Stupid With Love

Slowly Falling

Niall P.O.V.

I guess I should have been prepared for what happened next. But can you ever be prepared? There was an array of magazines and newspapers spread out in front of me. Titles of stories practically jumped out at me off the pages.

Speculation that Niall is gay. Niam is no more? Remainder of One Direction Australian tour dates cancelled. What’s Niall’s big secret? Niall Horan punches Liam Payne on stage.

I couldn’t make myself read the actually articles, the titles were enough to tell me how horrible they would be. I’d checked the internet as soon as I got up this morning, the video of me punching Liam has already gotten over 6 million views since last night. My twitter mentions were being overloaded by crazed fans asking me anything and everything about what went on last night. I couldn’t tell them anything. My phone had continued to ring nonstop and now it is lying in three pieces on the other side of the room. Three knocks sounded lightly on my hotel room door.

Tap tap tap

“Who is it?” I yelled, from my sitting position.

“It’s Harry,” was yelled back through the door.

I pulled myself up and walked over to let Harry in, and sat back down in my original spot. Harry looked around the small living space before his eyes settled on the magazines spread out in front of me.

“Niall, what are you doing? You don’t need to be reading those, it won’t benefit you in any way,” Harry said to me, coming to sit beside me and collect the magazines, placing them in a pile under the table.

“I didn’t read them. I saw the article titles and the cashier gave me a dirty look as I bought them.” I replied.

“I tried calling,” he said.

I pointed my finger to the side of the room where my phone was laying in pieces on the floor. Harry’s eyes followed my finger and slightly widened.

“What happened?” He asked me, looking concerned.

“Too many people hassling me, I just wanted it to stop. It seems like an appropriate solution,” I told him simply, shrugging my shoulders.

“Niall,” Harry turned to face me, our knees hitting together as he moved closer towards me. “Can you tell me what happened?”

I thought about telling him, telling someone would be a huge weight off my shoulders. But, what would he say? He would be disgusted; he’s Harry the guy that gets all the girls. He wouldn’t want one of his best mates with a guy. And he’d hate Liam, and I don’t want that. Just because I hate Liam does not mean that anyone else should hate him because of me. So I simply said, “no.”

Harry nodded, accepting that I wasn’t ready. “Okay. Ah, I came over here to tell you that Simon wants to see us all in an hour, to talk about the ah, the incident.”

“Simon? But he’s in England.” I was confused.

“Oh right. He’ll be on Skype, we have to meet with Paul in the lobby and he’ll take us to speak with Simon and some of the other managers. So you should probably get changed and try to look presentable. We’ll be meeting in half an hour in the lobby.” He said.

I nodded, and he walked to the door, closing it behind him and walking back to his room.

I reluctantly removed myself from the couch and showered before putting on a pair of semi clean pants and a t-shirt. Afterwards applying a bandage to my left hand and downing two painkillers to control the throbbing pain. I should probably go to the hospital to get the hand checked. Later I think when I have time.

Half an hour later I took the elevator down to the lobby to meet the boys. We were only waiting on Zayn now, who I can imagine was busy doing is hair. As if on queue he ran out of the elevator, clearly out of breathe as he knew he was late. We all piled into the van out front that would take us and Paul to some building where we would have a conference with Simon. About 20minutes later we arrived and walked slowly into the building. Not one of us said a word, the boys gave each other mirroring worried looks and Liam and I completely ignored each other. I think that is best, it’s the easiest way to avoid another punch on.

We were led into a room which held a long wooden table which had a laptop sitting at one end of it, surrounded by 8 chairs. Paul walked in first and sat at a chair behind the laptop and motioned for the five of us to sit in the chairs in front of the laptop screen. Paul reached around to turn the screen on, and Simon was instantly in front of us, an angry scowl on his face. We didn’t say a word; we just sat and stared at him, while he stared back. Finally he spoke.

“So, does somebody want to explain what happened last night?”

No one said anything, nobody wanted to be the first to speak.

“Ask Liam,” I mumbled under my breath.

“What was that Niall?” Simon asked me. Obviously I didn’t say it quietly enough.

“I said –,“ I looked up at Simon. “-Ask Liam.”

I could feel every ones eyes on me, but I didn’t turn my head to look at them, I just kept staring at Simon. He didn’t seem pleased with my response.

“Well Liam, tell us all what happened then,” he addressed Liam, anger in his voice from my response.

Liam suddenly looked scared at being addressed so directly. “Well ah, you see, ah.”

“Anytime today, Liam.” Simon pressed.

“Look Simon, I don’t really know. We were all mucking around, just like we always do at our concerts, might I add, and Niall went crazy and punched me in the face. Twice. I don’t know why.” He looked over at me; a purple bruise had started to develop across his cheek. “I wish I did.”

