Friendship Never Ends

Chapter 6

Stephanie’s P.O.V.
Throughout the past 3 months, Rachel and I could not miss any episode of The X-Factor. They didn’t stream it to the US, so we had to find out from the official X-Factor website (they posted the full videos of the shows a couple of days after the original air date). Our boys were doing so well and gaining so many fans already. We just couldn’t believe how fast everything took off.
Summer vacation had begun about a month ago. It was now July and the heat was unbearable. Our air conditioning broke in our house, so my mum let me stay with Rachel for a few days while they fixed it up. I was ecstatic, but considering we’ve basically been living at each other’s houses all summer so far, it didn’t really matter that my mum made the announcement. But it just felt more official when she did.
“They’ve uploaded it!” Rachel screamed from the kitchen. She was sitting at the table with her laptop open, stalking the official X-Factor page and refreshing it until they posted the video. We knew now when exactly they posted the video, every Saturday around 2pm our time (8pm their time). You could say we were obsessed…
“Bring it in here!” I yelled from the living room. I began setting up our usual pile of blankets and pillows to lie on while we watched the next episode. Not even two seconds later, Rachel appeared in the doorway, set down the laptop on the coffee table, and helped me finish. I got comfortable while Rachel set the video up. It started to play and she sat back on the pile.
It was Bootcamp Week and we watched some pretty hilarious dancing. I gotta say, I don’t think some of these people know what dancing is. Half of the people were not bad, actually. They’re here for singing, anyways. There were a few contestants that just completely blew my mind. They were amazing.
“Ah! Harry’s up next!” I shouted.
“Holy crap, Niall’s in his group, too!” Rachel exclaimed. Both of us propped up our elbows and literally glued our eyes to the screen. They weren’t bad, but they weren’t the best. They actually were kind of funny to watch.
Then the results came, and we were not ready to hear them. They were both off of the show.
“What…” I said in disappointment.
“But…” Rachel protested.
I rolled backwards and reached for a pillow, hugging it tightly.
“Hey, at least they made it this far. I’d say that’s a pretty good achievement,” Rachel suggested.
“Yeah,” I mumbled, burying my face in the pillow. Rachel’s right, though, this is something they’ll never forget.
“Hey, I’m gonna go grab a soda, do you want one?” Rachel asked, and I heard her get up. I peeked up from the pillow and laid my head on it.
“Sure,” I sighed. She exited the room and I fell back again into the pile. I realized the video was still playing and pulled my head up a little bit to see what they called an “X-tra Factor.” My spirits lifted a little bit when I saw this brunette haired guy being talked to by Simon. Apparently, he didn’t go onstage because he “couldn’t dance” and he didn’t think anyone would notice, but Simon did and went backstage and found him. His name was Zain, I think. I giggled a little bit at how innocent he was. Cute innocent, but still pretty funny.
Rachel came back with two sodas and set them on the table.
“What are you laughing at?” she asked, sitting back down by me.
“Oh, this guy thought he couldn’t dance, so he snuck backstage and didn’t go on at all, thinking that no one would notice, but Simon did and found him,” I repeated, smiling a little bit.
“Wow,” Rachel laughed, taking a sip of her soda.
We watched the rest of the video in silence, even though there wasn’t much of the video left. She shut the laptop and finished her soda, entering the kitchen again to throw the can away.
“What would you like to do now?” she asked when she got back.
“I don’t know, something fun?” I replied.
“Hmm…” she thought. “Ok, I know it’s hot outside, but I really want to jump on the trampoline with the hose.”
“OMG, yes!” I shouted, instantly happy.
“I’ve been wanting to all summer, and the water will keep us cool,” she explained.
“Let’s go!” I exclaimed, and ran up to her bedroom to pull on my swim suit. Since I come here a lot, I basically have my own little closet inside of her closet, so my swim suit was all ready for me.
We got ready and ran out of the house as fast as we could. I’ll admit, jumping on the trampoline with the hose took my mind off of the X-Factor for a while. Rachel sprayed the hose in my face a few times (she kept playing it off as an “accident,” but we all know it wasn’t) and I had to keep defending myself against her.
Soon, it was dinnertime and we ate a delightful pasta made by Rachel’s mum. It was delicious, and I had my plate gone in the first few minutes.
After dinner, Rachel and I watched a few movies before falling asleep in our big pile of blankets. Even though the movies took my mind off of Harry and the X-Factor, my brain decided to bring it back up again. I hate when your mind does that. Right as you’re about to fall asleep, it reminds you of a lot of stuff you don’t remember when you’re awake. I eventually did drift off to sleep, and I welcomed it with a passion.
Rachel’s P.O.V.
I was having a nightmare. Literally. The movie we watched before I fell asleep was so scary that I almost peed my pants. And the fact that I couldn’t get Niall and the X-Factor out of my head caused him to be in the nightmare, too. I awoke sweating and layered in the blankets. The digital clock by the stereo read: 3:26am. Next to me, Stephanie was sound asleep, not even stirring or anything. Lucky.
I laid my head back on the pillow and tried to think of a happy thought. It’s hard to think of something happy after you’ve had a traumatic nightmare. I was almost back to sleep when my iPod lit up and the notification sound went off. I sighed, rolled over, and grabbed it off of the table. Of course, it was from Facebook. And from Niall…?
Niall: I don’t know if you’ve heard, but here’s the video in case you haven’t :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atUajbKX0K8
I sat up and clicked the link, confused. It opened to a Youtube page and the video began. I sat up when I saw both Harry and Niall being called with another couple of guys and girls. They headed onto the stage, arms around each other. The girls separated themselves from the guys and each group stood in a line. I noticed the brunette haired kid that “couldn’t dance” in the midst of the line of guys. The judges were sitting by their table and greeted everyone.
“We think that you are too talented to let go,” one of the judges said. “So we are going to have 2 different groups. You’re all through.”
My heart raced as both groups jumped up and down and cried tears of joy. My eyes began tearing up and I paused the video. I reached over and shoved Stephanie a few times before she woke up.
“What…” she groaned.
“Get up, you have to watch this!” I screamed.
“What is so important that you have to show me at 3 in the morning?” she asked, sitting up. I rewound the video and placed my iPod in the middle of us so both of us could see. I pressed play and watched Stephanie’s expression change from being tired to wide-eyed to staring at me in surprise and happiness.
The video ended and we were literally jumping up and down on the blankets. I calmed down and sat back in the pile as Stephanie did the same.
“This is unbelievable,” I began.
“Our friends,” she continued.
“From across the ocean,” I said.
“Are now competing together,” she added.
“In a band,” I finished.
“How did this happen?!” she exclaimed.
“This is unreal,” I repeated.
“Hey, they made it through,” Steph pointed out. Turning my iPod off, I set it back on the table and fell back into the pile, smiling.
“Yeah,” I dreamily replied. “Goodnight, Steph.” I heard her giggle before lying back into the pile, too.
“Goodnight,” she responded, and my eyes heavily closed themselves into a deep sleep.
