on his face.

“I was supposed to open your…” I walked passed him and onto the walk way, not paying attention to his words.

“What is this place? Why are we here, Harry? Harry, I’m not dressed for this. Harry this is,” I turned around to face him and was a lot closer than I thought because, without hesitation, he cupped my face and interrupted me with a sweet kiss.

“Beautiful,” he finished my sentence. “You look perfect, and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but with you, right here, right now.” He grabbed my hand and I walked along, unhesitant, processing how divine every aspect of this moment was. I was speechless. I was in a daze until I tuned back into Harry’s voice. I hadn’t noticed, but we had already stepped into the building. The only thing that was lighting the restaurant was the fairy lights. “Two for Styles, please.” The young looking waitress was just as wide eyed in awe at Harry as I was at the atmosphere around me. I breathed in deeply in disbelief and the sent of Italian filled my nose. There were only a few things on my list that had ever smelled better, Harry being one of them.

“Y-yes, r-right away,” she fumbled. Harry came close to her, smiling and whispered something in her ear. This is what really snapped me back into reality. He gestured slightly towards the center of the restaurant and her eyebrows rose before she gave me a slightly dirty look. “Alright,” she began to walk away as Harry gestured for me to follow her. I passed and he set his hand on my lower back, letting me know that he was there while I continued to look around and the measurably quiet restaurant. We walked further and further towards one door in the middle of total walls of glass windows. You couldn’t see through them because there were lights that seemed to be hung over the view. When we kept walking, I kept myself from getting excited; it would’ve sucked if I was wrong.

When she led us through the door, I allowed myself to be a tad bit excited. I looked back at Harry as he raised his eyebrows, pushing me the rest of the way through the door. A single table was set up in the middle of the room. There were trees scattered throughout the room and hundreds of lights hung from each branch, coming to hang just feet above our heads. It seemed like an outdoor atmosphere, but when you looked through the treetops, you could tell that the ceiling was glass. It was warm in this glass room. There were lights everywhere and it made it difficult to focus on a single thing at once. There was a large clock off to one side of the room. It looked like it belonged in New York’s Grand Central Station. It was just small enough to suit the room, but just large enough to be magnificent along with its surroundings.

As we made our way towards the table, our waitress was already headed the other way. She glared at me as I passed. In response, Harry put his arm around his waist and squeezed my side comfortingly. When we reached the table, there were no menus and a single rose was placed in the place that I assumed was my seat. There were two glasses of water and a basket of bread sticks. Harry pulled out a chair and I gladly took the seat. He kissed the top of my head before sitting himself. Harry smiled at me before he grabbed a bread stick out of the basket and began devouring it. I, on the other hand, stayed completely still. I stared up and look around to see the only inch of the dome that didn’t have fairy lights was the one stripe that fell around the door that we had come through. I tuned in again to hear Harry trying to get my attention.

“Are you even listening?” he said playfully.

“Sorry, but not really,” my eyes wandered away from the scenery and back to meet Harry’s emerald beauties. “What were you saying?”

“I was asking you if you were hungry. You’re just sitting there.” He relaxed in his chair and rested his elbows on the table.

“I just… I can’t believe this!” A small smile spread across my face as he laughed at my amazement. A cart came through the door and someone that was different than the waitress who I assumed was the chef, tossed some salad and put it in front of us. He set our plates in front of us and left us to eat.

Three courses later, and after some of the best food that I had ever tasted, the chef brought out a simple tray, which seemed plain compared to the large carts that had been coming out all night. He put a plate in front of both Harry and me. On the plate, he said, were Strawberry Trifles in a chocolate glass. He set down two wine glasses and poured wine into the glass, telling us the name and year in a very broken Italian accent. Before the chef left, he whispered something to Harry and left with his tray, full of dishes from our past course.

“What did he say to you,” I tried to eliminate my curiosity.

“Its eleven thirty, and we just have to leave by twelve.” He shrugged his shoulders and acted as if it was totally normal to stay at a restaurant for this long. Taking a small sip of his wine, he slowly stood and walked around the table. Harry held his hand out to me, “Can I have this dance?” He smiled and winked.

“But there’s no music.” I furrowed my eyebrows, slightly confused.

He tilted his head. “Has that ever really been a problem for me?” I chuckled at my own ignorance and happily took his hand. I rested my head in his neck and his hands wrapped around my waist, pulling us closer as we began to sway. I listened as he huskily hummed in my ear. It sent chills down my spine as we moved together. The music was low in his octave and let off a soothing feel. I listened as the tones rumbled deep in his chest:

People say we shouldn’t be together.
We’re too young to know about forever,
But I say that they don’t know what they’re talk, talk, talkin’ about.

‘Cuase this love is only getting stronger,
So I don’t wanna wait any longer.
I just wanna tell the world that you’re mine girl.
Oh

They don’t know about the things we do.
They don’t know about the ‘I love yous’,
But I bet you if they only knew,
They would just be jealous of us.
They don’t know about the up all nights.
They don’t know I’ve waited all my life,
Just to find a love that feels this right.

Baby they don’t know about,
They don’t know about us.

Just one touch and I was a believer.
Every kiss, it gets a little sweeter.
It’s getting better
Keeps getting better all the time girl.

They don’t know how special you are.
They don’t know what you’ve done to my heart.
They can say anything they want ‘cause they don’t know us.

They don’t know about us.

He stopped singing, but we continued to sway back and forth lightly. “Well, I was thinking that this might be better than your first prom night.” My face fell slightly in remembrance, but quickly smiled again as I thought of his sweetness. “I also knew that you might need the ‘lyrical pep talk’ if you will.” I pulled away, a sense of thanks in my expression.

“Don’t get too excited.” I paused, confusion running through my face. “I opened your laptop and you never logged out of your Twitter account.” Now his expression faltered. We stopped moving and he became very serious. “You have to know,” we began walking back towards the table, “you have to know that you mean the world to me. My fans may be protective, but they go way overboard sometimes. We’ve all gone through it; Dani and El have too. You can’t let commentary from the peanut gallery get to you.”

We were sitting now and he had pulled his chair over towards mine and had taken my hands in his. “If this is going to work, then we’re going to have to work together. Hell if things are going to be easy, but we’re strong enough to shove obstacles out of our way. If you hear anything that bothers you, don’t hide from me. I’m in this 100%, all the way, for the long haul. You can come to me with anything. I’m your friend, and if you’re all the way in too,” he paused, staring deeply into my eyes. I was mesmerized by the way that the light brought out the glint in his eyes, “then I want to take right this second, to know that I can call you my girlfriend.” I could feel the tears in my eyes. Even though we were already basically dating, it was nice to have a true title for it.

Not being able to find the strength to speak, I nodded my head yes as a few tears fell. Harry quickly cupped my face and brushed them away with his thumbs. He stood, instantly pulling me with him and kissed me deeply; it was sweet at the same time. He had seen me at my best and at my worst and was willing to take me with all of that trailing behind. I melted into the kiss as him arms engulfed me. When we broke away, he grabbed our wine glasses and handed me mine. Just as the old clock rang, announcing that midnight had come, Harry rang his glass against mine, “Cheers,” he smiled cheekily.

Notes

Alrighty everyone. I hope that you all are loving the story. Now, I've been asked to pick a name for my character which means I'll just go through the chapters and add her name in a few places, just to mention her. I need a choice for the name, I commented the options, and I need you guys to comment your votes. If people don't vote then I'm leaning towards Hannah Noel Glowik, just because her birthday is so close to Christmas and her middle name means Christmas.
Comment your feedback :)