Was he serious? Was he actually going to act like he had no idea what was going on, in front of the whole group. What a coward. I can not believe this! I was fuming. All eyes were on me again, I lifted my eyes to meet only Simon’s gaze.

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” I said, to no one in particular.

“What?” Simon questioned me.

I turned to face Liam; he met my gaze with hard eyes and a slight smirk.

“You’ve got to be kidding me. Liam, tell them. Tell them what happened! You know you deserved what I did; actually you deserved so much worse. That bruise on your cheek is a sign telling you that you can’t push me around. So you need to tell them. Otherwise you can forget everything.” I shouted at him.

He was stunned; he wasn’t expecting my sudden outburst. None of them were.

“Okay, I can see that there are some underlying issues here. How’s your hand feeling, Niall? Do you need to get it checked?” He asked me.

“I think I do.” I responded simply, still trying to recover from my outburst.

“And you Liam? How’s your cheek?” Simon asked him.

“I should get it checked.” He responded.

“Okay, well you guys go get your hand and cheek checked, Harry go with them so there is no fighting.” Simon continued. All five of us nodded. “Now boys, I can see that there are some major issues that are not being dealt with,” he looked back and forth between Liam and me, “and you need to deal with them starting now, because if there is one more incident like the one last night, whether it’s on stage or off the stage. I am cancelling this tour and sending you all back home.” He finished, firmly.

We all stared at him, mouths hanging open. None of us had expected him to say that. We expected him to be mad, but not mad enough to threaten to cancel our Australian tour.
“Now, get out of here. I don’t want to be called in to have this conversation again. Paul, take Harry, Liam and Niall to the hospital and get another driver to take Louis and Zayn back to the hotel.” He instructed.
~~~.~~~
So the trip to the hospital was interesting. Harry tried unsuccessfully to engage Liam and me into a conversation. The whole atmosphere surrounding us was tense, with unsaid words and feelings that refuse to be felt. My left hand was put into a cast, the doctor said I have breaks on at least two of the bones in my hand and it should heal up in about 6 weeks. Liam’s cheekbone isn’t broken. When I punched it, it caused a slight fracture but nothing that needed surgery and it should heal up in a few weeks. That made me angry, I was satisfied that I had broken his face, it’s a poor substitute for my broken heart, but it would do. And to find out I wasn’t broken, well I was angry.
We went back to the hotel, before our final Melbourne show tonight. I walked into my room, completely ignoring Harry and his invite to join him and Louis to play cards. I flopped down on my couch, completely forgetting about my hand, and landing on it, causing a shooting pain to go up my arm. I got up and took another 2 painkillers. They didn’t work. I walked over to the mini bar and grabbed a bottle of vodka, I first mixed it with a can of coke I found in the fridge, after a while it jut tasted like coke. There were knocks on the door.
“What?” I yelled.
“It’s time to go, Niall. We have rehearsals before the concert.” Louis said back through the door.
I grabbed a water bottle from the sink and tipped the rest of the vodka into it.
“Coming.” I shouted to Louis.
~~~.~~~
Rehearsals went quick, and so did the ‘water’ in my water bottle. We were about to go on stage when I started feeling woozy and stumbling as I walked.

“What’s up mate, you okay?” Harry asked me as he put a hand on my shoulder to stabilize me.

“Yeah, I’m fine. Just the painkillers making me drowsy.” I replied, surprised that I didn’t slur my words.

I carried my ‘water’ bottle on stage with me and hid it so the other boys wouldn’t drink from it and we began our concert. A little ways in I started to feel dizzy. Liam stayed right away from me, which I appreciated greatly. My stomach started to churn and I stumbled backwards. Regaining my balance quickly I kept singing. I made my way stumbling to the front of the stage to see some of the fans up close, but everything was blurry. I felt myself falling to the right side, off the stage, it felt slow as if it was a dream, but in reality I assume it was very fast, I felt my head smash into the ground and the sound of screams echoed in my ears as I finally passed out.

I don’t remember what happened after that, all I know is that I woke up in my hotel room with the worst headache ever. I opened my eyes and saw someone sitting on the side of my bed. They must have known I was awake because they turned to me and asked.

“How are you feeling?” Their voice rattled through my head, like a train off its rails.

“Not so loud.” My voice was scratchy, and I pressed my hands to my head hoping to make the sounds go away.

A slow chuckle sounded from beside me. They handed me a glass of water which I was so thankful for in that moment.

“Why don’t you get some rest and I’ll see you in the morning. We have a lot of things to discuss.” They said, getting up off my bed and walking out of my bedroom. I didn’t hear a door shut, but I was already half asleep before they walked out of my room, so I assumed they had gone back to their own hotel room.
